Just got words that Reflection just made a detour to Key West to drop off a patient who needed medical assistance, before heading to Bimini! She was at Key West area around 11:15pm Thursday. The MarineTraffic app shows the detour track.

On our second cruise, we were on the NCL Dreamward. We were supposed to go to Cancun but do to bad weather they we headed to Nassau. On the way to Nassau we came across a group of cuban refugees on a bunch of inter tubes tied together. The crew rescued the people and then proceeded to sink their inter tubes. This way no other ship would stop thinking there was people to be rescued. Once they were on board the crew took the people to the hospital on board to check them out. It was interesting watching the crew in action.

We are cruisers and glad to see the Captain of the trimaran was saved. You asked what happens to his boat….well, sadly it stays afloat and becomes a hazard on the ocean! Sometimes, if the owner has the funds, he will try to rescue the boat before a salvaging group find it and claim it as their own. The same thing for his dinghy. We are very surprised he abandoned ship; it’s difficult to tell what happened for him to make the distress call. This is surely a nightmare for any of us and our floating homes! Feel free to ask questions!! You did a great job capturing the footage and telling the story.

Ok, so that’s not a catamaran. It’s a trimaran. And it makes absolutely no sense as to why he’s abandoning ship. Unless it’s on fire, he is safer to be in that boat than in that dinghy. Trimarans (and catamarans) are almost unsinkable. They don’t have the weight of a keel so worst case is it sinks to water level. Glad he’s ok - I’d love to hear the whole story.
