Welcome to my channel. I am a guy from Cheshire, UK, doing guitar gear demos and anything else guitar related for a bit of fun. I also tinker with electronics and building guitars, and I will post occasional reviews on products I have experienced. I'm not paid or endorsed by anyone to do this, and as such, any opinions that I may express are personal and not to be taken as an unbiased reflection on the product I am demoing or reviewing. Enjoy!

The missing piece of my wet / dry rig …
Переглядів 639День тому
I’ve been very kindly gifted a keyboard amplifier by a very good friend of mine and it has sparked the question, “Is this the missing piece of my rig?” I have been getting into direct-in guitar sounds recently, so I wonder if I pair this with a valve amp, will it create tone nirvana? This is a lengthy deep-dive video, so strap yourself in! #guitar #guitaramp #electricguitaramp #guitarist

How to Respray a Guitar: Squier Stratocaster Project - Part Two
I have a vox straight 6 pedal and the difference and quality Is HUGE when used in front of a solid state amp. Both clean and distorted, specially the dynamics are pushed much wider and the ability to clean up the sound by rolling off the volume knob. The attack Is also sharper.
By that do you mean that it’s better into a solid state or valve amp?
Exactly. Wants vs. needs. Claiming “rip-off” when it comes to a “want” is either clickbait or a supreme expression of entitlement, nothing more.
Great comparison and video
Thanks 🙏🏻
Capitalist society or not- a discussion around fair prices is 100% legit. It’s especially important that consumers actually know what they’re paying for. The workings of pedals are not that well known to consumers. Is a pedal expensive because of high level craftmansship and components, or is it expensive just because of a cool logotype? Questioning overprized products is part of the capitalist idea of competition.
TY for the great review...definitely asking for this for X-Mas. Cheers, Malcolm
I’m glad it was useful! 🙌🏻👍
My friend plays in a band that mainly performs in pubs. He plays a Harley Benton PRS kit guitar which he made himself. It sounds great and, really, do the punters in a pub know or care whether his guitar is a HB or a PRS? No.
Absolutely 🙌🏻
Good to see someone with some f'n sense. Cordy is a dimwit. My only complaint is stop saying "Capitalist Society"... it's a free market, simply put.
Sounds real nice
Thanks! It has really surprised me! 🤔🙌🏻
Great video, Ashley! 🤘🏻🎸 Appreciate the deep dive.
Hey man great video! i just bought it brand new to run a bass amp and a guitar amp together but the phase switch is not done much as the bottom from the bass is still missing. I think its not a proper phase reverse switch. It's more like an eq
Interesting! 🧐
Great pedal, great video, thank you!
Thanks! 🙏🏻
Marshall amp
Good guess … but no … 🤔
Nice I use a Chuck Berry amp 🤫
Very 'woolly'
should have removed the old lacquer
Man i dare to say even those alnico are muddy. Cheers good vid
Thanks!
🔥 Love the look! Any work needed on the frets?
Nope - all good 👍 🙌🏻
Excellent video on the topic. What blew me away aside from Josh's professionalism was how ride John really was with the video. And then he deleted the original and the follow up videos after Josh replied. I enjoyed John's videos but he essentially tried to sweep it under the rug like he didn't try to deal a blow to JHS and people's livelihoods
Thanks. Yeh, it’s wild! The fact that it was all done under the guise of curiosity is really damaging!
Very cool approach to music using the looper.
☝🏾Great ,..useful advice for these types of Loopers! Use it in Stereo for backing Chord work! Record your lines, counter melodies & various parts on separate takes with recording on Left or Right inputs but have the unit in Stereo mode. Play a REAL Bass or Synth Bass loud enough to balance /mix well w/Drum Track later! Layer in each take volume level -wise to have “depth” & dynamics in your Loop Sessions! (This is Killer for live gigging!) You’ll enjoy the playback jam sessions immensely👍🏾😁! Try this for whatever Genre!!..and have a great , fun time with your Donner Looper or whichever you have similar..🤘🏾😎🎛️🎸✨
This IS my favorite 100.00 pedal and has been since C19 or so. HF.
This is an early Silver Series Squier Strat probably from 1991 or 1992. These were meant to be a step up in quality after Fender had almost trashed the brand in Korea in the late 80s. If you want a truly great Japanese Squier get a JV- or SQ-Series model, which were made about ten years earlier.
Noted! Thanks 🙌🏻
great video, cheers for the detailed demo!
Glad it was helpful! 🙌🏻
Thanks for that, almost bought and Origin. Not now.....going for one of these!
🙌🏻
I need a guitar pedal. I build enough to then sell them. Some people buy my pedals😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤ they need.
Good review straight forward and honest
Thanks! 🙌🏻
Great playing and demonstration. I have 6 tube amps ranging from 5w to 100, and half of them are marshalls. nothing puts a smile on my face like the class 5 does. it's such a rude little thing and it sounds huge
It’s certainly got a unique character, and when you get the sweet spot, it’s just tasty! 🙌🏻
Nice Under The Hood Look
Thanks! 🙌🏻
You got elf ears, I love it.
Best comment I’ve ever had! 😂🙌🏻
The pedal market is fairly decentralized, if you don't wanna spend $$$ on JHS, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives.
I’ve got an “E5” series 1985 Squier Strat “contemporary “ model. White, no pickguard, rear loaded, standard trem, HSS with 3 mini toggles for the pickups instead of a 5-way switch. I bought it in Aug or Sept of 1986. When I bought it, it was discontinued, store was getting rid of it. Paid $313 with hard case. Still play it, though I’ve customized it over the years. The stock pickups were weak, replaced with Seymour Duncans. It took on water in Hurricane Katrina and had to be rewired at which point I added a 3way switch for neck and middle, and left one toggle for the middle pickup. Still plays great, though it isn’t what I’d call a great “gigging” guitar. Stock tuners are a little finicky. But it works for me.
Thank you thank you thank you, exactly.
Excellent point, one I was screaming at both John Nathan Cordry and Josh Scott out loud while watching their respective videos. I really like both those guys quite a lot, the friction is middilingly disappointing but still very civil all around.
I picked up a 1983 MIJ Squier strat when they came out, and it is a fantastic guitar. I have gigged with it for over 40 years and have never had to make any mods or adjustments, other than basic maintenance. I've played a lot of strats over the years and mine holds up to any of the ones I've played. One surprising aspect is how well it stays in tune even whe using the tremolo. Fabulous craftsmanship.
Amazing! 🙌🏻 What series / factory was it? (If you know!)
The 3 series is very affordable
Josh's prices are actually pretty good.
Exactly!
Funny, I was just thinking this very same thing this afternoon. I had watched both John's and JHS' videos yesterday and so it was on my mind today. And I came to a similar conclusion. Gas companies rip us off. Insurance companies. The price of insulin can be a rip off. Those are all things we need to "survive". We need gas to get to work to make a living. Some people need insulin to even live. Like you said. No one "needs" a guitar pedal. Plus...no one is forcing people to buy the JHS pedals. There are pedals on Amazon made in China for $14. If you don't want to pay over $150 for a guitar pedal, there are options. So to say that JHS is ripping people off is pretty ludacris. Not to mention. JHS are made in the USA, using some USA made components. That immediately drives up the cost. Also, why didn't John pick on companies like Boss? Their pedals are made in China, Japan and Taiwan. The Boss OD-3 is almost $100.
Absolutely 👍 It’s also a really nasty choice of words to describe what seems like a good bunch of people being creative and educating people along the way!
Cordy was not asking an innocent question like a lot of people are inferring, he was casting aspersions on pedal producers and JHS in particular straight up. All he done was to show his total ignorance on how business is conducted, the cost involved and the effort that goes into running such a concern, the way Josh broke it done definitely educated Cordy and a lot of other clueless guitar players.
I completely agree 👍
Based on Cordy's response video, I still don't think he really understands much of the concept.
@@SparksofHell Yeah, half arsed apology
Get over it! both are narks, I'll translate it for you, -it's just expressing opinions that are conflicted, both are fellow commercially driven yaptuber's and therefore steaming untrustworthy turds 100%. -end of report! -your never going to get truth when dealing with steaming turds, =both are blind and deaf to this fact by sheer nature of their narcissism.
I don't think it's a rip off. I can buy pedals for fifteen dollars to thousands. For me to build a pedal it costs about the same as jhs to build.
What the dude still didn't understand in his apology was, what is intellectual property worth? It is worth what others value it at... IE how much you're willing to pay for their creation. How much to produce a Picasso? said nobody, ever.
Spot f-ing on, my friend! So much whining on the Internet about things people choose to buy/watch/listen.
🙌🏻
YAAAAAASSSSS!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! I was screaming at both of their videos this concept. He can sell his pedals for whatever the hell he wants to. You are free to buy or not buy whatever you choose.
🙌🏻
What you’re saying makes sense, but you’re reducing this to “luxury black box” and “how much do you play for luxury black box” This is about informing people about what’s in the black box. If for example you found out your JHS pedal was a rehousing of a $20 chinese fuzz, you’d want to know. The “rip off” factor lies in the idea that what you’re buying could potentially be had at a much much lower price. If you buy JHS assuming you’re getting top quality for analog products and it turns out it’s chinese junk at $4 a pop, it reduces the value prop of the pedal. This is useful knowledge to a consumer.
I agree that finding out if what’s in the box is what you were expecting is worth looking at (essential in fact!). However, the original video looks at what is inside and it is as is described by JHS when they discuss their pedals. The quality isn’t in question. What happens in the original video is some rough maths around the ‘value’ of the components and then some more rough maths around JHS profits resulting in questioning if they are too expensive for what they are. Furthermore, quality is not a fixed concept - in the pedal world, higher prices are commanded by products that are perceived to have a ‘special sauce’ that is completely subjective. Because of this, I believe that suggestion that people are being ripped off for functioning products is just daft. They function as is described and the market decides their value. If John wishes to investigate unscrupulous pedal builders rehousing cheap imported PCBs, I’ll be right with him! 🙌🏻
It gave you something to talk about didn't it? This is what was not needed. But hey, maybe now you'll get a million subscribers. After all, we're cheap.
The JHS 3 Series are an absolute bargain, and quality to boot. The reverbs are beyond phenomenal. 30 years ago, I was paying more than what they cost today for secondhand pedals, and I'm not even allowing for inflation, I"m talking dollar-for-dollar I was paying way more for pedals 30 years ago than what a JHS 3 Series costs today, and their pedals are better.
That’s an excellent point! Have we all just come to expect more for our money? I’ve probably had around 10 pedals I’ve been seriously tempted by made by JHS. They are clearly a great company and I love the resurrection work they do! No doubt I will relent and get one in the future! The 3 Series pedals seem great - the fuzz is very tempting! 🙌🏻
@@ashleyguitarandpedalsMy favorite JHS pedal on my board is the Unicorn V2 Univibe. I found a used one for $165 (better that $220). If you want a genuine feeling Univibe with tap tempo and options for speed control via expression pedal I highly recommend that route. Endless modulation goodness. Can't go wrong with a low depth slow 'vibe on almost anything.
I have to admit, that’s been high on my list for a while - univibe is something my rig is sorely lacking 🤦🏻♂️
💯 💯 💯
It’s my favorite pedal, and I have about 30. It was worth the extra $350 compared to the original price.
The little commies will never understand the free market.
I don’t think Cordy was accusing him of being “immoral” He was saying here’s two pedals that look exactly alike on the inside with the same enclosures…etc one is cheaper and the other expensive. So when you see that as a consumer which would raise any eyebrow is a valid question. DemonFx makes clones of a lot of the expensive pedals with almost similar artwork and the cost is 50% less than a JHS pedal.
That wasn’t what I got from the original video - his question was sparked by the ‘cost price’ of the JHS pedal and asking if we are being ripped off because it appears that JHS make a lot of profit. If there is a suggestion that the price should therefore be lower, I think that is a moral argument and the subtext of what he is saying is that if they are making huge profits, they shouldn’t be. I accept that is just my interpretation of the original video though and am open to your way of seeing it 😊 I don’t think that his video was created out of malice!
