Fish Creek Overlook Part 2 of 3 - Looking for a Descent Route
Переглядів 64 години тому
In my first video I hiked the circumference of the Butte at the Fish Creek Overlook Recreation Area. As i was hiking around the perimeter I was looking for a safe way down to Fish Creek. The spot that caught my eye was located on the northwest side of the butte. This video chronicles my choices. i investigated two routes and made my decision. However, time, temperature, and stamina prevented me...
Fish Creek Scenic Walkway

Apache Trail Highway 88 Has been closed between MM222 - MM229. The dirt road had suffered destruction from the Woodbury Fire and subsequent monsoon rain. That all happened in 2019. I decided to take a drive up there for a look/see. I knew that the road would be closed, but I wanted to find a way to hike down to the Fish Creek Wash. From there I would hike towards the bridge where most of the re...
Explore Spur Road off FR1356

The high temperatures here in Apache Junction, AZ has hindered my hiking opportunities, UNTIL TODAY! Last night a storm front cooling the temperature to the high 70's. I left home at 5:30 A.M. with temperatures in the high 80's. I wanted to explore a dirt road northeast of the Wolverine Trailhead in the Goldfield Mts. I drove FR10 and FR1356 one mile to a staging area where a hiking trail #308 ...

My last hike was June 24, 2024 - Ghost Fire near Lost Dutchman State Park. Summer heat in AZ had curtailed hiking, until today, July 27, 2024. I wanted to scout the dirt road access to the Dome Mt. Trail. I began my road walk at 6:00 A.M. It took me an hour and a half to hike 2.10 miles to the staging area campsite and the beginning of the trail. Rising temperatures and fatigue convinced me to ...
Rock House Fire - Day After
Переглядів 288Місяць тому
A quarter of a mile up the street where I live, there is an abandoned "Rock House" that was once a tourist attraction many years ago. I had driven past often. The landscaping had been ignored allowing desert plants to clutter the area. A fire broke out early last night. I do not know what caused the fire. I walked down there this morning. This is what I saw! I'M SORRY! I mis-named the video as ...
LD Crossover North

This is NOT a hiking video. It's about ADOT reworking the highway accessing our senior citizen development. For months our crossover exit had been closed, only allowing a right turn upon leaving the park. I was so excited that I accidentally activated my windshield wipers. Thank you ADOT for freeing us from "right-turn syndrome"!

There are four tourist attractions within a 2-mile stretch of the Apache Trail Highway 88; Superstition Museum with the Elvis Chapel, Goldfield Ghost Town, The Mining Camp, and the Lost Dutchman State Park. A fire broke out and consumed aaproximately 100 acres. Fortunately, the Tonto National Forest and Superstation Fire Fighters engineered a 100% containment with no damage to those venues and ...

The weather is getting much warmer, which interferes with the time and location that I can hike. I am resurrecting a hike from years ago. I have accelerated the speed and added some different instrumentals. I added a couple of photos. My camera batteries failure caused me to not show the entire out and back hike. I think we went about three miles. Thanks for watching! Happy Trails!

Five years ago, from today, the Woodbury Fire ignited in the Superstition Wilderness at the Woodbury Trailhead north of Queen Valley, AZ. The fire went on for many days covering an area over 130,000 acres. Daily updates were given, and meetings were held. Hiking trails and access roads were closed one by one as the fire spread On June 14, 2019, t to the Tortilla Trailhead at MM 221 on the AZ Hw...
Monocle Arch Hike - Goldfield Mts.

As promised in my video of May 23rd this video will show the short trail leading up to the Monocle Arch. Before hiking a trail, it is necessary to determine where the trail begins. The first part of this video explains how I came to the trails beginning. As you will see the trail follows a series of switchbacks to reach the arch 350 feet above the wash. Once at the arch on the top of the hill, ...

This is how I got there. I drove 7 miles to the Dome Mountain Trailhead at the southern end of the Goldfield Mountains. Then I hiked on Forest Road and a spur road to get to a sandy wash. Bypassing a rocky hill on the west side I continued north through the sandy wash. The video ends with me looking for a trail that would lead me northeast to the Monocle Arch. Stay tuned for the next video that...

Not bad Phil and my condolences on your loss of family as all of mine are long gone...as for that loop im not finding it but I've looked and looked some how I've missed it. I watch all of your videos in the superstitions that I come across....I am just concerned as I have not hikes these trails other than second water to Boulder canyon and then Boulder canyon to the north terminus of calvary trail 239 but I want to go from north dutchmans trail to Marsh Valley I can't go the way I know because I will have a pack donkey and there is no way he will be able do deal with Boulder canyon some of those crossings are too much hell we are both up there in age so just two questions one there is a trail that goes through what is labeled as bull pass that goes through on the north side of blacktop Mesa but there is a steep section is that a good route over to marsh valley in Labarge canyon or would trail that goes south of black top Mesa over there to marsh valley a better route and is there or have you ever seen water at white rock spring g because if I hit labarge canyon and head south to Charlebois spring it's about a mile and a half to the south when the calvary trail is north the way I want to go...I can't let my hiking buddy go without water please advise...I hope to meet you one day I'm dying to say Mr. Livingston I presume
