Caravan Travel Australia - Our Reality Travels (Trailer)
Have had mine for 2 years.. Same setup as this on a 200 series .. Trust me these are fantastic.. Highly recommend..
Yep can't go wrong. So simple which means you actually use the boat. Cheers, ORT
Perfect, very informative, thank you
First of all incredible review in real world, realistic conditions. 3 years later how's it holding up? foam sun damaged / degraded? Any significant chucks taken out by hooks / sticks?
Hey mate, thanks for the feedback - no one wants to see boats tested on a glassout. They are surprisingly durable. I've got some good chunks from beach launching collisions with the trailer, but apart from that its still good. I do an annual coat of tyre shine on the top side which they recommend to stop it from drying out too much and I also store undercover where ever possible. I would say if you took care of them 10years service life no worries. Cheers, ORT
Hi, thanks for that great overview. I just miss to see where the hooks for lifting the engine using a crane are. We on sail boats need to move the engine from the dinghy to the pulpit which is quite heigh, therefore 43kg definitely need a crane and we use it quite often
i purchased one in the middle of covid for a 14 foot vrib. best purchase i have ever made
I did a major modification along the same lines on my six metre glass boat using extruded polystyrene and glassing over using epoxy resin. I doubled the width of the chine flat and added around 100 kg of additional buoyancy to each side. I got at least a 15 % increase in WOT speed due to the additional chine flat width. I use this boat out wide in up to 2 metre swell and she has become a very capable boat. I also added a ballast tank up from for when motoring into a head sea and pump it out for the following sea.
Sounds like a weapon of a boat. Amazing how much of a difference this type of thing makes. Cheers, ORT
How do you go with rear axle load, I have a similar setup & im way over rear axle weight with a arb 4015 kg gvm upgrade
Great stuff thanks for the review, you've made my mind
You wont regret it, it still makes me smile everytime I'm out on the water. Cheers, ORT
Very nicely done! Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you! Hopefully it helps a few people out. Cheers, ORT
Leash is a good idea
Great engineering just gotta keep the boat clean from bait before retreiving it haha
Haha for sure. A quick spray out with the on board water in the cruiser definitely helps keep the flys away. Cheers, ORT
Your complaints are the color and taking an extra pull or 2 starting? Come on
Sure are. Where I live the colour gets super hot out in the sun and shows the water stains really badly. I can deal with the two pulls to start, but its no where near as easy as the old two strokes. OK for me, but for more elderly people looking at buying them it could be a deal breaker. Cheers, ORT.
Big bonus with a side loader is you can rinse it out while it sits upside-down on the rails. Let it drip dry, and up it goes.
Not an issue with the rear loader either, I normally pull the bow up off the ground, hose the bottom of the hull, then pull it up until it hits pivot point and hose out the rest from the inside - can leave it there as long as you like, move it around to different angles. Cheers, ORT.
How do you find traveling with your boat motor on the back? Does it get trashed or do you have a cover for it?
No issue at all, I do have a good quality cover for it and also put rags into the air intake holes to stop and dust ingress, but overall no issue. Cheers, ORT.
Have you ever done a video on weights? Generators are handy when there's no sun or overcast
No vids on weights sorry. Could be handy, but to be honest we have never needed one. I would be much more inclined to spend more $$$ on lithium setup rather than carry a genny. DCDC from the car to top up the batteries if you got desperate with no sun. Cheers, ORT.
First pull charges up the capacitor. Normal. Second pull then provides ecm with enough energy to fire up system. Normal.
Roger that, thanks mate. Makes sense but definitely not as easy as the old two strokes. Otherwise, these things are amazing. Cheers, ORT.
Hiya, do you know what sizes do the winches come in please?
I'm not sure sorry, best to give Cam at Custom Boat Loaders a call and he will be able to give you some guidance. Cheers, ORT
Great video. Simple and step by step
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback. Cheers, ORT
Perfect spot except for all the pricks with generators running all day, ruined the experience
Yeh mate, no need ey. Cheers, ORT.
What an informative video. Thanks! I wonder how this would move a 12' aluminum hull Zodiac with my son and me.
Thanks mate. I would think it would do it perfectly. The hull I have it on is a 12ft with a boat collar and with two up its a very nice match. Cheers, ORT.
Wat year model is the cruiser guys 🇦🇺🙏
2011, cheers ORT

Hey guys what's the model of caravan
Jayco Silverline Outback, cheers ORT
electric start is the way to go
Hey bro thanks for the great info, does the tinny have much effect when driving on the highway, iam tossing up putting one on
Surprisingly with the heavier suspension in the car it still drives really well. Of course you can feel it on there, but compared to other vehicles I've had in the past (prados/hilux etc) the roof load doest impact the cruiser badly. I've never had it on there without the gvm upgrade though - standard springs might be a different story. Cheers, ORT.
What a bummer that it cannot start from the first p u l l would you recommend electric start instead?
Depends what you want it for. For me, I have a rooftop tinny so dont want to be carrying a battery etc. I think if you could do electric start it would make it easier. Cheers, ORT.
Owe 6 hp 4 stroke, start is always easy, i guess it has to do with efi
Thank you
How long is your boat?
3.7mtr (12ft in the old scale). Cheers, ORT.
Love the concept but how can i have one fitted on the south coast n s w
Love the concept of the product but how can i have one fitted on the south coast n s w
Not sure mate, give Kapten Boat Collars a call, they might have a fitter down there. Cheers, ORT.
A nice big outboard foil would make it even more fuel efficient
How much does this cost? In USD.
No idea mate, best contact your local Tohatsu dealer. Was about 4k AUD. Cheers, ORT
I have a 20hp Tohatsu 2020 I purposely bought one with electric start and electric tilt, due to physical limitations. Excellent motor. No regrets whatsoever.
Yes they would be great with electric start and tilt. For my purposes I need to keep weight down so they don't suit. Cheers, ORT
The nicest set up so far. What GVM upgrade that you have on the cruiser? Thinking about going 3999 but not sure if it can handle a boat on top.
3800 in this one. Very tight on capacities with a decent size van (we don't tow a 3.5t van). 4t should be fine depending what other gear you want in the car (if you start going rear bar, long rang tanks, drawers etc you will be pushing it). Make sure you check rear axel weights as well as this can catch people out. Cheers, ORT.
Hey mate have you had to tighten up the screws on the collar yet?
Yeh mate they recommend after a month. I nip them up every few months, but they dont really come that loose. Cheers, ORT.
What’s a kilo?
😂
😂
2.2 lbs
Excellent review of your tinnie and the great benefits of fitting the "collar" to the tinnie. I'm just beginning to learn as much as l can about all thing's relating to boating. Being a complete novice and wanting to get back into fishing but this time around, using a boat and of course for pleasure/recreation. Don't know yet whether to get a tinnie or a fibreglass boat. I will seek the advice of others as to which type would be best for my intended use. I want a boat for lakes/dams, rivers and coastal bay fishing only, I have no desire at all to venture out into "open waters". New subscriber, to your channel. Regards, Brian.
Hi Brian, thanks for the feedback! I wish you all the best in getting back on the water. If you don't have any intention of hitting anything too rough then its hard to go past the tinnies. Lighter, harder to damage, often cheaper and easier to maintain. Cheers, ORT.
Okay thanks for this on the screws, have you tried the butterfly ones that open out when going into wall or these don't work mainly for weight distribution, do you use a glue when doing them or just self tapper.
Just the self tappers worked fine on mine. Theres not much weight going on it. I wouldn't use butterfly ones, I'd think you would have issues with them vibrating loose. No glue, screws were sufficient. Cheers.
Guys what is the best screw to add towel rail or other things to the van sides in your opinion.
Stainless self tapper does the trick. Just make sure you're not near any internal wires or pipes! Cheers, ORT
Thanks for the video and showing the loader in such detail. Would it be possible to let me know the total length of the loader and if the rear overhang is based on the vehicle to clear it when the boat gets lowered and lifted up?
Hi mate, best to give Cam at custom boat loaders a call and he will be able to give you some guidance, I'm not sure of the specific measurements off hand and not with the car at the moment. Don't want to give you bad advice. Cheers.
Do you know if I could get this in the states?
I'm sure if you were willing to pay the freight they would send one over for you. Can't imagine it would be a cheap exercise. Cheers, ORT
very informative. I'd say the boat collar is definitely worth the investment
Absolutely is. Out on the boat again today it they never cease to amaze me how good they are. Cheers, ORT
Gday mate. Much noise created from boat / rack etc when on highway or corrugations? Also…. Is it easy to completely remove the boat loader from the roof if I wanted to re install a different roof rack for a trip not requiring the boat? Cheers in advance and thanks for the vid mate! Courts
Hey Courts, I think the noise level will depend on vehicle. The 200 has pretty good noise suppression and I can't say I've ever notice anything from it. If you don't put a twist in your tie down straps they will humm, but otherwise no noise for me. To take it off is relatively easy, two bolts on each mount - but its heavy and you will either need two people or a hoist system of some sort if you want to do it single handed. I tend to just leave it on and use it as a roofrack when I need the extra space as it doesn't annoy me being on there. Cheers, ORT.
You mentioned tired and cranky after long drive and tempers frayed when backing in. To eliminate that, think about this. You're about done in One or both need a toilet stop. You're hanging out for a cuppa. STOP Even if you're only 10 minutes away, stop refresh and you will cruise it in when you arrive at your destination.
Too true, after all thats what it's all about. Safe travels, ORT.
Hey mate i thought i saw the dart now you have makocraft? Any reason
Hey mate, spot on. So we travelled somewhere very remote and it was too costly to send the Dart back so I had to part ways. When I went to buy another there was too long of a lead time so I decided on a second hand mako and built again. Very similar credentials to the dart HDW. Cheers, ORT
@@ourrealitytravels cheers for the reply. Great vids mate could you do a proper run down one time of your boat loader and what the other one was you mentioned
@@blakee121 Hey mate, check out the channel we recently posted a full review of the boat loader, cheers
The website doesn't show a y62 patrol so i'm thinking this isn't suitable with the rear door coming aways up!?
I don't think a y62 has roof rating high enough to put any decent size boat on it unfortunately mate. Best to give them a call and ask - what Cam doesn't know about roof toppers aint worth knowing. Cheers, ORT
where about are you. The water looks amazing 🤩
Cocos Keeling Islands mate - its incredible. Cheers ORT
Now they are made in China and have been for awhile.
Not sure where you have got that info from mate, the little tohatsu's are 100% Japanese. I believe the higher hp Tohatsu's (60hp and up) are made by Honda - which do build some in China. Cheers, ORT.
Amazing set up! Would love to know what the custom boat loader set you back!! Cheers
Thanks! Super easy to use and built to last which is what I look for. Cost will vary depending on the setup - best to give Cam a call and they can give you some guidance. Cheers, ORT
