The BMW F series is a family of parallel-twin engine dual-sport motorcycles manufactured in Berlin, Germany by BMW Motorrad. Launched in 2008, the range comprises the F650GS, F700GS, F800GS, and F800GSA. In 2012, the F700GS replaced the discontinued F650GS, and in 2013, the F800GSA was introduced with a 24-litre (5.3 imp gal; 6.3 US gal) fuel tank and a larger front fairing and screen. The F800GT and F800S both have belt drive.
Models
Contrary to industry convention, each model's "number" does not refer to the engine capacity. Instead, each bike in the F-series range uses essentially the same 798 cc (48.7 cu in) engine, but with different power outputs and equipment levels. The parallel-twin engine was first used in the F800S,[4] and is also used in the F800GT, F800R and F800ST, although these bikes are tuned to deliver peak power at a different RPM from the GS models. The GS models have longer suspension travel, needed for offroad use.[5]
Although all bikes use the same basic engine, the F800 produces 85 hp (63 kW), which is 10 hp (7.5 kW) more power than the F700 and 14 hp (10 kW) more than the discontinued F650. Engines on both the F800 and F700 can be modified to deliver a reduced power output of 35 kW (47 hp) for European riders on restricted Category A2 licences.[6]
The F800 and F700 are fitted with twin brake discs on the front while the F650 was fitted with one disc.[5] Both bikes had anti-lock brakes (ABS), which were optional on the F800 before 2013 models and all years of the F650.
Previously, only the F650 had the option of lowered suspension,[7] which was not available on F800 models up to 2012. From 2013, both the F800 and F700 can be specified with a low seat and/or lowered suspension, the combination of which reduces seat height to 820-850 mm (32-33 in) (F800) or 765-790 mm (30.1-31.1 in) (F700), and makes the bikes suitable for shorter riders.
Special editions

Includes a larger 24 litre fuel tank, reinforced rear sub-frame.
F800GS Trophy (2012)
Desert Blue and Alpine White paintwork, Black and Rally Grey seat, aluminium engine guard plate and hand protectors with large spoilers.[8]

You need to use the GS911 to activate the ABS pump when you flush the brakes.
You really are afraid. Sad.
What colour green is that? It looks amazing.
Nice bike...
Don't ever say you have a firearm in a National Park even if you do, dummy
Very helpful, thank you for sharing!
Read your manual. There is a park position for wipers. For there, you can tilt them up.
You nailed it! No way I’m out there without a gun .
Thank you. I ask, would you rather be with or without? Not a question. 🍻
Xb
Cheers.
If that is the craziest shit you've seen, and you freaked out like that over nothing, then the places I go would absolutley terrify you. Get a grip.
1 hour at best with a capable vehicle for assistance with a dude topless in 50 degree weather doing jumping jacks and sprinting around like Carl Lewis on supreme meth bender was a little unnerving. The dude flicked me off and stared at me with a lifeless look when I said hello. I have lived in Oakland and St. Louis so I am not easily rattled, and my choice of words was a little dramatic, but I was uncomfortable none the less. He got arrested btw. Not sure where you go, but I am proud of you for going.
Well, that does add a little more context. Sorry if I seemed like an ass. Oakland is rough, only place i ever got caught in the middle of a shootout as an innocent bystander.😄 Keep up the adventures and have fun.
We didn't get a good look at the guy but I trust your judgment about dude . He probably thought that you were the FBI or something . Meth heads do insane things because they lose control of so many senses etc . Most everyone I see out in the backcountry stops and chats or at least waves hello .
Thank you. Dude was topless in 50 degree weather doing jumping jacks and sprinting around like Carl Lewis at 6000 ft in golf shorts and no socks. He never acknowledge me and he did get arrested by the NPS. They requested a copy of the video.
I thought it was going to be like one of those horror movies where he ends up being in front of you somehow.
From far away it looked like he blocked in on a one way in one way out road. If you watch the part where I drive by him his left hand is clenched in a fist and he right hand is tweaking. He clearly was coming at me.
Beautiful ride, nice bike😁
Thank you. The F 850 GS not adventure is the best true off road BMW bike. I am working on a new 900 GS in the next year or so. The R 1250 GSA is a fantastic machine, but a pig off road. The F 850 is not as nice touring on pavement, but when the pavement ends it rips.
By myself or not, I carry every time I leave my house. There's just too many crazy people out there. Safe travels.
Open carrying on motorcycle accomplishes two things. People don't tailgate you and don't yell or honk at you when lane filtering at stoplight. It also provides a sense of security in the backcountry whether it is a grizzly bear or a meth head on sick one from Boise, ID in NV.
The kind of situational assessment that occurs when a Californian finally gets a firearm…
I am not a Californian. I am from St. Louis and have been living in Montana. I am sure you would have a cup of tea and do jumping jacks at 6000 feet with this guy on a sick one. He got arrested by the NPS btw. Thank you.
Glad you carry and glad you’re not Californian lol. Always keep one, but be very judicious or you’ll be worse off than the one that was the problem. I’ve been in worse in isolated spots. Just don’t be too jumpy…✌️
that's some _hills have eyes_ sh*t
Thank you. The HyperView doesn't do it justice to get a close up. Dude was on a sick one. Topless in 50 degrees, doing jumping jacks, sprinting up hills at 6000 feet like Jerry Rice, in golf shorts with no socks.
Half the people commenting here that the bike rider is paranoid then go on to say they 'carry' everywhere they go. You are a nation of gun-slinging weirdos to rest of us, America. Chill the fuck out. You scare the shit out of the rest of us.
Have had to deal with them in state parks not far from my house... Never thought I would have to call the cops on a camper in a state park. Turns out, they were previously banned and in their illegally too... Of course they were... And yeah, always have an equalizer of some sort, a good one. Had to add this, I will not let them ruin a good ride... See Avatar, you can imagine what that draws out at night...
Thank you. I went back the next weekend and accomplished my goal of hiking down to the Big Bell mine. Check out the video. I didn't want to wake up at 3am or not to this guy.
This is why I never go solo, never know what could of happened
Thank you. I go solo most of the time. Adds to the excitement of the adventure. I crashed today in Death Valley and couldn't pick my bike up. Ibex Mine video posting soon. Two ADV riders rode past me on another trail and didn't see me waiving. I dug a hole for the front tire to drop in and got the bike back upright. I need to get a SOS watch cause this type of behavior might get me one day. I am ok with it.
Remember no matter where you go there you are.
Dude got arrested. I didn't, so there I am.
That dude was whacked out end of story - no debate. You certainly riled up the anti gun crowd - their comments are almost as amusing as they are incoherent.
What did he have in his hand? Wow dude looked sketchy as hell. Hope you strapped my man. I had similar on night north of the border, packed up and got my bike back on the pavement
Thank you. I carry a Springfield XDM 10 MM. I love the give him a chance comments. It is called situational awareness recognizing a dude on sick one. He got arrested btw.
@@motorradmikegrossheim definitely and especially the way he was driving his truck and running at random stuff. Stay safe
I never leave the pavement without a firearm. I have had several strange encounters by weidos out in the desert and the woods.
Thank you. It is an odd combination of people in the backcountry. People exploring to explore and people getting away to misbehave. Got to recognize the difference really quick sometimes.
@@motorradmikegrossheim Last summer I did the continental divide trail according to Kevin GPS maps in my 4x4. From the Canadian border to the Mexican border. I encountered numerous people on the trip, some from foreign lands. Everyone was kind and friendly. We were loaded for bear(literally😜) but handed out water instead.
While it definitely appears to the rest of us like you were being overly paranoid, none of us were there with you and we have no idea what you were feeling. Regardless of how it looks to us, If you had bad vibes or were uncomfortable with the situation, then you did the right thing in getting out of the situation. What was the guy arrested for?
They wouldn't tell me, but the NPS asked for a copy of the video. I didn't push because it was obvious to me that he had to have something in his Tahoe that wasn't legal being either paraphernalia or drugs.
@@motorradmikegrossheim Thank you for the reply and the updated information.
SO a Guy with no shirt totally Ruins your trip...yeah you should just stay home
I will next time. Thanks for the advice.
@@motorradmikegrossheim your welcome!
You are a morron. Stay home. People like you get people killed.
Dude if you're so scared while you're carrying a gun just stay home sell your bike and be a pussy for the rest of your life Jesus Christ there was nothing threatening about that guy.....😮
Smart move 👍👍
Thank you. I didn't want to wake up or not at 3 am to this dude. Situational awareness is the one of the most important things I a have learned over the years. I have lived in STL, Oakland, Downtown SF, and the mountains of MT. Got to be prepared for everything at all times.
Thank a democrat!!!
I am 44 and one of the biggest changes in society during my lifetime is bath tube gin. AKA meth. It destroys people's brain permanently to the point of no recovery.
Why did I just waste nearly 9 minutes of my life watching you be paranoid about a rando tweaker?!!!
Not sure, but thank you for the watch time.
@@motorradmikegrossheim WEAK!!!
I didn't see any aggressive behavior here..did I miss something ? that said..carrying always gives a sense of security
Watch the drive by in his Tahoe when I am standing behind my bike and when I drive by him. He didn't acknowledge my waves or when I said hello. When I rode by him look at his left hand, clenched in a first, and his right hand tweaking while coming at me.
Soft as cotton. Go back to the Valley dude.
Get a mic man. All you hear is shhhhsh man shhhhsh bro"
Will do. I agree. It was windy AF. Thank you.
Why I own a doul sport. At the end of the day. You can get to safety. Be safe.
Thank you. Dual sports are "average at everything", but can take you anywhere. The Toyota 4Runner or Jeep Gladiator of motorcycles.
(1)-That truck is way too nice for your average meth-head. (2)-He went by you twice without engaging. (3)-He made a rational decision not to go down that road. Still, better strapped than sorry.
It was a 10 year old Tahoe? The rims and tires are worth more than the ride.
There a cheaper way to reset the service light? 400 bucks for the tool come on? :) Dealer also won't do it for free, crazy
They tool was under $300, I think. I was just referencing the average cost. Mine was the cheapest. USB wired with no WIFI. It is really helpful to run an ECU scan. Tells you way more than the dashboard error light.
The guy in the SUV is like "I'm only trying to take dump and I can't even do that is peace out here".
He defiantly wasn't concerned about eating or shitting.
I truly dont think that dude would had stuck around if he only knew how crazy you are....
Thank you. You call it crazy. I call it situational awareness. Dude got arrested btw.
They are everywhere. Literally just pop out of the grass, woods or out of no where. Killers to be. Be prepared, try to avoid but Grandpa is coming home.
America has fallen in my 44 years. Bath tube gin aka meth and Fetty are next level destruction of the brain.
Watch out!! Here he comes... the Topless tweaker man...😅
I was waiting for a confrontation... I saw only observation and fear. I would have ignored that weirdo and did my things.
Set up camp. Have a couple beers and wake up or not to that at 3am? No thank you. Situational awareness.
Usually It's me that people are afraid of. Very large, hideously ugly and bad skin keep people away
If anyone was on meth, it was the biker. Chill out dude
Thank you. Sober as a judge.
Man, zombies are even in the most remote area's. Dam, from now on my Sig goes with me everywhere with me. This is actually a wake up call for me.
Thank you. Deep in the backcountry you expect to see normal over landers not topless Billy Idol look a likes on a sick one. Stay safe.
I don't know....didn't necessarily looks like a tweaker to me...Maybe he was having issues with his truck, or needed directions, or water, or other kind of help. You over-exaggerated in my opinion.
He was on a sick one. He didn't need water or logistical help. He needed another bowl of bath tub gin.
do all @mericans live in fear like this?
Not all but many and especially the gun fanatics. They’re all big talk but not much without their guns. This video seems like an astronomical and irrational fear-based overreaction.
@@johanballin6601 You are right ............. have you ever had to live with them in your foreign community? ............... do not "befriend" one cos they will gossip behind your back and try to ruin your life if they can.
@@johanballin6601 Gun fanatics.. hmmmmm..... I don't know what that means. I've only had 1 gun in my life, and have never had the need for one. But I think it's better to have one and not need it than to need it and not have it. To think that there's no baddies out there seems to be naïve in practical thinking. If guns were outlawed, only outlaws would have guns yeah???? You can call the cops,, but they will only get there in time to wright up the report. Which camp are you in?
Whut a 🤡 question.
@@johanballin6601 Whut a 🤡 response.
must be pretty soft if that 5 second not even close encounter ruined your ride and made you scared for your life
🤣🤣🤣
Definitely a BMW rider...LOL!!! Must live in a bubble if that's the craziest thing he's ever seen!!!
it's sensible to be more cautious and vigilant when we are alone, far from help
@@milest1732 I'm cautious and carry a firearm everywhere I go.... that's different than being paranoid of some shirtless dude in the desert!!!
It is called situational awareness. I bet you'd have a cup a tea with him.
Great vid! great info. I also have my CCW ..but not yet for CA here in S.Diego...waiting forever. Anyway...hey does that Cool It thermal insualtion work well? I may get some for my 46L top case. Do you put it on the sides too?
I think I heard ice crunch when he grabbed the water bottle .
Thank you. CA is a difficult place. I have found that open carrying works best for riding, but no can do in CA. People stop tailgating. The thermal matt works well for the top case. Added 2.5 lbs., but well worth it. I did not on the sides, but I would. They will dent from the inside out with stuff rattling around. I have a video on my my channel where I did thermal matt insulation all three panniers on my previous 1250 GSA.
no "ice" or meth on me.
I always carry a can of Fith Ops Tweaker spray in a small bag on my handlebars. Great non lethal countermeasure that is "designed for Grizzlys but works on Tweakers". The two legged wildlife is a real concern! Ride safe.
I almost had to bear sprayed this lass in a parking lot in Utah a few years back. I had just left Yellowstone.. I like your logic of having it on your bars is superb.
I camp out there sometimes with friends. We are always well armed and friendly to everyone we meet but you never know what kind of nutjob you might run into out there in the middle of nowhere.
Thank you. Dude was on a sick one. Glad I left.
