While talking to the operator, I heard noise and turned around to see him running right at me and after surely seeing my handgun veered around my RZR while flipping me off again and continued another 1/4 mile till rounding a corner. There are a few people on here giving you a hard time about running or worrying or feeling uncomfortable because some dude is running around being strange. It's like they are insinuating that you were scared or not man enough to handle a weird dude on drugs. I agree 100% with your assessment and situational awareness. Observing strange behavior is not being scared. Reacting to your observation if you feel those actions may constitute a threat or possible threat now or at a later time, is not only wise, but you would be a fool not to act on something you have perceived as potential threat. Removing that threat is absolutely your next step and if you cannot remove the threat, you remove yourself. That is not running. That is repositioning and regaining the advantage through natural or manmade obstacles. I am a US Army Soldier (retired) with many deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, and I am currently an instructor in personal defense, tactical weapon operation and home defense, and not only did you do what was correct, but what we instructed in standard Army tactical training. Situational awareness is one of the most difficult things to train. As a Soldier in a combat zone we had more than enough weapons of all types to protect ourselves and we used them often, but if the operators are asleep at the wheel, so to speak, what good are they? If situational awareness gave us just enough advantage to strike first or relocate to regain any advantages, we did what was necessary. If situational awareness allowed us to avoid conflict through peaceful means, depending on the mission objective, we did what we had to. I teach that same mindset in the personal defense classes. There are too many "tough guys" that carry guns and can't wait to use them or think that their years in the gym pumping roids and protein shakes, will protect them when they get hit from behind after they ignored their guts and wanted to _handle it like men._ Yeah, whatever. Those guys on here that imply that they would have ignored the dangers, real or not, and waited to see if anything happened, because they can take care of themselves, are idiots. And even if they could have taken that dude and beat him to a fucking bloody mess, shoved his head up in own ass and punted him off the mountain, they would be spending the next year in court defending their actions, and spending a shit load of money making some lawyers rich. Cuz they are MEN!! Idiots. Keep being smart and if it turns out to be nothing, so be it. At least you didn't turn it into a confrontational incident because you did not allow it to be. As I teach in my class - Shooting someone is easy. Anyone can do it. Not pulling the trigger is the hard part.
Thank you. It is an odd combination of people in the backcountry. People exploring to explore and people getting away to misbehave. Got to recognize the difference really quick sometimes.

Open carrying on motorcycle accomplishes two things. People don't tailgate you and don't yell or honk at you when lane filtering at stoplight. It also provides a sense of security in the backcountry whether it is a grizzly bear or a meth head on sick one from Boise, ID in NV.
What was the determining indicator to you , that made you assume he was a meth head? Seemed like a pretty brief and harmless encounter to me , and if anybody was displaying paranoid, sketchy behavior, out there , I think that would be you.

Compared to a boxer R 1250 ? Yes. But, I ride in WY, MT, and NV, where it is always windy. The parallel twin has a higher center of gravity. BMW bikes are meant to ride in all conditions. Trust em. I love the boxer in high winds, but the 850 parallel twin is a little shifty. Be ready for a little pucker on the 850. Slow down a little, and she will hold tight. It is a tall bike, and you gotta trust the lean.
Great vid! great info. I also have my CCW ..but not yet for CA here in S.Diego...waiting forever. Anyway...hey does that Cool It thermal insualtion work well? I may get some for my 46L top case. Do you put it on the sides too?
Thank you. CA is a difficult place. I have found that open carrying works best for riding, but no can do in CA. People stop tailgating. The thermal matt works well for the top case. Added 2.5 lbs., but well worth it. I did not on the sides, but I would. They will dent from the inside out with stuff rattling around. I have a video on my my channel where I did thermal matt insulation all three panniers on my previous 1250 GSA.
I go to Death Valley a few times a year (early spring late fall or winter typically) have yet to camp solo out there. I applied for my CCW about four months ago… have an interview June 25’ (L.A. County). Of course LE know a lot of people are going to be carrying out there, and when you are camping your camp site is your “home”, so pretty sure you can carry in your site legally (especially dispersed, probably not a good idea at a KOA or other private camp ground lol). I also bought a Garmin In Reach mini. Gives quite a bit of peace of mind when all alone in desolate places. Now I don’t leave home without it. Just picked up a fully decked out 2019 850GS two weeks ago. Took a long riding hiatus and excited to get into ADVing - and this is exactly what I want to work towards. Keep posting! And what's the legality with carrying on a motorcycle, do you have to have a CCW?
Thank you. Nice work on getting an F 850 GS. It is BMW's best true off road bike. 21" front tire and 100 lbs. lighter than a 1250. No CCW for me. I only open carry when riding a motorcycle. I have found that open carrying on a motorcycle keeps people from tailgating you. Also, when you lane filter people get mad, see a 10 MM, and get over it without honking or yelling at you. I only ride in CA, NV, UT ,WY, MT, and ID for the most part. On Death Valley NPS's website it says guns are allowed in the park. Camping in CA your campsite is considered your "home" so legal at camp in DV I would assume. Individual National, State, and Local parks probably having their own rules park by park in CA. Ex. Not allowed in Yosemite, period (or locked in compartment in rear of vehicle). I actually asked the DV NPS LER dispatch what the rules were in Death Valley and she didn't know. But, that park of the park is in CA but so remote I didn't unarm and because you go in and out of NV. CA sucks. Remove the mag with 10 bullets or less and lock in the top case. NV open carry legal with no permit. UT, MT, WY, ID constitutional carry or open carry no permit.
This is forever now a iconic youtube video because it captures perfectly the "state of "hypnotism, " the American male has fallen into thanks to technology ie smartphones etc. Weird man that u guys couldn't jist say hi. "I think im gonna camp here does that bother you?" Odd to say the least
There’s a few folks on here cutting you down for waving but you were just trying to be a good person being nice, but if you were someone that needed help and you were waving them down nothing wrong with what you did but there’s just some weird people out there, always carry protection when you’re out in the middle of nowhere, that’s a nice set up you have. Heck the other day I was walking through a parking lot and some nutcase started yelling and screaming and all I did was smile so being out in the middle of nowhere and seeing some nutcase could definitely ruin your trip if anything else just wondering if he’s going to come back in the middle of the night!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

@@andrewhall-yw5blLmao right!!!!
Thank you for watching.
Love your comment. I left so I didn't have to shoot someone.

I camped in the open desert in Blair Valley, Anza Borrego years ago with a pop up trailer and two guys showed up at dusk in a Jeep asking me directions to another area that was miles away. I gave them the directions and then they proceeded to drive loops around my campsite in their Jeep over and over again. They didn't kick up any dust, but must have circled my camp like 10x. I was like, "What the hell are these guys doing? I finally went into my camper and brought out my Mossberg 12ga shotgun and chambered a round. That was all it took. I never saw them again. I completely agree with your situational awareness.
This is clickbait. The SUV guy was not shown doing anything aggressive, and the biker showed his paranoia for nearly the full length of the video, with it getting worse as he made his imaginary escape at the end.

@aros702 don't be a victim. Don't be a wimp that has to walk around with the gun cuz that's the only thing you know how to do
@aros702 guns. Are only an offensive weapon to kill. It is not a defensive weapon.
You do not shoot another bullet out of the out of the sky with your gun as a defense..
This asinine idea is given to you by the gun lobby and you buy it like a sheep..
@aros702 every major country doesn't have redneck one tooth white people killing hundreds everyday. Killing babies children. Kids at school.
All these knucklehead white trash people care about is a woman getting an abortion because the fetus has died inside of her and the doctor won't do nothing.
Moronic people believe guns are a protection.
Try.
Training your whole body instead of your finger in your eyeball to shoot a bullet into somebody as an offensive weapon because you do not know how to defend yourself and you're scared of the world snowflake
Never see a guy so scared of a meth head. Lol
Homeless, meth heads, and violent people. My camping days are done mostly, except for local places I know. Any where else I get a la Quinta room
Thank you for watching.
That's why I carry. I don't like the idea of what would happen, but I also don't want to be a victim of drug fueled rage.
wonderful view
Thank you for watching.

@motorradmikegrossheim
You want to have a real good time, ride into Tonapah at dusk, and stay at the Clown Town Hotel.
Then after midnight, walk down the street into the casino.
🤣 Good Luck ! 🤡

What would Itchy Boots have done 🤔
Not sure...🤣
How many views did you get ?
I had a similar encounter with some meth enthusiasts a few years back. Scary stuff.
Thank you for watching.
Bathtub gin is the worst.
I thought it was going to be like one of those horror movies where he ends up being in front of you somehow.
From far away it looked like he blocked in on a one way in one way out road. If you watch the part where I drive by him his left hand is clenched in a fist and he right hand is tweaking. He clearly was coming at me.
