Lion hunts and eats heron at the Amsterdam Artis Zoo
A young heron is a little naive here at the Amsterdam Artis. It was his first experience with a Lion.

heron needed a solid ground to take off from. herons use their feet as a spring to push them to take off. can't do that if they're in the water

Thats actually excellent enrichment for the lions. Gets rhem engaging in natural behaviors, gives them mental stimulation. ... not so great for the heron, though.

That enclosure is tiny
To be fair that heron does not know those lions are big predators. Not on its radar. As they would not normally find each other in their habitats.
You can almost hear the lion's mind going a mile a minute while he's waiting "patiently" for the heron: "ohhhh that's right you little bastard, just keep coming closer....ohhhh i'm going to eat the shit out of you....that's right just keep swimming this way....just a little bit more c'mon...you're going to f*cking die!!!" hahaha
