I am a AM person at heart grew up in the 80s and 90s every one had a CB lots didn't have phones I mean even a landline house phone where I grew up but since FM is legal now on 11 meter it's better at times for local talk and I enjoy 26.805 FM when conditions are good... I know FM is great anyway for local communication from using MURS Band and Marine VHF radios... I Sideband talk less and less, I use to really enjoy it but it's gotten terrible... Majority of the operators seem to be increasingly rude or sometimes 38 LSB sounds almost as bad as channel 19 on the CB on a Friday or Saturday night in the early 1990s in Salem, MO which is the town I grew up in LOL and it was really really bad at times although entertaining 😂! I probably should not do this, but I'll comment for anyone who might be interested. An end-fed half-wave antenna should not require any ground plane which is why half-wave antennas are almost always used on boats and other non-conductive surfaces. They require a matching network of some kind (such as a transformer) at the feed point to bring the super-high feed-point impedance down to 50 ohms. Half-wave antennas such as the old Radio Shack and the Venom (and the various copies) are 18-feet long and often have short non-resonant radials which are used for capacitive loading only (which is why adding ground-plane radials to an A-99 makes no sense). A 5/8 (0.64)-wave antenna is 22-feet long and must usually have a resonant ground plane to work against because it is 3/4 wave electrically, with part of the radiator inhibited to create gain which is accomplished by either a coil (like the old A/S Super Magnums) or linear-loading (like the Penetrator). You cannot turn a 1/2-wave into a 5/8-wave and vice versa without a major change in the antenna's design. All the best!

This antenna seems more for 11 meters than 10 meters. The elements are a little long for the best results on 10 meters. Also the height at the apex is a little high which will create additional lobes that will weaken the main lobes. I would not put above 8 ft at the apex. What do you think? I’ve had it at 8’ and now at 20’. Seems to work better at 10-15’ up. I built it just to see how it would work “even if it would” so far I like it. One day May try to add a reflector and see how it does. But you’re right it’s more of a 11 meter antenna and basically what I built it for. Had to do something with the scrap aluminum tubing! Ya should have extended all the bottom sections out and tuned the very tip section up and down… I had to move my antenna down nearly 1ft or more to tune…So it really shortened the antenna..from like 18 ft down to 16/12

You aren’t standing near your antenna are you ? Cause being close to the antenna will trying to tune will throw it off or if it’s near anything… I would adjust it down then put it up and check swr.. lower the section a bit then put it back up and so on until I hit 1.2

Why does it have a feed on the radial? Is this to switch so you can use it as a horizontal antenna?
