Video file formats for export Explained: Complete list From Davinci Resolve
I explain all the available export formats of image and video, in DaVinci Resolve's deliver page. The factors that need to be taken into account when deciding, what would be the best video format for any given delivery target will also be covered. Broadcast, streaming platforms, social media, film distribution, archiving and corporate clients all have their own needs from a video file, and we as video production professionals / enthusiasts need to know what those differences are.

    Great video. One question, when I rotate a trackball vertically (ie towards 12 o'clock), the white dot on the color wheel in Davinci moves up towards 11 o'clock, ie not straight up, but towards the left. Similarly when I rotate the trackball straight down at 6 o'clock, the white dot on the color wheel in Davinci moves down towards 5 o'clock. It seems off by 30 degrees. The same if I rotate the trackball left or right (towards 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock), the white dot moves between 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively). This is with all trackballs. Is this correct? It doesn't seem right. I assumed that the trackballs would directly correspond with the Color Wheels in Davinci on screen.

      The main reason to buy the mini panel is the precision it gives to the adjustments and from that you become faster at grading. So no, the deviation you mention is not the assumed or normal behaviour from the panel. I don't recall having any deviation when using my own panel, so I can’t say off the top of my head what might be at fault in your case. I recommend you to post your question in the blackmagic forum.

    Now that the video is live, I am following up with it to check the content normalization. I see it was normalized @ -10.4 db. That is quite a bit and definitely something you can easily fix. The limiter in Fairlight page would fix that very quickly. Just an fyi!

    Excellent video, love the drama! I wonder if you wouldn't mind measuring the underside part of the keyboard so I know what size hole to cut in my desk before I go ahead and purchase it. Blackmagic's website gives the upper/outer dimensions but I need the bottom/inner dimensions. Thanks!!

    • @VIDTOOLZ
      @VIDTOOLZ 3 місяці тому

      Thank you very much! I'm no carpenter, but it would seem that the required slot for the keyboard would be about one centimeter less from the dimensions of the keyboard in both width and height. It might be a good idea to do a test with some cheaper material to test the proper size of the slot.

    • @kenbarnesfilms8108
      @kenbarnesfilms8108 3 місяці тому

      Appreciate the quick reply! Thank you. I had thought there might be a 1cm overhang on each of the four sides, but I don't have the keyboard to confirm. If so, the hole would need to be 2cm wider and 2cm longer than the Blackmagic website stated outer dimensions. If you have the keyboard, would you mind confirming the size of the part that would go into a hole? Or minimally sending a photo of the underside of the keyboard? There seems to be no info online and because of my desk construction (complicated), I hope I can get the size before ordering the keyboard. Thanks again!!

    How did you do the J & L Cut using the Roll Key? On my DaVinci i first have to resolve the Link from Clips to actually do that. If i keep the Link of clips it will always select the video and the audio clips. So how did you do this just with the Speed Editor? If i have to click, and use my mouse anyway... than the Speed Editor is no use for doing the J & L Cuts. Maybe im missing something. I rewatched your ROLL part multiple times. Don't know how you did it. Please explain. Good Video Cheers Daniel

    • @VIDTOOLZ
      @VIDTOOLZ 5 місяців тому

      Could this be because you use the audio from your camera, in which case the video and audio are linked automatically. I tend to not do that, instead I use audio from my external recorder, in which case the video and audio are initially not linked, until I manually link them. This was the first thing that came to my mind.

  • @chadas

    After pressing the RIPL DEL key, the current clip is deleted, but there remains an empty space that I have to delete afterwards :( How to fix it so that the created gap is also deleted?

    • @VIDTOOLZ
      @VIDTOOLZ 5 місяців тому

      As the name of the function implies, the ripple delete should both delete and close the gap in timeline. Are you using the cut or the edit page while experiencing this behaviour? Most likely you have some other command active, that overrides the ripl del command. For example, you could have the auto track selector (found in the timeline window) inactive on the track you are trying to do your delete.

    • @chadas
      @chadas 5 місяців тому

      @@VIDTOOLZYes, used by the CUT site. How can I check and possibly correct the correctness of the command? I checked the keyboard shortcuts but I don't know how it should be to do it correctly. The track selector will be fine if it removes the current clip.

    • @VIDTOOLZ
      @VIDTOOLZ 5 місяців тому

      The best way to make sure every keyboard command is behaving as they are supposed to, is to go to the keyboard customization windows and choose from the upper right drop down menu the default “DaVinci Resolve” keyboard layout. The RIPL DEL command behaves a bit differently in the cut page when compared to the edit page as in the cut page the ripl del behaviour on by default. Whereas in the edit page, the RIPL DEL is not active by default.

    • @chadas
      @chadas 5 місяців тому

      @@VIDTOOLZYes, there will probably be an error. How should it be set correctly so that it works on the CUT page and deletes both the clip and the gap at the same time?

    • @VIDTOOLZ
      @VIDTOOLZ 5 місяців тому

      @@chadasThe problem you describe is most likely related to the timeline you have open and the settings you have on that specific timeline. You can verify this by creating a new timeline and trying the same function there, does it now behave the same on the new timeline?

    I just bought the editor keyboad and love it, I hope to get an answer to my question about the F/TC key. Everytine I press is to get to a certain location on a mediapool clip via timecode, the number field switches to frame count, in other words everytime I press the F/TC key it defaults to frame count. I have right clicked on the number field to change it back ti tC display, but it seems to switch back to frame count. How can that be fixed?

      The short answer is: I dont know. I have the same behaviour on my editor keyboard's F/TC key. I asked about this in the BMD forum weeks ago, so far no answers. The DaVinci Resolve manual actually states the obvious: the key should toggle between the timecode and frame count views. But at the moment, it does not. I would expect some kind of software/firmware update from Blackmagic Design to fix this. I would also like to know if this problem exists in the mac OS as well. I'm using Windows 11.

    awesome videos... but there's one little question, how foes the F/TC key work? It seems to always go to frame, instead of timecode, do you know why and how I can change that to go to TC?

    Thanks! I always wondered what those meant when distributors requested them for audio tracks!

    I practical terms, the proper placement of the microphone will have the biggest influence on the overall quality of your audio recording.

      Yes, these are some of the basic technical concepts that I think every content creator should be aware of.

    Thanks. I thought this thing was useless for fiction editors, and you just confirmed it.

      Now I'm curious, what makes this tool useless particularly to fiction editors?

      Looks like it's great to place shots in the timeline. But this is bricklaying. Editing fiction and long form docs sees you using trim tools all the time, especially asymmetrical trims, once the shots have been placed in the timeline. And that's clearly an area where this tool seems to have little to offer. Back in the days, Lightworks came up with a jog-shuttle device and it allowed you to do everything without to have to touch the mouse, including complex trims with many tracks. Davinci is very fiddly, the more I use it. Shame because I really wanted to like it as I like the company being it.
