What To Do in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) During Vietnamese Lunar New Year - Tet 2025
This is my follow up video to the What to Know about Tet. In this video I'm going to give you a brief guide on Things to Do during Tet in Ho Chi Minh City.
What is Tet?
Tet is the Vietnamese lunar new year and it falls on January 29th this year. It's the biggest and longest holiday in Vietnam, government and private businesses close up to a week during this period. This is the time when many people go back to their hometown and villages to spend time with their families. During the first few days of Tet, it's a tradition to visit the homes of families and friends to exchange new year greetings. Afterwards, people enjoy leisurely time going to different venues for photo taking.
Even though many businesses and restaurants are closed from Jan 28th to Feb 1st, there are colorful Tet events and some tourist attractions that are open throughout the holiday. Here's my list of 10 things you can do during the lunar new year in Ho Chi Minh City.
1. Calligraphy Street - Youth Culture House, 4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street, District 1
2. Flower Markets - Le Van Tam Park (Tan Dinh), September 23rd Park (D1), Gia Dinh Park (Go Vap District), Binh Dong (District 8)
3. Nguyen Hue Flower Street
4. Tao Dan Park

    Thankyou so much for the video. Will visit Vietnam in May and this video really helps. By the way, is “hanoi book street” near from the old quarter?

      Hanoi Book Street is near Hoan Kiem Lake and Trang Tien plaza - so yes it is walking distance from Old Quarter. It’s not quite the same as the book street in HCMC which is designed more for tourists.

    will you suggest buying a suitcase there?

    • @traveleatvietnam
      @traveleatvietnam 10 днів тому

      It's definitely cheaper to buy it in Vietnam - you can find suitcases in HCMC and Hanoi. They are mostly the polycarbonate ones. The Rinowa ones are pretty good copies.

Would you by any chance have a suggestion on where to buy some Marino wool T-shirts and regular shirts? If you are flying in - you can get a sim card at the airport. Most likely shops will be closed from Jan 28 - 31st. You might be able to purchase an e-sim online. Good luck!

    Tet in Vietnamese was written as 節 100 years ago. Koreans who can read Hanja, Chinese and Japanese will know it means 'festival'. Tet Trung Thu is 節中秋 . And if you know Chinese, Japanese or can read Korean Hanja, you'll know it means Mid-Autumn Festival. When I was at Ho Chi Minh History Museum, I was able to read the ancient text on display. I think Vietnamese can preserve Chinese like the Japanese, using them in names and content words. Famous Chinese actors such as Wang Yi Bo in Vietnamese is Vương Nhất Bác . Why? Because the Vietnamese who did the translation knew how to read his Chinese name 王一博 in Vietnamese.

    Thanks so much for this great video! Our first day in Vietnam is going to be in HCM on jan. 28th and we just heard about Tet shame on us! :( do you know when the post office will open again? I wanted to see it so much :( And do you know if tours to Mekong delta etc. operate on jan. 28th?

    • @traveleatvietnam
      @traveleatvietnam 24 дні тому

      Hi - thanks for watching. Of all days during Tet - Jan 28th is going to be one day that has most impact on visitors because many places may have closed or will close early. Even if you find a tour on this day - it’s probably going to feel a little empty because people are occupied with the traditional preparations. The hop on hop off city bus tour operate on this day but stops at 7pm. Best to manage your expectations!

      Hi - thanks for watching. I've seen this hotel from the outside and it's really narrow and small. It's in a great location though I haven't seen inside. For the price their quoting, it looks like a budget hotel. They don't have actual photos of their rooms so that makes me skeptical about if the room matches the 3D drawing.
