    I followed the cg method for years, all was fine until I got diagnosed with SD. My dermatologist said the essential icky oils that are used A LOT in the cg products where the culprit. Because we use tons of products with this method the triggers are on going. My hair was falling out like crazy, red and itchy scalp. She put me on Eucerin High Tolerance Shampoo and avoiding products on scalp, rinsing upside down and Curlsmith Shine line which is scent free. From the first wash my scalp was balanced and not red and itchy anymore! After a while my hair grew back and my curls are still super nice! No nizarol etc needed just avoiding those essential oils for me😁

It explains why, in my past trials years ago, I'd settled on KCCC as my favorite...I live in a dry climate (Arizona) and KCCC doesn't have synthetic molecules nor glycerin. All shampoo mission is to cause dryness so we have to use conditioner. I think deep conditioning before shampoo is a good idea than when u use a gentle mild clarifying shampoo or regular shampoo they can b mild medium or extra striping. Natural fragrance free clarifying shampoo can b a little gentler. Going a longer time before shampoo is great for some example is those who water wash there hair once a month then clarifying every other wash

    A few questions: How often do you use the TGel? What do you do with your hair when you sleep at night? What does your post shower routine look like? Is it mostly just scrunching your hair with the gel?

    • @doublegpeak
      @doublegpeak 2 роки тому

      When I made this video I used T gel maybe once a week. Now my scalp feels better with a gentle anti dandruff shampoo every other day (As I Am Dry Itchy Scalp Care), and a regular clarifying shampoo as needed. I'll use the T gel if I feel scalp buildup that nothing else is helping-- usually a couple times in the winter is when it happens. At night I use a buff, or just leave it down and flipped up over a satin pillowcase. Post shower, I use a t shirt towel to wrap it and get out of the shower. I flip right side up, add more water to readjust if needed, and add gel by praying hands method. Then scrunch/blot out water, and diffuse (or, often, wait a bit before diffusing so diffusing doesn't take as long). Glaze over a little hard hold gel after diffusing. In winter sometimes I get better results adding a mousse too.

      Hmm oil might be something you just have to try and see how it goes. Oil on my hair makes it too limp so I haven't been able to test that for myself. Recently I tried scalp oil massage just to see, and that was a bad idea for me-- flare up after a couple times.

    What hair products would u recommend to make curls pop or keep them more hydrated without it impacting the scalp for dermatitis

    • @doublegpeak
      @doublegpeak 2 роки тому

      Personally, I focus on using an anti dandruff shampoo as often as I need, and not applying non-shampoo products to my scalp (and it's been trial and error which shampoos work best without being irritating or too stripping). I've found lately the As I Am Dry Itchy Scalp Care shampoo to be fairly hydrating in spite of being a shampoo, and I think there's also a co-wash if you need more hydration. I have to use a strong shampoo every couple weeks, so I make sure I have a good hydrating conditioner. Aside from that, I don't put gel or mousse on my scalp so I feel free to try whatever I want. Sometimes a little protein in products can help curls pop, and add strength after a clarifying shampoo, but too much will cause dryness.

      @@doublegpeak do you still use the same conditioner (biolage) and leave-in (as i am) with this shampoo?

    • @doublegpeak
      @doublegpeak 2 роки тому

      I used up these particular products and decided to try As I Am Dry Itchy Scalp Care shampoo, which worked well for my scalp but I felt that it was over hydrating combined with a heavy conditioner like biolage. I still like the biolage as a deep conditioner, and my hair liked it better as a regular conditioner in humid weather. Someone gave me a bottle of Pacifica pineapple curls conditioner that I started a couple weeks ago, so far it's going well. I still use the same leave-in conditioner, when I feel like I need a leave in.

    YES! I have sebhorreic dermatitis (diagnosed as a teenager, I've dealt with it my whole life, it also causes what LOOKS like dry skin on my face/ears, but is actually the oily buildup, yuck). The whole "dont' wash your hair" very often was always hugely problematic for me with the curly girl method. Finally I came across a post that talked about not having to go ALL IN with the curly girl method ALL the time and doing what works for you and this was hugely beneficial! One thing that I will note is that my doctor recommends alternating your treatment shampoos that have different active ingredients, as otherwise your skin starts to build up resistance to the medications - which has happened to me previously. The prescription shampoo that she has given me is a stronger ketoconazole. On doctors recommendations I have alternated between: 1. Head and Shoulders Clinical Strength (active ingredient is selenium sulfide), Neutrogena T/Gel (Coal Tar 1% (active ingredient is 4% Neutar® Solubilized Coal Tar Extract), and Nizoral (active ingredient 2% ketoconazole) --I know that I need ones with the active ingredients so I was so excited to see your list for ones I can possibly swap out! Also if you get the seb derm on your face/ears like I do you can use these as a face wash as well. Keep in mind most of these do need to sit on your skin for at least 3-5 minutes to be fully effective.

    As someone experiencing hairfall, what do u advise? Can I rinse my hair with apple cider vinegar to balance the ph?

    • @doublegpeak
      @doublegpeak 2 роки тому

      I would advise figuring out what is causing the hair fall. It could be caused by hair breakage, but it could also be caused by scalp issues, or even body issues like nutrition or hormones. Manes by Mell has a good video on this. Personally I would not add a vinegar rinse just to try to balance your shampoos pH; vinegar is acidic itself and that could also do damage. Shampoo formulators usually add things like conditioners to make up for any pH effects in their products. If your shampoo makes your hair feel rough, maybe switch to one that has more conditioning agents, or make sure you're using a really good conditioner or deep conditioner.

    Picked this one up on sale to try and it's not working for me at all. My hair actually feels terrible after using it, like I rinse and rinse and rinse and it just feels so bad, like I need to use massive amounts of conditioner to lubricate it after whatever is in the shampoo sticks to my hair. I'm thinking it's the protein. I really need to stick to protein free products because I low porosity hair and do absolutely nothing that would cause protein loss.

    • @doublegpeak
      @doublegpeak 2 роки тому

      While vinegar would lower the pH, I wouldn't add it to products. They have been formulated to work correctly, and not be chunky etc, and changing the pH might have unintended consequences. Also, lowering the pH too much also isn't great for hair; unless you have access to a lab pH meter it won't be easy to tell how much you're lowering the pH.
