In 2002-2003 I thought it would be a great idea to buy, not one but two buses. The first bus is a 1972 GMC T6H-4523A New Look transit bus. The second bus is a 1956 GMC TDH-4512 Old look transit bus famously used in the 1967 movie "The Graduate". I know little about maintaining/restoring these vehicles so this is quite a learning experience. On this channel I'll share my adventures dealing with the buses as well as other things that interest me.

This is my experience of covering interior walls of my Morton Building with plywood. It wasn't intended to be a solo job but turns out it can be if needed.

Goodyear Airship Hangar Tour - Wingfoot Lake

The inside of the Goodyear hangars aren't currently open to the public. Thanks to a friend who works at the facility I was able to get a tour for my family and I decided to record a bit about it for posterity and sharing. By 2023, Goodyear has plans to open a small museum inside their Ohio hangar to share their history.

Attempt to get work done FAILED
Переглядів 3902 роки тому
My previous video showed my attempt to get Unit 23 to a shop and get some mechanical work done. After all the issues getting the bus there it turns out that none of the work would be done. This is a brief update on how that played out.
The bus journey that didn't go as planned

My plans to drive Unit 2345 to a garage to get some work done was completely ruined by the bus I was trying to fix. So rather than share the story of my planned journey I am left with sharing the alternate.
Creating custom Zippo lighter art with stencils
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
This is my first attempt at using stencils to create an image on a surface. My inspiration was to apply the GM Coach logo from an old look GM bus to a personal item that I could use. Every year we shoot of fireworks so I thought it would be neat to have a custom Zippo lighter to use for our celebration. It's not perfect but I'm thrilled with the result. Hopefully a few more attempts and I can i...
Morton Building: Utilities Run

I'm slowing chipping away at finishing the inside. This is the status of my building 3 years after it was built. Granted, the 2020 pandemic didn't help move this project along and now the bubble in material costs but here is how far I've gotten. Most of this straight forward but there are a few things I've learned so I throw a few tips in.
President Lincoln and Grace Bedell mystery
Переглядів 9073 роки тому
Westfield, NY is the home of Grace Bedell who famously suggested to President Lincoln to grow a beard. While the town has erected statues to commemorate their meeting a few months after her letter I still feel something is missing. I took a little walk around town trying to find the location of this missing piece.
Insulating my Morton Building
Переглядів 153 тис.3 роки тому
In order to save a bit of money I opted to do as much of the insulating of my Morton Building on my own...with some help. This video will only cover insulating the side and end walls, not the ceiling. I hope it helps anyone looking for some information about the process.
Improving roof vent operations
Переглядів 5263 роки тому
A small project to improve the overall operation of using the bus. This particular GM TDH-4512 has 6 roof vents that have become stuck. That plus most of the windows not opening (yet) can make a summer ride a bit....uncomfortable. Time to remedy that.
GM Old Look Bus Window Removal
Переглядів 7873 роки тому
A majority of my windows are impossible to open so I need to start remedying that. First step is to remove the stuck windows. This is my first attempt to do this work so it'll be a learning process that hopefully will lead it to becoming easier for the remaining windows.
What would I pay? 1960 GM SDM-5301 (Episode 5)
Переглядів 1,9 тис.3 роки тому
This bus is a steal!! It's a 1960 GM SDM-5301 New Look suburban coach for sale online for a fraction of what I think it's worth. Honestly, I think a bus in this condition that is meant for highway driving is gotta be worth something to someone. At the time of the publishing this video the bus is still for sale online. If you are in the market go check it out!
Buying a Morton Building: The Process and Cost
Переглядів 531 тис.3 роки тому
Have you wondered what the process from website to completion of buying a Morton Building? In this video I share my experience of the process and what it eventually cost me to buy the building in 2018. A key factor in the cost will be the price of materials, specifically steel and lumber. For an accurate comparison look at those material costs in early 2018 when I bought vs the time you are loo...

Cool
can u list the music that u used for the video?
I have a running 1960 GMC 35 foot Detroit professional y converted for sale
Im sorry but that is NOT the bus in The Graduate. That one was a shorter version of the GM Old Look transit bus. This one is a shorter version.
It's looks like the Rosa Parks Bus, The finish product is Beautiful ❤️💯
We own a coach/motorhome conversion. Towards the end of its working life, it had names of local schools and colleges on the blinds. I made a new destination sign and put crazy destinations like "LOST", "MIDDLE EARTH VIA TIMBUKTU" or "PARIS VIA LONDON" (we live in Australia) just for a laugh. I just used a vinyl cutter to make the names. As you said, there's no regulation font. I just used Arial.
Your resourcefulness is truly admirable!
Great video!
Well done. I drove for CBS for three years spanning 1988-91. I believe I drove 2345 just once, on a day when a bunch of the newer coaches had broken down and it was pressed into service for a few hours. About an hour into my shift the mechanics got another one running and swapped it out.
Good video. I just had a 40x 36 morotn put up this june. Actually got finished on my birthday june 24th. I did all the site work, plumbing, concrete and electrical. Had to take down some very large trees and move a small mountain during the site work but it was worth it. I installed 4 floor drains a utility sink drain and toliet flange. Poured the concrete and small apron protruding into the driveway and stoop for the man door. Power trowel finish on the inside turned out well. Finally this past week rented a lift and got the high bay leds installed and the oitside area lights installed. My next step is insulation but i dont plan on heating the building this year
Best breakdown video I have seen and also considering Morton in the Indiana area! Thank you! 🙏
Thank you for history trip.
Love them fishbowls
I appreciate the information and great insights on the process. It is all overwhelming but worth it in the end. It sounds like Morton is standard driven which explains why their cost may be higher. Most don’t do this repeatedly, so you want it done right the first time.
Does Morton builds the metal as well.We are planning 10000 sqft one.in the market.contacted local.have not received a response yet
Im designing a replica of this bus from scratch and couldn't for the life of me find the door width. Thanks!
Short sleeve t-shirt and shorts........ Must not be of the itchy glassy kind of insulation.... BTW, I also wear a tee-shit and shorts every day here in Florida........... Could SPRAY FOAM insulation be any cheaper? I'm guessing approx. $6,000 for foam. Glad I found this before I move forward
Was in Akron on business for the past week. Couldn’t get a tour because I didn’t have a group. Real bummer, Couldn’t even just look through a window.
This bus looks like a combination of a flexible and fishbowl bus
This bus looks like the framework of a flexible bus and the side windows, the back window looks like a fishbowl bus window as well as the top roof back heat vent looks like a fishbowls heat unit, and its EXUAST pipe is not under the bus like a fishbowl bus, its on the back side just like a flexible bus
Thanks for the info - much appreciated.
The new looks are my all time favorite city bus.
Very interesting & funny.
Cool 👍
Very well done! Such a hilarious parody. 😂😂😂 LOL
I will buy it as I have a 1967. 2000 hours of education may make my offer better than others.
I loved the old GM buses from the 50's and 60's, with that screaming Detroit. There's still nothing like it. 😊
I don’t know why I didn’t look that scene up until watching an old family guy episode again (that does a spoof of the graduate as well but on a smaller scale). This is fantastic and thank you for posting this!
Very helpful...very, very helpful. Thank you for taking the time and energy to share, knowing you may never know just how helpful it would be to someone else. Salute.
Thanks. I'm investing in a friend's custom engine build (& general mechanics) business. He really should have a ~50'x60'x16' space.
Thank you for sharing. Nice building and wonderful presentation.
Thank you so much for this wealth of information. Your video was very informative. Please keep posting.
I live in Missouri and since it's very humid here I've been told that the metal buildings sweat. I don't think it would be a great idea to use this kind of insulation for me. Ive been told there is some kind of underlayment that needs to be applied to prevent rotting of the wood frame. Any professionals have any recommendations ?? I don't want to spend time and money and do it wrong and later down the road face the consequences..thanks
Just had an estimate for a 40x40 Morton building in March of 2024. Building, concrete, and doors = $124k . Maybe in my next life…
Are you Blackmagiccrafts dad?
Thank you you are a big help
I have a documented 1968 GM TDH converted to an RV. It is subjective,
I own a GMC TDH 1956 transit bus . I’m trying to remove the front doors off because they have considerable rust at the bottom of the doors and I have a fabricator and welder who can remove the rust and repair the doors. Can you give me any guidance on what I would to remove the doors for repair.
The Nickel Plate Road pulled a switch-a-roo with the City of Ft. Wayne, IN in the early 1960s, when they asked for the steam locomotive that had been the first to lead a train across the new elevated track through town about 10 years earlier, for display in a city park. That locomotive, Berkshire type #767, was subsequently involved in a wreck after the ceremony, and while it was repaired and returned to service, it was never the same, had ongoing problems, and when the railroad Dieselized in 1958 was one of the first to be scrapped. Not wanting to totally disappoint the town fathers, they substituted locomotive #765, renumbered it for #767 and gave it to the city. Well, when a group was formed about 10 years after that to refurbish the locomotive for possible excursion operation, they realized the builder's number was for 765, not 767. This turned out to be very fortunate for the group, because #765 was probably the most reliable and best running locomotive on the division, a crew favorite, and had received a major shopping not too long before retirement. So, they got a well-taken care of and reliable locomotive that ran for nearly 20 years before needing a major overhaul, and it still runs to this day, a fan favorite.
I have one. If it come up for sale, let me know. Thanks.
Appreciate your video...plan on building in Summit County, OH in the next year or two.
there used to be a whole yard full of these L.A. city busses just rotting away outside of Los Angeles around Y2K. Probably 25 or more. Probably all gone now. Havent been back there since because CA is a nightmare
I am in Poland Ohio And planning for my second building
I just got done watching The Graduate for the first time. And with Wayne's World 2 being one of my all time favorite movies growing up. The final scene had me laughing just from remembering Wayne's World 2. 😂. First thing I had to do was look online for a side by side comparison. Thank you for doing this .
Yes! Same here! 😂
In Cuba we had buses exactly like this one with a small window before and after the back door. They arrived in Cuba at the end of the 1950's and were already in use in the USA. We also had a small version! They had automatic transmission and air suspension and seemed like they were floating above the streets! Congratulations to the engineers and designers of those Old Look GMs! ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👋👋👋👋👋👋 It would be interesting to see if there are promotional videos of those buses with their creators! !!!Applause! 👋👋👋👋👋
Hi I'm a former Transit Driver from Bpt Conn. You have to of the Best Busses GMC has ever built. The old Look and the New Look. Good Luck on your progress ... Just a little tip. When driving the two busses when turning the wheels do the push and pull method work's much better!🎉
Applauses! ❤️❤️❤️❤️👋👋👋👋👋👋
Wow! We had this same type of GM Old look and the small version in Cuba! They arrived in Cuba in the 1950's and were already in use! Excellent air suspension, they were automatic and super comfortable! They have the same number of windows with one small window before and after the rear door! Applause for GM designers!!! I remember one in particular with the number 1442 that went from Havana to Guanabo! ❤❤❤❤❤👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
