Smithsonian Air & Space Museum Aircraft Highlights
From a recent 2017 visit to the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum - Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. THIS IS NOT the same Smithsonian Air & Space Museum that is on the National Mall. This facility is just south of Washington Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, Virginia. There are no shuttles from the Air and Space museum on the National Mall. You can take public transportation - first taking a train and then a bus. But that method of travel could take well over an hour to reach the museum. We took an Uber from the Capitol building and it took about 35 minutes and cost about $40 one way. Which is well worth it, since the museum admission is free.
In my opinion, this museum is much better than the museum on the National Mall. The massive hangars allow for enormous aircraft to be on display. If you could only go to one, make this one the priority!
Specific aircraft appearing in the video:
Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird (0:45)
Boeing B-29 Superfortress - “Enola Gay” (1:10)
Air France Concorde (2:00)

Cozumel Scuba Dive -- 100+Ft. Deep Dive Palancar Caves (GoPro)
Переглядів 4,8 тис.13 років тому
In 2011, we traveled to Cozumel, Mexico to get our Advanced Open Water Diver certification. This is footage of our first 100 feet deep dive. The dive site is called Palancar Caves. I brought along my GoPro camera again. We stayed at the Occidental Grand Resort. Dive Palancar was the outfit that ran the scuba trips there.

2011 Honda Fury and Harley Davidson Sportster (Nashville Ride) -- GoPro
Переглядів 23 тис.13 років тому
Tested out my GoPro camera for the first time on a motorcycle. Used the auto mount on the tank as well as two different helmet mount locations. Switched to the waterproof case when it started to rain. Footage turnout pretty good. All of the footage here is RAW from the camera. No color correcting. I was riding a 2011 Honda Fury while my friend was riding a 2011 Harley Sportster Nightster.
Bonaire -- Driving South on the Northwest Side Of The Island

Driving south on the northwest side of the island. From this you can see that there is no beach at all on the northwest side of Bonaire. There is a beach on the southwest side of the island, but it is all rock. Thick-soled scuba boots are a must on Bonaire.

I was part of the original security team there from 1/2004 to 9/2009. I could have worked there for the rest of my life. Unfortunately things didn't work out for me there. It was the best experience I've ever had in my life. I truly miss the Udvar Hazy Center

2:57 Ten Boeing Stratoliners were built and one-and-a-half are left: this aircraft and another which was converted into a house boat. I saw it in Fort Lauderdale in November 2010. When it was a complete aircraft, it was actually owned by Howard Hughes during the War and he had enough influence to be able to tell the government to get lost when they wanted to commandeer his private airliner for the War Effort. A lot of the technology developed for the Stratoliner was carried over to the B17 bomber. There have been a few changes and additions since I was in this museum in January 2010. I must go back. A return visit is on my To-Do List next time I'm in the US.

Thanks that's what I needed to know. I'm not looking for a sport bike, but I just need to know it has enough power to go when I need it. And can keep up in highway speeds.

  • @strix2035

Does the engine make enough power? Does it accelerate fast ? And is it good on highways? Keep in mind I'm 6' 240lbs and is there aftermarket metal for all the dam! Plastic?

***** It's definitely not a high-powered, hold on tight bike. But it's pretty solid. It gets up and going comparable to similar class bikes. On the highway, I had it topped out with minimal shaking. But cruising at or around interstate speed limits was nice.

I don't own the bike. I only had it for a day. It was completely stock. I topped the speed out around 105 to 110. But the governor wouldn't allow anymore. Whether the speed was actually (100mph) as I've read is the limit and the speedometer was just off, or whether it was actually doing 105 to 110, I'm not sure. But that's what the speedo told me. I pinned it to the last number.

You should get the lens fix for your GoPro the next time you take it underwater.

@caydn2 Getting your basic "Open Water Diver" certification does take some work and might be hard for some people. You need to do some lessons in a pool and then complete 3 or 4 real dives. Then you'll be certified to go 60 feet deep. Which is fine for most dive locations. "Advanced Open Water" certification is actually pretty easy. You basically have to complete 4 or 5 dives with an instructor. Then you're certified to go 130 feet deep.

@TheChevyman21 You went to Martha's and didn't go to the Shaker and Crush building! That's the best part of diving there. The buildings are next to each other on the far back, left side of the lake from where you enter. You'll definitely want to swim the surface out there and then descend. Ask somebody that's there and they can point you in the right direction. The roof of one of the buildings is just below the surface (about 10 feet).

Sthemingway if anybody is planning to get their motorcycle license, its smart to take your local safety course. You can learn some great emergency moves. Regardless, Floyed above is right. If you're going fast enough, and a deer jumps out at the right moment you're screwed. Hopefully your helmet & other ride gear save your life (that's about as much as you can hope for). Riding is a risk. You're more likely to get ran down at a stop light by an asshole teenager texting on their cell phone!

Driving a car--day or night--and hitting or nearly hitting a deer must be a very different experience than riding a motorcycle and seeing a deer jump out. I was just curious about how a motorcyclist might handle such a situation.

  • @Sthemingway

I like the night time riding footage. What would you do if a deer jumped out from the trees? How fast could you go and still be able to stop/swerve without hitting the pavement?
