How To Lower Soil PH In The Lawn
Переглядів 1,7 тис.3 місяці тому
If your soil is alkaline then the best way to adjust it is to use a combination of peat moss, acidifying fertilizers, and soil sulfur. So basically, if you have store brand, 50-in-1 fertilizer like 90% of us, you have to put it down after seeding. But, if you have each individual chemical, then just follow what this guy just said.

    I over seeded my lawn three days ago without covering it. Have a bunch of bare spots that I seeded as well. Now I'm regretting not covering it. We've had a ton of rain since then, so it has stayed moist. Can I still cover with peat moss? Or should I start over and cover it the second time around?

  • @RiseT14

    What would you recommend after dethatching? I mainly have tall fescue, and I have a few bare spots in my yard. I was thinking of throwing down Kentucky Blue Grass seed in those spots and fertilizing the entire lawn afterward. I'm looking at a weed and feed product because I have some crabgrass in the yard as well, but most say don't apply for 3 weeks after seeding

    • @RiseT14

    I'm putting down bahia seed here in Florida where our soil has zero nutrients due to it's sand content. I read that I should add 16-4-8 fertilizer to the sand/soil, before seed. What do you think? Would that be a waste of time, money, and energy? The seed isn't coated if that matters. New home owner, new to everything lawn.

    Ive been wanting to dethatch for years but only now hearing the term scarify. How do you know which you should do on a mostly ignored yard (outside of mowing -almost no bagging) ive been here 9 yrs. Also does what level you mow matter? 3-5 most often. Cant do 3 in the front when its warm or it browns out fast

    Would you say aerating would place the seed too deep? For instance, the seed has to sprout and then grow an extra 3-4" to reach the surface. Then the aeration hole eventually closes and now the crown of the plant is 3-4" underground. Why do people over seed after aerating?

    • @turfmechanicbriefs
      @turfmechanicbriefs 3 місяці тому

      Great question, I've put seed in aeration holes and watched it sprout faster and grow taller than everything surrounding it. Nature is amazing, I don't know the science of exactly how it works but gradually these plants adjust their crowns higher when they get buried, so long as it's not too crazy. Same reason why you can level a lawn and cover grass up with half an inch of soil and still have a perfect lawn a couple months later. Benefit of seed germinating in the holes is fast germination and guaranteed deep root depth.

    Any chemical enhancements only bring larger issues in the future and create environments for pest and disease. Long term organic soil development with a non toxic natural bacterial enzyme based product to accelerate the breakdown of dead and decaying materials, such as crop stubble, compost heaps, lawn or turf thatch, plant or grasses that have been sprayed with a herbicide implement such as Earthlife " Break Down Plus " and recommended doses of Seasol during the fall period to strengthen and weed out your pasture or lawn is appreciated prior to winter. A conditioner and fertiliser for new or existing pasture, containing Nitrogen, Natural Phosphate, Potassium, Sulphate, Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, Copper, Boron, Molybdenum, other trace elements, minerals, plant available silica and beneficial soil microbes as the product "Pasture Blend" by the Australian grown company " Earthlife" will make any neighbour envy. I personally manicured lawns throughout the Eastern coast of Australia for decades and live by these applications with extreme makeovers from all levels of care.
