    It is actually not the hot on heat index, however with added moisture (humidity) the transfer of heat (energy) is much higher making it feel 25% hotter than it actually is. Water is the best conductor of energy, especially on your skin. High humidity either transfer heat onto your skin by constant contact or with the help of a breeze, it will remove that heat giving you some relief. Drink plenty of water or watermelon juice my favorite.

    Hi Jack, thank you for the helpful tips. I’ve a question hoping you can help. I’m planning a trip to Osaka from Tokyo by riding the Shinkansen on a Sunday morning. My hotel is close to the Asakusabashi Station, so Google suggests taking the Asakusa Line from Asakusabashi Station to Shinagawa Station, then transferring to the Shinkansen. Since I am traveling with a large suitcase, I’ll need to reserve a Shinkansen seat with oversize luggage space online (retrieve paper ticket once I land in Tokyo). I see that on the JR website when I search for a route from Shinagawa to Shin-Osaka, it shows me two fares (Basic & Ltd Express) combined into one. My question is, according to information you’ve shared on this video, is it best to use an IC card to get on the local train at Asakusabashi Station & get off/exit gate at Shinagawa Station with the IC card (to pay for the local train ride) and then walk to the Shinkansen ticket gate and re-enter with paper ticket? My worry is if I don’t exit/end my local train ride at Shinagawa Station and internal transfer to the Shinkansen, when I arrive at Shin-Osaka I’ll have to settle the ticket fare in some way which I’m trying to avoid due to language barrier. Thank you.

    • @liljapan
      @liljapan 27 днів тому

      Thank you for your nice comment! When you transfer from subway to Shinkansen at Shinagawa Station, you need to get out once from subway's gate with IC card and re-enter to Shinkansen's gate with paper ticket. At Shin-Osaka Station, there are the gates for "direct transferring" between the Shinkansen and "JR" local lines. When you use Shinkansen paper ticket and IC card there, it settle the fare automatically. In case you transfer from Shinkansen to subway, you need to get out/re-enter. If you have any question during in Japan, please let me know with Instagram DM ror something.(jake_japan.navigator on Instagram)

    I've travelled across Japan last year and explore which rails/buses take credit cards. I went to Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka and Tokyo. So far, I found out that Nankai lines in Osaka, Fukuoka Metro, and Kagoshima trains take credit card outside of Tokyo. IC Cards do read a lot quicker compared to credit cards, but it's definitely a good option for foreigners. I do end up using IC cards, while test out using credit cards when boarding a train. It's a fun experiment :)

    Another suggestion that sort of depends on luck is trying for stand by reservations to theme cafes. Most will have openings available at the store or online if people cancel last minute! You may have to try early on, and probably best if it's a weekday to avoid more crowds, but if you get in it can be a good time. We also went to the Aquarium in Osaka during the rainy day, which was a fun way to avoid the weather! The ferris wheel was pretty with the rain (it was not too cloudy).

    Hello Jake, thank you for your helpful tips. Could you advice: My route is Yonezawa to Tokyo by Shinkansen (basic fare included) . Arrive at Platform 21. Then transfer from Tokyo to Platform 9 for Ito by Odoriko Ltd Express (basic fare is included). 1) After reaching Tokyo station, is there a transfer gate to go straight to Platform 9 without having to go out and in again? If yes, do I insert both the Shinkansen ticket and the Odoriko ticket into the machine? Then only the Odoriko ticket will pop up for me to take it for my journey to Ito? 2) There is a transfer time of only 12 mins at Tokyo station to catch the Odoriko. Do you have any idea whether Shinkansen Platform 21 is far from Platform 9 for the Odoriko? If 12 mins is tight, then I will choose the later Odoriko which is 1 hr later (we can just walk around inside the station). Better to wait rather than rush and miss the train. Thanks in advance.

    • @liljapan
      @liljapan Місяць тому

      From Shinkansen to local train (Odoriko express), you should use transfer gate with your ticket. Depending on the situation, the number of tickets are vary between 1 and 2. If everything goes smoothly, I think you can transfer from Shinkansen to Odoriko express in12 min. If you're worried, you could take next Odoriko train and spend some time browsing the shops in the station.

    I personally couldn't handle the couple rainy days we had in the fall when we traveled - it was difficult to navigate especially with a small child who I would have to carry while holding the umbrella so they didn't get their feet soaked (since we didn't pack any rainboots). We ended up canceling our outdoor plans those couple of days and stuck to catching up on laundry in our hotel, shopping, or going to the aquarium instead. But I appreciate knowing when the rainy season is from this video so I can try to avoid it! How long does the rainy season usually last?

    Shibuya "Sky" suddenly emerged and vaulted to near the top of the list of places to see and visit in Tokyo. Like the High Line in NYC. An unexpected excessive success?

      Shibuya was a old town in Tokyo, it need to renovate whole town. Shibuya Sky is one of that kind of updates 😊

    This place (Shibuya "Sky") is just too popular (and desirable) to avoid problems in organization and crowd control. Maybe building 3 or 4 of them might cool things down.

      The main rainy season is in June. April should be fine. It's the season when you can see cherry blossoms.

    Hi Jake, I would be most grateful if you can confirm if one is still able to redeem the JR exchange voucher at Shinagawa Station. I’m having difficulty finding this information. I note you advise three locations for redemption. Is this still available & are the opening times as explained in you informative video. Thank you.

    I have heard to avoid Golden Week from many travel videos, so I wonder if it's not as busy because people are trying to plan around it! Thank you for making the video, it's interesting to see how crowded places get during different travel periods.
