my experience moving to greece pt. 2
It's now may, as usual I am delayed with uploading... I filmed this in March. Have been home for a few weeks now in April/May before I leave again for work. If you have any other questions or want advice moving to Greece, or even other European countries- let me know. I have seen a lot of Europe so I can offer a broad perspective of advice. Thank you for watching & supporting my little Chanel. I promise I will focus more on my videography when I slow down with work.. life has just been super super busy. Take care of yourselves.

Visited Japan (Kyoto & Tokyo) for a week in February. It was the most magical experience. Such a unique and interesting country. Bangkok, Thailand I only saw for a few days and didn't get to explore that much. I highly recommend visiting Japan- the culture, the people, the way of life... so beautiful.

I am excited but at the same time feeling bittersweet to express my news of a changing chapter in my life story. For the past 4 years, I have gone through many struggles in my personal life. Moving to a small Greek village town called Kastoria, was a culture shock for me. I'm greek, I love my relatives, and the country is undoubtedly beautiful. But on the flip side the country is broken economically and the spirit of the greek people has been broken .Corruption is the cancer of greece, if you dont have some (MESON) contacts..... your finished!!! you will never fine your dream job, because those jobs are taken up by politician's relatives friends and cronies.Thats why the brain drain is leaving in droves. The young people aren't getting married and having children, for the simple reason the wages are not just third world but fifth world.

    I’ve never understood how people can feel good in themselves at the end of the day and sleep well at night, and feel good in their lives, after making their money by scamming naive foreigners and young women etc in a foreign country. Like I would rather just be poor than scam people for money. Unfortunately the scamming in Greece is completely normalized. No wonder they have the mindset of ‘we only do business with family, but we don’t business with other Greeks’. No one trusts each other. The society is falling apart. Hopefully something will change soon.

    My experience as a Greek american man with Greece and "Greeks" is that most are FAKE. They are not nice people , in Greece or in other cuntries. They pretend to be nice but there true colors alway come out. More women than men are bad. But still men and women are nasty self hating traitors and backstabbers. Many have become amoral.

      @@Kyanoxaita Listen very carefully! Most greeks are fanatical lazy commie libs with no logic or morality. They hate the junta because it went counter to there insane thinking. Order to their disorder, logic to their illogic, industrious to their laziness. The military govermen was cleaning Greece of this rotten element and puting Greece on a good path of independence and self reliance,not debt and dependency from what this "democracy" has brought. Before it was clean and safe with mostly Greeks, now it dirty dangerous with too many foreigners.

      living in Rodos, ill give you a basic price breakdown Rent: €800 (3 bedroom double story with large kitchen & big yard front & back) Electricity: approx €50-70 a month Food: €500 (we are plant-based & eat high-quality produce) Fuel: €200 (we don't have highways or much traffic in Rodos, everything is close by) Car insurance: €30/40 per vehicle (we have 2) Pet food: €200 ( German Shepard & 2 cats) TOTAL: €1850 We round it off to €2000 always as a budget. Every household is different depending on the property you rent or if you own a home, how much electricity you use, if you have children or pets, how much you eat and what you choose to eat, how many vehicles you choose to have and how much you drive. Every month is different. We land up always saving or spending a bit more depending on if our pets need to go to the vet, if our cars need some service, if we need to book doctor appointments etc.

      Do it if you want just know it will be hard in the first years. If you have savings it will be easier. Make sure you have something online set up to sustain your dream. Beware of closemindedness and many setbacks, but in my opinion the Greek lifestyle with sufficient online money is completely worth it.

    First, your name in the chanel's title is mis-spelled. Now let me get this straight - you move abroad, alone, to the central area of a 5-million ppl metropolis, without speaking the language and with no job arrangements. Doesn't matter if you're male or female. To start with, the suburb you moved into is among the first of Athens suburbs to get turned into a gheto - in fact, ppl there are boasting of that and hype their sthole as 'soo multiculti & bro-gressive'. Kypseli is impoverished urban melting pot, anyone moving there should expect dismal living standards. If multi-apartments, impossible parking and diverse landlords/neighbors aren't your thing, then don't move to Kypseli. Move there only if your absolute priority is close proximity to Athens center. Simple! As for the roaches, my friend's son moved to Lecce, Italy a few yrs back to study at the local university. He rented a groundfloor with a SCORPION problem, no kidding, it was a renovated 100+ yr old stone country-house where scorpions crept out of the masonry AND if that's not enough, the region was named Taranto because it's apparently the homeland of Tarantula spiders

    Thank you for taking the time to reply. I was last in Rhodos in May 2008. I have several relatives and acquaintances that still live there or visit frequently;however, I barely communicate with them. Like when you spoke about your hair my relatives lie to me and/or about me. My true family are my pets. To get my Greek fix I watch Takis shelter videos and a few other Greek channels now including yours. My mother's side of the family is most recently from Rhodos. When I was younger I had two girlfriends from South Africa and learned about one of your countries. One of my favorite dog breeds is the Rhodesian ridgeback which is from Zimbabwe. A dream would be to move back to Greece but I doubt it is feasible. I am in America and feel discriminated against because I am of Greek descent. Because of the gossip in Greece if I were able somehow to move there again I would probably prefer to go where I don't know anyone. Again, I enjoy your videos. It is good to be a critical thinker.

    • @Kleopatra_13.13
      @Kleopatra_13.13 5 місяців тому

      I understand I also lived in America for 8 years when I was a child till a teen, it was difficult since they don’t have a culture… I was depressed. Look, I hate the gossip in Greece as well but I’ve learnt to not care. If they don’t inspire me to be like them, then their words don’t matter. Often if you’re different- people have something to say. I’ve been bullied on my UA-cam & TikTok often people writing horrendous things to which I have to delete because of the harassment. And in Greece people will always have something bad to say. I have learnt to keep to myself, not over share my personal problems to people I don’t like nor trust- and spend a lot of time with my dog & the people who I know are good people. I’ve set boundaries that if someone wants to enter my space or take my energy from me- I simply reject it assertively. In my previous home we rented I was often frequently overwhelmed that I did not have privacy from my landlord and they would visit anytime of the day to sit and drink tea and stay for hours, even though they were nice people in general, they would sit gossiping and it would drain me, I simply began putting boundaries restating that I need my alone time and I eventually took control of my days. If you’re someone who values your alone time and does not want the social pressure of people, it’s okay to simply be an introvert. I used to feel guilty for it. I find the energy to socialize when I can- and then I easily get tired and depleted and need a few days to recoup my energy. I’ve learnt that removing people and social situations out of your life that doesn’t serve you purpose- truly sets you free 🩷

      I rarely comment but I think you are a person with a good heart. Regarding nutrition it is good to be a whole food plant based nutrivore while always keeping in mind to supplement for iodine, B12, and D2. Because you are in Rhodos D2 isn't needed except in January and February. You would also need to always reduce your fructose and FODMAPs. I do not eat anything processed, meat, seafood, dairy, sodium, sugar. If you have questions on FODMAPS and what a nutrivore is just ask. Taking your vital statistics daily is eye opening: blood pressure and heart rate and knowing how to take them properly and what the difference is from using your right arm versus left arm and arm versus ankle may change your life. Regarding dams around the world but not on islands the people in power are starting to get rid of them because it is better for the ecosystem. The issue is people living downstream whose homes may be flooded or need to be evacuated and relocated. Regards plastic they lie to us. The chemistry doesn't really work in most cases and cannot be reused. Regarding being Greek American I view it like being a wolf dog hybrid. Not entirely accepted by either group. You are like a coywolf dog hybrid. Greek American South African. It could be worse, I have a first cousin who is Greek American Turkish. I am on my mother's side of the family a direct descendant of the Greek genocides on the island of Chips and of Smyrna now in modern day Turkey. Access to quality food and water is always something to keep in mind. The Germans starved 382,000 Greeks during WW2. My father's side of the family was directly affected. After WW2 the Greeks had a 3 way civil war. Mexico City and I think a part of South Africa are already getting low in water. You come across as most Greeks as very passionate. To be Greek is to be educated and always seeking to improve. Remember your microbiome and all the other parasites living with you need to be fed optimally for you to be at your best mentally, emotionally, and physically. I haven't been to the beach in years. Thank you again for letting me live vicariously through your video when you went to the beach. Have you been to Lindos yet?

      I hope you are able to move to Greece. It can be very challenging to do so. btw I used to live in America and moved ot Greece. Its really hard to find an online job. This might sound insane, which it is, but try going to platforms such as indeed and find an online sales job or something like this, or become a digital nomad which is very challenging. The first years in Greece are also very hard, they will make fun of you for your American accent in Greek (as was my case) just don't stop improving your Greek and you will surpass everyone in some years. Also some hacks to fix Greek, I write essays in chatgpt and ask it to correct my Greek, use it as a language partner too, and watch academic content in Greek. Also if your parents are Greek insist to always speak Greek with them, which was what I did and it worked well. Best of luck, write a letter of your dream life in Greece and manifest it with beliefs and actions. All the best man.

      Luckily I do not have much of a profera. Even when I am in Rhodes they think I am from Cyprus. When I am in the mainland they think I am from the islands. Many of my relatives are deceased or I do not have their contact information or they prefer to or only speak English. I am worried about water scarcity and quality. I think it is an issue growing rapidly in importance no matter where someone is on the planet. It is hard to determine if and where to move to. I have pets so I would prefer somewhere rural so I don't have to worry about neighbors complaining or trying to kill them. Thank you for your advice. Where are your favorite places in Greece and why?

  • @GregoryLenetis
    @GregoryLenetis 5 місяців тому

    I enjoy your videos. Are there pet stores to buy food for your dog or do you you have to prepare food for them? If there are pet stores do they sell cat food? If so is wet pet food expensive? Because it is so hot in Rhodes how is it for your dog with heat exhaustion, mosquitoes, horse flies? Do neighbors complain about your dog barking? Is it easy to find a place where if your dog barks neighbors won't hear it? My whole family almost died in a wildfire on Rhodes many years ago. The wildfires, flooding, water stress, water scarcity, and water quality, as well as plastic pollution are always on my mind. War with Turkey and migrants is also a concern if I were to move back to Rhodes or elsewhere in Greece. Congratulations on your engagement and your parents moving closer to you. Again, I enjoy your videos.

      Hi there!! Please read this article on the official page of Rhodes Gadouras Dam 🤗 www.een-gadoura.gr/en/ There are many pet stores and veterinary clinics for animals, so you have a lot of access to pet supplies. There are 5 major pet shops which are stocked with many many things. I prepare extra food for my animals for their nutrition to add veggies & fruit in their diet. No the pet food is not expensive if you are buying a certain brand, they have from average to super premium food grades. For my animals I always buy super premium quality to ensure they’re getting the most vitamins and nutrients for a long and healthy life but the shops cater to all financial needs of pet owners. There is frequent wind in rodos so it helps with the heat. We water our dog and cats down with some water everyday during the super hot hours to cool them off and it helps a lot. Also they have access to shade or they are inside with us we do not leave them in the sun. Neighbours can complain about dogs barking but many people have dogs so it’s normal for dogs to bark. We live in a monokatikia so it helps us and is easier than we when we lived in apartments. Generally to find a house outside of town is easier than the center of rodos which is mainly apartments. The benefit is that you have access to a lot of nature. We don’t have dramatic flooding but just like anywhere in the world- these things could happen in random times. They have created a dam to help with water reservoir and planning to build a few more in the future. Wildfires can happen in greece it’s just part of the summer but airplanes are able to reach seawater quickly to help extinguish them. Also they have a strong evacuation system. The water quality is in EU regulations ever since the Gadouras dam was developed- they have strengthened the quality. I have a water filter in my kitchen and I replace the filter once a year, I have no problems drinking the water. Plastic pollution isn’t a problem- I have noticed rodos to be very clean and they maintain the island very well. How many years ago were you living here before coming again? It has developed in many ways and they are constantly improving the islands each year to be more sustainable and better developed for tourism and local population demands to be comfortable and safe. Also the war with Turkey is not a threat as they are seeming to be on good terms with greece. Turkey doesn’t want rodos island it’s not one of the islands they have had conflict with in recent years, war is always a concern due to historical events.. but generally so far there is peace.

    Spot on! Greece's beautiful islands and vacation places are for tourists, but actual life there is extremely difficult for foreigners, also for Greeks. I have been in Thessalonica helping my daughter care for grandsons for 6 years. I am originally from the US, married in Austria for 24 years. The people here are, generally speaking, very rude and impolite. Yes, I am constantly being overcharged, cheated in change, cheated by landlords, exactly as this young lady describes. I paid double electric bills for 3 years, because the landlord put the neighboring apartment on my bill. The landlord also wanted to add on extra expenses for what he should have been paying for. 11 taxis passed me by on a Sunday morning after I attended a non-Greek Orthodox Christian service, had a sling on my arm because of a broken shoulder. No one would give me a ride, but when a Greek came, they took them. Men will always push their way first at a store, and have no respect for women. I have been spat upon about half a dozen times, simply when walking down the street! (The is a custom here for people they consider "evil".) Strikes are often. The post office is miserable. People are angry and hateful because of the years of austerity, coupled with covid and the war, but that doesn't give them a right to blame others or to treat them badly because of it. I have rarely ever been refused service in my life, but it has happened on numerous occasions here. I traveled a lot in Europe and the US and I have never experienced anything like this. They say that once one gets into the Balkans, things are even worse. By the way, in order to open a bank account in Thessalonica, they told me I had to pay $10,000, although I am an EU citizen. In the US anyone can open a bank account for $50, or sometimes for even $1. People in the government agencies and hospitals are also equally as rude and simply want to refuse service to "foreigners" while, in contrast to that, hundreds of thousands of Greeks have left to other countries where they earn well and are treated fairly, with respect. I understand this young lady's frustration. Unfortunately it was her first excursion as a young woman out into the "big, wide world".

      I grew up in Greece but in 1970 I migrated to Australia. I love living here, being treated with respect and have opportunities in working and studying. The only negative I have say about living in Australia is having no family and loneliness. In 1980 I visited my family in Athens and they convinced me that I was better off living in Athens. So I came back to Australia and packed up all my personal effects and moved back to Greece. What I found out was the scamming and how if I wanted to do anything I had to pay every one under the table. If I was alone in a restaurant the waiters ignored me but my so called loving family were no longer loving. I decided enough was enough, and made the decision to come back. I only tell you this much, my personal effects crate costed me from the import section to the export section of Pireaus as much as the transport from Australia to Greece. I had to pay so many bureaucrats under the table, it was disgusting. I never went back. Love Greece, I am missing the culture, the sea, the country side and the seasons and the food. What I don't miss is been judged by how much money I have and the gossip. I have a few close friends there and I keep in touch on Whatsapp.

      Hey! First I want to ask have you ever been to greece? If you like being by the seaside with beautiful hot temperatures and warm fresh nights then you will love it. It’s an island with a lot of things to do, a big party life, loads of tourism’s and restaurants etc. but also historical sites, stunning nature and quiet villages spread around. It’s really a diverse island. It’s big enough and busy enough to feel like you are on mainland but small enough to feel like you are on a magical island. Check out some videos and images of Rhodes to get an idea of the lifestyle. It’s also an affordable island if you compare it to Mykonos. Depending on where you will stay and where you choose to go out to eat of course. And as a foreigner leaving the UK I am sure you will enjoy the sunshine. 🌞

    Hello Kleopatra, if that is your name. I have listened carefully to your video. Honest and real. Thank you. You are brave to move there like you did, but your youthful enthusiasm offsets your innocence. I am not sure if there was a crisis that spurred your move. I am now a bit older, speak Greek fluently and live in an Australian city. I have to move to Greece. I have had enough of this world of progress and trade. My family will sort itself. Have no friends here because everyone works all the time. I suspect I can afford to live in Greece on passive income even if I don’t sell my house. I know I’ll make friends. I have close family there. But to move there the fear is dealing with the … public who only have enough to eat and therefore are looking to steal a euro wherever they can without being too overt. I suppose that is good, otherwise everyone would be there. Greece’s relative poverty protects it from the hoards staying all year.

    I consider Athens a very different world from the rest of Greece. It's one of Europe's most dangerous cities. If you have discernment you can tell the spirit in Athens is very different than other Greek cities or villages. I would consider visiting Athens again for it's beautiful history but I would never move there.

I can't say I felt unsafe there either but I never went out at night. I've also lived in some of the most violent cities in US and so my point was about avoiding unsafe feeling areas because of using street smarts and not being naive. Athens is a magical city.

    Hello I wanted to ask you some questions. I plan to immigrate to Greece and learn the Greek language. Is it really difficult to find a job and a monthly salary in Greece? Or, for example, I have heard that administrative work is going very badly. Is this true? Or rent a house? What I see and hear about Greece is like a nightmare and scares me to immigrate there! 😮

    • @Kleopatra_13.13

      Hello!! I am planning on making a video answering all of the questions people have been asking me from around the world. Once I finish making the video I will inform you. There are a lot of aspects to consider when moving to Greece, but it also depends on which area you decide to move to Greece that makes life either more difficult or easier. We just moved to Rhodes (Rodos) Island. The economy there is very strong and generally the lifestyle is better financially. But compared to other places that have small villages, financially things begin to change when being in different areas.

      Hello! I will be making a video on that soon. Which country are you planning on moving from if you come to Greece? I know anyone coming from USA/Canada feels a huge change with the lack of organized systems and maintained city grounds etc. It all depends what you have been exposed to and how you feel about where you want to move and what lifestyle you're seeking and aiming for.
