Another great video Thank you
Yes! So excited for this!
It was a great time.
This might be your finest work. Now I have new grails that I want but can never afford.
@mikekennedy9777 Lol. Thanks Mike. The Bronze Age stuff has become pricy, but still nothing compared to pre code. I think you still have a chance here!
Great list!! ❤❤
@lovelyannalove Thank you. Appreciate the comment...especially from the Queen of PCH!!! 😉
Stick to your comics expertise!
Good list. I have Haunted Thrills higher - it’s a book I stack with currently I think 5 copies… cannot get enough of it.
Great book to stack. Thanks for watching.
LOOOOVE Ghost Manor #23, my all time favorite Bronze Horror cover. Been a fan before the 'boom'. Very happy it's starting (and Tom Sutton's covers overall) to get eyes on it.
I couldn't agree more. That cover is amazing...and Tom Sutton is definitely under rated.
Wait... you bought that collection for $100?? Oh man lol
I think I said $2500 near the end of the video. Thanks for watching.
@rhmidwestcomics lol oh ok, I was like how in the hell did he get 0.03 a book. Not a bad group of comics so far for only going through 50%
@naclteeballz8569 Yeah, not a jackpot by any means, but these are probably the most common types of collections that become available. Thanks for all the comments.
Fantastic list bro! Great video. 🍷🍷🍷
@@briandriver7872 Thank you. Next week...Pre Code Horror! Appreciate you watching.
Love the list 1. Tomb of dracula 1 2. Blade the vampire hunter 10 1995 My list
Great choices! And thanks for watching.
Great list! In my opinion Batman 227 isn’t a Bronze Age horror comic. It’s an amazing cover, but not a horror comic or horror theme to me. Would absolutely replace that with House of Secrets #88! I would also add House of Mystery #214, my personal favorite Wrightson cover! Thanks for the list, I still feel that BAH doesn’t get the love it deserves!
@brychology Two great choices for sure. I'm a fan of HOS 88, but I had to look up HOM 214 to remember what it was. Definitely a nice cover with the faces on the fingers. Also, I appreciate your thoughts on 227. That choice was really made for the cover art and not the stories, but I definitely see your point. Thanks for the comments. I enjoy these discussions.
Thanks. Nice list. Personally I would include Tomb of Dracula 10 on the list not overly scary cover but super popular and iconic comic that is within the realm of bronze age horror.
@michaeltan4204 I think you're probably right. I thought long and hard about it, but I'm really not a fan of the cover art at all. I meant to include it in the collage at the end but completely forgot. Worst case, I can see myself adding it as an honorable mention next year. Thanks for the comment.
A definite slant towards the DC Bronze Age horror comics. I've never been a fan of the DC horror stuff, but we all know the saying about opinions... I'm just always amazed that the excellent cover of Dead of Night 1 by John Romita is left off of these lists. To me, it's so reminiscent of the pre-code horror stuff. I know it's a reprint comic, but like the Golden Age, it's all about the covers--not the stories.
@@pbales8951 I think you make a good point. Dead of Night 1 is a nice cover and is definitely growing on me. Marvel horror definitely doesn't get enough love these days, but maybe that will change in the coming year. Thanks for commenting.
John Romita's Dead of Night #9 is also a banger!
Love these books ! I wish there were more lists that discussed the interior art and stories more bc if you read a lot of them there are some awesome stories . It also shows how great the EC horror books are bc those stories were arguably better than many of these DC bronze age horror tales . Great video
@thecomickeeper5127 I agree there is very little content out there for stories and interior art. Maybe I can try to do something like that in the future. Next week I'll post my pre code horror Top 10. Appreciate your comments.
@@rhmidwestcomics awesome. No worries. Great work on the videos!
I guess it depends on Your definition of high end vintage. There was an ungodly amount of high end sealed vintage, graded vintage, prototypes ect. Going to a toy show expecting great comics is like going to a comic show expecting great vintage toys. There’s always some because of crossover collectors but it’s definitely not the focus. I could always do with less modern personally no matter what show it is but realistically a lot of people buy modern junk.
@TimTalksToys I did see alot of Star Wars vintage, selaed, graded, etc. A couple graded TFs, but it paled in comparison to the graded and vintage comics you see at a comic show. Even at this massive toy show, there were more graded comics than toys. I was surprised by that, but maybe the toy hobby just hasn't grown with grading like comics have.
@@rhmidwestcomics I think that vintage toys just have a lot more collectors than investors. There’s always exceptions but complete in box, and loose complete is far more popular than new in box or graded in the vintage toy world.
What a difference between barns in Ohio and the ones in Arkansas. Too bad my wife didn't want to stop for a look see and get a feel of the local XXX barn folk 🙂 Seems like way too far of a drive though
@CVMGAM Definitely worth going at least once. I would have loved to spend time there without filming. I would have enjoyed it much more.
@@rhmidwestcomics I used to live in Michigan, so it was fun reading the highway markers while you were driving out there.
@@CVMGAM Always fun counting down to zero.
@@rhmidwestcomics Yes, good old Ford Rd
I shiver every time one of these gems is dropped (yes dropped) back into the box. Visions of downwards grade bumps dance in my head.🫣
The books are really well protected with bags and boards, but I agree it looks like I'm handling the books a little rambunctiously because I'm going through them so quickly. I'll keep that in mind for future videos. Thanks for the comments.
THAT IS INTERESTING..TO VALUE A COLLECTION ON HOW MANY KEYS THEY HAVE & HOW MUCH FILLER THEY HAVE. HEARING GUYS BUYING COLLECTIONS AT .10-.25 CENTS EACH HA.
You have the best videos on the internet, but when you don’t say how much you paid for the comics. That’s the whole point! Love everything else!
@JuanTorres-zp2ij Appreciate the comment. I think I said how much I paid for the TF, but you're right...I didn't mention the comics. TOD 2 through 9 was $175. I'll have to start writing a script to remind me to say the price. Thanks for watching.
Your the best.
In the toy world it's called vintage not old. Lol I don't think toy people want new stuff...
@eggplantcomics8336 Yeah, I should have given more detail. There was a ton of modern stuff that was just used, no packaging, missing pieces etc. All of the vintage stuff I saw was as expected, but I also expected to see more vintage and more high end vintage, in packaging, etc. Overall, still a fun show. Appreciate the comment.
HOW MUCH DID YOU PAY FOR THE COLLECTION....& HOW DID YOU DETERMINE THE VALUE RATE?
@timwatson-re1fx Hi. That was a long time ago. Not sure what I paid. I usually value a large collection based on the key issues. I use GPA and ebay sold prices. For smaller keys, I offer around 60% of fair market value (FMV). For bigger keys, I go up to 85%...but really depends on the book. Hope this helps.
Some great books! Really looking forward to the sale!
@tonytothe8544 Thanks. It should be a great sale. Previews coming soon.
Always great books, graded accurately, and fantastic shipping. I recall the sale from last year and it was fantastic! 👏
Thank you, Devil Dog!
Wow.....that's a crazy amount of comics. Can't wait for the sale!
We are definitely looking forward to the sale as well. Stay tuned for more previews. Thanks for watching!
people got destroyed by the big covid boom
Yep. Many did for sure.
Great info. I’m sure Iv lost on books I been buying but I’m a 20 year holder so I hope there are still collectors in 20 years 😅
You're probably in good shape if you're holding. But, then again, hard to predict. Superhero burnout is a real thing, but I doubt it will last.
Newsstand > Direct. Got to take that into account.
I gave up buying silver and bronze (my favorites) many years ago due to cost. But I’m now waiting for some to come in the mail because I’m shocked and happy that the prices are finally reasonable on reader copies. Yay!
@woodyforest2100 Yes, reader copies have become extremely affordable. Glad you've been able to get back into it.
Can't blame You most comicons nowadays are over priced and only half comics.
Definitely true in many cases these days. There are efforts ongoing to make more comic centric cons. Hope to see more of that.
Investing in comic books costs at least 10-20% on each transaction, as opposed to literally NOTHING for stock trades today, tells you all you need to know. The only people making consistent money on comics are the auction houses/eBay. Oh and the state sales taxes are wonderful as well. Make that 12-24% on each transaction.
@Songs-n4u I think you make a good point. Margins are slim on comics these days. Hopefully these videos help people make some decisions on whether or not the time is right to buy something for their personal collection. Thanks for the comments.
@@rhmidwestcomics I just wish more collectors existed, and fewer to no speculators. This used to be a hobby for readers/fans/people trying to have fun, not a part of their 401(k) or whatever.
Hey, what’s up you do know a little more than one year ago. Amazing Spider-Man 129 9.8 sold for $30,000 that was it the fair market value. There are some comic books still setting records, like the case of the first appearance of the green goblin.. amazing Spider-Man 14 8.0 sold for $9900 record price on eBay about two months ago.. 9.6 sold for $50,000 on Comic Link recently and the fair market value Go Collect is $35,000. Well, it doesn’t seem like you can go wrong with pre-code Horror especially EC and EC they are arguably the best books ever published because they had the best artists and writers, especially Wally Wood and AL Williamson
@RobertMatteis-pe7vh Thanks for the comments. I saw that ASM 14 8.0 ebay sale for 9900. Definitely a head scratcher because another 8.0 sold four days later for 5200. Regardless, ASM 14 is still a great key issue. It's actually my favorite ASM book. And yes, PCH is still extremely hot. Wonder if it will ever cool off. Thanks for watching.
When prices are down it's a good time to buy.
@kevinkelly4436 Yes, definitely becoming more affordable. Probably going to keep going down for awhile.
Nobody other than dealers and flippers want to see the prices of comic books go up. This shouldn’t be a rich man’s hobby. It annoys me when people say “mostly everyone wants to see prices go up.” No, just you and the other flippers. Hope prices keep crashing until a kid with his weekly allowance money can afford the book.
@CollectingLlama You want comics to go to zero??? When I was kid with a weekly allowance, I was buying books off the newsstand, not huge keys from decades ago. Your scenario isn't logical. There are many older collectors that aren't flippers or dealers and will eventually want to sell their collections. Obviously we all would like people who've been collecting their entire lives to get the most money possible for retirement. Don't you want that for them?
I am hanging on to my 7.5 HOS 92! 😁
@@josephbarbera9220 That's a nice grade. I would keep it as well.
Never compare prices from the comic bubble during the pandemic (using the term “boom” not bubble shows a lack of market, statistics & economics) to anything. Those prices will never again be realized for any book.
@davidsamuelson2089 The comparison is important to realize how ridiculous the prices were during the comic boom. Showing the prices prior, during, and after the boom gives good perspective...especially for people that may be newer to the hobby. Thanks for watching.
Having taken statistics and probability in college I personally ignore the comic book prices realized during the pandemic hysteria. It was a statistical anomaly due to the influence of several abnormal events and circumstances.
@@rocketfighter8 Agreed.
All of these are soooooo played out and boring. Same books. Same books. Same books. Marvel Bronze Age was printed to the moon and back. These are entry level books, meaning they can be found and bought at any minute, any day. Expect further drops in these common books.
Sorry you find it boring. Did you at least like the newest edition to the video?
@@rhmidwestcomics the video itself isn’t boring, it has some solid insights and I appreciate the research. My qualm is with the focus on these same books from multiple channels. Some content creators have even gone so far as to try and create an “index” using these books. Ha!! I get it, they are heavily traded and sold, so I understand the logic but a fresh crop of books or a focus on overlooked/rare books is highly needed to diversify people’s interest and potentially turn them on to something new, thus driving collectors to new pockets of collecting and generating excitement.
Bingo!!!! All I see is the same 💩 over and over and over. Everything is a investment and then when prices are down people panic and sell sell sell.. All sheep
Can't wait for the Ghost Rider video.
I'm on it!!!!
It's not getting ugly, everything has just fluctuated down for a while because the economy has shifted, the movie franchises have had little impact and overall excitement seems to be down. It will go back up eventually.
Agreed. I'm looking forward to the upturn, once it finally happens.
@@rhmidwestcomics Well I hope it goes back eventually, maybe it won't haha.
MOOOOOOAR
Always a good show 📉
Thanks. More to come!!!
Hulk 181, gsx 1, and asm 129 have close to 20k each in census which is very high. Books like HoS 92 and MS 5 (ghost rider) are actually quite rare in anything above a 6.5. with only 5-6k each in census total. So naturally I think over time the market will reflect supply and demand fluctuations accordingly. Hulk 181 will always be a popular book with high demand. However its value may also be beholden to its high cgc census numbers. The people collecting these books aren’t effected by economic trends as much as the average consumer but the global economy still has an overall impact. Younger generations have shifted their collecting more towards Pokémon cards. These social shifts also influence the value of bronze keys especially. As those younger generations aren’t coming in droves to scoop up hulk 181.
Yeah and about 1000x more people interested in Wolverine x men and even punisher Supply is important but Demand is also just as important in economics.
Appreciate the insight. Agree that we may lose the younger generation. I don't see many kids at the comic booths when I go to shows. Going to be interesting.
I predicted a drop in comic prices about 15 months ago, based on forecasts from leading stock market analysts and economists who were warning of an impending recession. It was logical to expect that the comic hobby would follow suit. With the current high inflation and economic uncertainty, people have less disposable income to spend on comics. As you mentioned, it's great news for those who do have extra funds, as they can now acquire key comics for much less than a few years ago. Unfortunately, this downward trend in comic prices is likely to continue for another 12 months.
@@leerogers5318 You're probably right. There truly are no signs that this will end any time soon. Appreciate the comments.
Well, the pandemic bubble ended over two years ago and the prices quickly began to drop then, so I don't think you were in a minority with your prediction (except for dealers with their vested interests). I do agree with you about the continuing drop, and I think it will last longer than 12 months.
This is not only happening with comic books. Sports cards, video games, action figures, Magic the Gathering and many more collectibles are way down.
Can u please adjust these prices for inflation ?
@@thecomickeeper5127 That's an interesting point. There will be others that claim inflation doesn't matter since the stock market has continued to grow while comics have continued to decline. I may take a shot at trying to do that. Thanks for the comment.
because you cannot feed your kids with comics, house them or keep them clothed... sadly...
@@jamesnguyen7069 Agreed. That's definitely part of the impact of these prices.
I am keeping all my comics for next 20 years so I’m good. And don’t collect manufactured high prices in Variants and don’t collect modern books. 😅
@@edduran2571 I don't blame you. My collecting habits are very similar. The more vintage, the better!
What?!?! I just fed my kid a silver age collection 😅😅😅 dangit
If your net worth is 10 mill do you really care?
HOS 92 is an overall better buy investment wise. The others though popular are in such abundance.
Very true. I suspect a much lower print run, albeit I don't have the numbers.
I always keep an eye on the High Grades, Prices at Heritage, as a comic collector since I was 8 years old, (71 now). still collect too, I find it amazing about comic art, that never seen much in my early collecting days. We just knew collecting was going to change when the CGC started up, hated it. Mainly because I couldn't get nicer books for the old prices! I enjoyed your analyzing of the Prices on the books... no doubt this will be a Big Auction for Heritage. will check back to see how you see that.
@WHOMEWHOYOU Appreciate all the comments. CGC has definitely changed collecting. I see good and bad with it but I definitely understand your points. Books are extremely expensive now and many cannot get the books they desire. We'll see how things in the next year as prices will probably continue to fall.
Imagine I kid in 1961 browsing through a mint FF#1 at his local drug store and being told it would be worth $1M+ in 60 years. 🤑
