Pretty good start but the pick will definitely help, youll get used to it although on some songs you benefit from the muted sound that comes from finger picking. It also sounds a bit obvious but lots of songs have different tunings so Google them and use an app or something to tune the guitar itself.

When playing with gain on a strat style guitar like that it's best to put the pickup selector (the slider) in the second or fourth positions that will cause it to use two of the pickups which will help with the buzz

Set gain to 6. treble to 5. Bass to 4. If you have middle then set that to 6

The tone dials on your guitar correspond to which setting the switch is on, when the switch is pointing towards the neck, the signal comes from the neck pickup and sounds more 'tinny', the middle switch uses all pickups and the switch pointing down uses just the bridge pickup which sound more 'bassy', once you've got to grips with how those sound, just mess about with the amount settings until you get the sound you like, or what sounds good for the song! Sorry if I was unclear atall😂
