10 Minutes And 5 Ingredients Are All You Need To Make This Amazing Pasta
If I'm in a rush and need to whip up dinner fast, this dish is always at or near the top of recipes that come to mind. It's quick, easy, doesn't require fancy ingredients, and guaranteed to satisfy. Here's how to make it:
500 g pasta of your choice (I prefer linguine or penne rigate)
4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
650 g grape tomatoes
1/4 cup tomato paste
Large handful fresh basil, sliced into strips or ripped by hand (plus a couple of extra sprigs)
Freshly grated parmesan
1. Drop your pasta in a pot of boiling salted water. While it cooks, add a good splash of extra virgin olive oil to a large pan on medium heat. Once warm, add the garlic and fry for 30 seconds. Add the tomatoes and tomato paste and let cook until the tomatoes start bursting, about 2 or 3 minutes. Throw in the sprigs of fresh basil and continue cooking until most of the tomatoes have burst, about another 2 or 3 minutes.
2. Pull the used basil sprigs from the sauce and season to taste with salt and freshly cracked pepper. Throw in the remaining basil. Drag the cooked pasta from their pot into the pan of sauce. Toss to coat, and add splashes of pasta cooking water as needed to get the sauciness you want. Serve with a generous shower of freshly grated parm.
Cheers!
Robert

This Simple Dish Is Filipino Comfort Food In A Bowl
Переглядів 12814 днів тому
Filipino-style picadillo will always have a special place in my heart. It was one of my mom's go-to recipes when I was a kid. And even now, when I visit her house and see a bowl of picadillo bubbling away on the stove, I can't help but get a little excited. I've tweaked the recipe just a bit, but here's how to make it: 450 g lean ground beef 1 onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped 1/4 ...
Miso-Braised Pork Belly Is Worth Your Time
Переглядів 149Місяць тому
Most people know pork belly as bacon. Or as a Sunday roast with crispy crackling. But given a little time, not to mention a deep, rich miso sauce, it can also be a fantastic braise. Here's how to make it: 900 g pork belly, cut into large (3 cm) cubes 3 tbsp ginger, cut into matchsticks 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped 2 large shallots (or 1 medium onion), finely chopped 2 cups water 1/2 cup shis...
Just Try To Resist This Addictive Pineapple Chicken

I'd bet most of you have heard about, if not eaten orange chicken. It's one of those "Chinese dishes" (and yes, the quotes are intentional) that's available almost everywhere mall food courts, fast food outlets, restaurants. But have you ever had pineapple chicken? In my opinion, it's better. Here's how to make it: 650 g chicken (breast or thigh), boneless and skinless 2 tbsp oyster sauce 4 tbs...
Quelle Surprise! This French Dish Is So Tasty Yet So Easy To Make
Переглядів 151Місяць тому
It was Bastille Day in France over the weekend, so I thought I'd whip up something to mark the occasion. The only requirements were that it had to be a dish that was fairly easy to put together and, of course, totally delicious. Poisson a la Bordelaise, or Bordeaux-style fish, definitely met the brief. Paired with a light salad and a nice bottle of wine (French, naturally), it made for an excel...
These Are The Cheesy Mashed Potatoes Of My Dreams

Mashed potatoes are pretty great on their own. But load 'em up with tangy, earthy manchego cheese and creamy garlic, and they transform into something truly special. Here's how to make it: 12 waxy yellow potatoes, peeled and halved 1 cup whole milk 6 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed 4 heap tbsp butter 300 g manchego cheese, grated (aged 12 months) 1. Drop the potatoes into a pot of liberally s...
Amazing Lemon Cheesecake In A Glass

I don't make dessert often, and when I do it has to meet 3 criteria: 1) it can't require baking, 2) it has to be virtually idiot-proof, 3) it has to be crazy delicious. With bonus points awarded for being unique. This no-bake, lemon-ginger cheesecake served in a glass tumbler exceeds all requirements. Here's how to make it: 125 g ginger cookies 3 to 4 tbsp melted butter 1 cup heavy cream 500 g ...

The best word I can think of to describe this dish is delightful. Plump, juicy prawns. Sweet cherry tomatoes that burst in your mouth. A lemony, garlicky herb butter sauce just begging to be mopped up with crusty bread. Delightful. Here's how to make it: 300 g medium to large prawns, shelled and deveined 1/4 tsp baking soda 4 tbsp unsalted butter, plus more for frying 1 shallot, finely chopped ...
Salmon Alfredo Fit For A Brock-Star

A couple of days ago I came across an old video interview of Brock Boeser, a player with my hometown Vancouver Canucks, in which he said his pre-game meal was a mix of alfredo, meat sauce and salmon. Now, all 3 together sounds...weird and slightly gross. But salmon alfredo, that's doable. So seeing as it's the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and my team's still in the fight, I thought ...

Mouthwatering Stir-Fries Are As Easy As 3-2-1
Переглядів 1204 місяці тому
Stir-fry is one of our go-to dinners, especially on busy weeknights. It's quick, it's budget-friendly, and it's totally customizable. The common denominator is my stir-fry sauce, which itself is also customizable. Note that my family likes our stir-fry saucy (more goodness for the rice!). If you want yours a little less sauce-heavy, just reserve some sauce for your next stir-fry. 3-2-1 SAUCE 3 ...

You know you truly love a dish when you happily make it twice in one week. That's how it was with me and this chicken paprikash. Note that the recipe below is only for 2 servings, so scale it up as necessary for your family. 4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on 1 small red onion, diced small 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup chicken stock 1 1/2 tbsp sweet paprika 1 1/2 tbsp hot (or smoked) paprika...

This weekend has been all about eggs in our house. Egg-hunts, painted eggs, chocolate eggs, mini eggs, hidden eggs. For a change, I thought I'd make baked eggs. Torta, Filipino-Style

I received a surprising request a couple of days ago from my niece, asking for this recipe. It was surprising because I assumed that every Filipino already knows how to make torta. It's a pretty simple recipe, after all. Thanks for your comment! Yes, that was intentional because I wanted the juices for gravy. Also, bistek's more a braise than a stir-fry, so caramelizing the meat isn't necessary. But that might be an interesting twist for the future. 🤔👍
