We're agricultural contractors and my videos are nearly all of our tractors and trucks with a few of models and full-sized machinery I have built over the years.
Cat with mounted mole drainer, using Trimble Rangepoint RTX #2
Using Trimble Rangepoint RTX with a Cat Challenger 75 and mounted mole drainer.
The implement is fitted with two video cameras, one showing the skids at the front to ensure the drainer is sitting down on the ground, and the other the state of the foot and expander when I lift out at the end - they aren't very visible from the driver's seat. The picture is shown on the little screen by my right elbow. The drainer also has a wheel which closes the slit - a big advantage if heavy rain is forecast as it prevents the new drain from becoming blocked before the slit is closed by ensuing cultivations. The wheel is actually a Cat mid-roller and is fitted with a Hardox scraper to prevent bunging up in sticky conditions. Its a new addition this year - 2018 - and is proving very successful (and popular with my customers).

Mole draining using Trimble EZ-Pilot steering system and Trimble FM750 screen using Rangepoint RTX, fitted to a Caterpillar Challenger 75. The mounted drainer is working at 24" deep with a 4" expander, and the drains are every 9'. RLE hit and miss model engine

The RLE yet again, from the cylinder head end. The valves are longer than specified to accommodate Red Wing valve springs, and the rocker arm is my own design.
RLE engine built from castings, with some modifications.

A model RLE IC engine I have just finished. Its running on Coleman fuel with 10% WD-40 and a drop of Ether added, and faster than I would like but weaker governor springs will cure that.

Unloading Cat Challenger 75.

Unloading the Challenger after a trip on a low-loader. On some trailers the front weight box hits the road, as it did here. Slight design fault, but I made it that height for convenience of loading spare mole blades etc, which is what I use it for.
Loading Cat Challenger 75 and mole drainer.

We use a low-loader to transport the Challenger for distances longer than a mile or two to save leaving too much rubber on the road. In this instance it was going from a job in Suffolk to another about 30 miles away in Norfolk. We reverse onto the trailer so the drainer sits up on the neck of the step-frame low-loader.

Moling in a water pipe with the Quad Trac
Переглядів 1 тис.9 років тому
Moling in an alkathene water pipe. Trencehes had been dug at the start and end of each pipe run, so the mole can be lowered into the open trench and pulled through to the next one, where the pipes can be connected. We were using a 4" expander with the pipe attached behind it, at 26" deep. When a full 100 metre coil of pipe has been pulled into the ground and detached from the mole its possible ...

hello hey hi hei farmandenton how are you today and how are you today and how are you today doing guys i want that you bring this ihc mogul 10-20 back in 2028 and make a superlong video for me in hiqh quality and please don't sale it
Where is this truck now?
We sold it in 2000 and have lost touch with it now. Sorry.
🙂🙂🙂🙂
FORD N AURAIT JAMAIS DÛ S ARRÊTÉ DE FABRIQUER DES TRACTEURS
Wow
That bed is filthy is got so much poo left in it and you just quite happily left it for your horses to lie in it and when you got the wee out you just spread it in the other bedding
I expect that is why Megazorb is our most popular bedding! If you think my beds are filthy come and have a look. Oh, and while you are here I'll teach you how to use punctuation.
Did they make their own engines, or is that an old Harley in there?
I couldn't follow the range shift, is it done with switch near steering wheel or has this transmission double H shift pattern?
(AKA Manorfarmdenton) Its the double H pattern. You knock the gear-lever to the left for low range and to the right for high.
@@johnfearnley7712 Ok, thanks. I have never driven truck with ZF transmission so I don't know what kind of setups they use. Sometimes there are strange setups, for example in 15-speed Fuller deep reduction range switch can be mounted on dashboard instead of locating it in main shift lever. :-)
@@A77uros We had several different gearboxes - Eaton Twinsplit, Fuller etc - and a number of trucks with ZF transmissions in various forms. We always found the ZF ones to be very reliable. One 220-36 with 16-speed ZF covered over a million K without the gearbox being touched. Re. the range-change on the dashboard, I think we once hired a Volvo F10 which had that - or was it the splitter? Can't remember! John.
@@johnfearnley7712 Can we say that double H shift pattern gives illusion of shifting 8-speed main gearbox although in reality you shift through 4 main gears twice, first in low range and then in high range? (Of course there is some gear skipping in lower gears in everyday use.)
@@A77uros Yes that's right - its 4 gears and a range-change activated by moving the gear-lever sideways. Left (when in neutral) to change into low range and right to change into high. No, you don't need to use them all, in fact I only remember using 1-low once in the 10 years we operated a 220-36. John.
it seems to be a rather complicated machine to drive.
They could give unit a good wash
Anymore pictures or videos of them working ?
Ryan - where are you? I might have some more photos and vid. - I'll look. I can't remember where I took this video, but it was my drivers in them - Gerry Brock in the 4500 and Denny Snelling in the 2500. I think :o) John.
Manorfarmdenton we are in Hemsby my grandad Ray Lawes drove these for agri tek then him and my dad bought them and traded as swift spreaders for years , that would be great if you had pictures and videos
@@ryanlawes43 I think I might even have made a video when your grandfather was driving. It was on a farm near Holt and Agritek had asked me to make a film showing how much more even the spread from the body we built was, compared with the one on the 4500 which had been modified to unload by ram with one big shredder at the back rather than the two we used. Unfortunately I lent it to John Bos in Holland and never had it back.
@@johnfearnley7712 I’ll speak with my father he may know more ! That’s such a shame that you don’t have the video, I have pictures of me in the 4500 as a child
@@ryanlawes43 I'll be interested to hear what your father has to say Ryan. All the best, John.
Heyya I think my family bought these exact machines , might even be them working in them on the video
take it easy on that shifter BOY!!!!!
Thats a Hoyt-Clagwell, who you trying to kid. They are hard to come by. The Hoyt-Clagwell company went out of business 80 years ago, because Mrs. Hoyt and Mrs. Clagwell couldn't get along. Since then, Hoyt went into the wax fruit business, and Clagwell went to the county seat.
Any 1 can do that on private land like this air strip
Look mum no hands! 😂🤣😜
you really do not know how to do a horse bed at all you let horse poo in they bed and put new beding on top of it you are blood kid me if they was my horses i would say to you get the fuck out of my horses stables now and this is why i do not let people do my horses beds at all
Whether or not you agree with me, why on earth do you need to be so aggressive! I'm tempted to remove your comment but will leave it to show how rude you are, whoever you are! I suggest you learn some manners, and not least learn to use the English language correctly!
Nice piece of engineering John. Glad to see it running.
Thank you Janet!
Yes its very rare Joe. This is the only one I have ever seen too. John.
Wow that's a rare and lovely tractor, never even saw one while they were still in production
that truck just screams pull me for the police and vosa it hasn't seen a wash in a long time by the look of it so they would check to see if its bn kept roadworthy its a grubber us we say in north east scotland lol
Come on Ian, it was January in Norfolk! :o) Wherever you went you were driving through a shower of s...e. Plus we were the only ones working as it was Christmas so it hadn't had a wash since it was up the road in December! It had regular checks and never failed a test or roadside stop. The only time I had trouble was on the A19 between York and Thirsk, when I was driving with wife in passenger seat and was stopped for routine check. I had ammonia in the trailer but no hazchem certificate - didn't need one as my wife/co-driver had one - but the man from the ministry didn't know the law and went ballistic. He was wrong and we were right though, as they admitted after a lot of arguing! John.
i doj. appoligise didn't know it was that time of year please accept my utmost appoligies I musta bn in a bad humour and took it out on yourselves I feel very humble now . on the gd side those ivecos are gd wagons hardy engines wiring could be a issue sometimes and rust byt in those days paint wasn't as gd as nowadays ,I hope your gd today take care
Don't care about the turning circul would swap the misses and kids for that tractor
She got in the cab from the wrong side.
She got in the side the steering wheel was on. It helps to be that side if you're steering..........
That's a very unique sound. I like it.
You guys have all the cool stuff. I'd like to see more of the packer/press system on the back of that tool. Also the wing fold looks awesome. In my area, though it is not law yet to have tools so narrow as your area, it is coming, and we do have some narrow roads to travel.
The Tinemaster was a good tool and we thought we'd be able to keep it busy, but all our customers wanted a Sumo! The packer ring was different on the Sumo and although you couldn't really see any difference in the finished job, we couldn't get anyone to accept the Tinemaster. It was a big mistake - we paid a dealer £18K for it second-hand, only used it a couple of times, and after it had stood about for two or three years sold it again for £6K! Not one of our better schemes. Transporting it was a bit hairy as when folded it was as tall as it was wide, and rocked from side frighteningly. It didn't help that the wheels weren't opposite on another, the pair on one side being ahead of the ones on the other. Another problem it had was that if it was lowered right down when folded there wasn't enough pressure in the STX hydraulics to get it up off the ground! It needed larger bore rams on the wheels presumably, as there wasn't anything wrong with the STX pressure.
That worked fantastic. How many meters did you put in in all? The mole had very little blow out being so wet, and quad was able to support you on the wet soil.
I think we pulled in three 100m coils altogether. My brother-in-law (feeding in the pipe - we were doing it for him) had already dug trenches where the joins were to be, so all we had to do was pull the mole into the trenches.

Love the sound of that three wheeler.
Doesn't it sound the business! Rickel changed to Cummins in later models though. Do GM still make the two-strokes? The only one I have now is the 3-71 in my Chamberlain Super 90. The three-wheeler would pull a wheelie at traffic lights when empty. Gave a few cars a shock when they thought they'd beat it away from the lights.
Ha !! When one can amaze another at a stop light with a bit of farm kit, it is a good day. I believe all 2 stroke "jimmies" were discontinued. A few of them one can still get rebuild kits for, but some of the more popular configurations, the kits are pretty much gone unless you know an old time mechanic that has the right connections.
What a shame - I don't think they were particularly inefficient fuel-wise were they? Nothing else sounds quite like one in my experience, although the 2-stroke Foden FD6 that I drove in the Sixties came close! I have to agree with another commenter that the noise is a bit tiresome if you're working with it though. I also agree that having a straight pipe instead of the muffler makes almost no difference to the noise the Chamberlain makes. Re. spares, I got a water pump for the 3-71 from the States a couple of years ago with no problem.
I was upset with this video. just as I was about to enjoy the ride it finish good video though
Hello, what did you feed them, it looks delicious!
Nice video i've got my truck license on a Iveco turbostar 190-33 back in 1987, i loved those trucks but they are very rare now. Is Rosie still a truck driver?
nice and smooth driving
I just found a new born american robin bird, I would like to know how many times a day I should feed him and what to feed him? please get back to me.
What does the mole plough do is it similar to a vripper
only one reverse light working. but still ok
is very cool lol foque

I remember seeing that article in Classic Tractor - do you have any video of the snoopy at work?
you left lots of poo in your horse bed when you mucked out i don,t leave any
Good video how heavy was the trailer
Thanks. The ammonia liquor had an SG of 0.9, so 27,000 litres weighed 24300 kg. I can't remember what the trailer tare was but would guess around 6 tonnes. The 220-36 was just under 8 tonnes (I think) making the gross weight around the legal limit at the time of 38 tonnes. We loaded on a weighbridge so got the weight spot on.
Thank you great explanation, makes sense.
Hi, what exactly is mole ploughing for? To improve drainage? And what is the small keyring type attachment on the rear edge of the blade? Thanks
The drainer makes a tube through the clay subsoil which if conditions are right is almost like a glazed pipe. Normal depth is 24" to the top of the mole, which channels the ground water into the shingle fill over the field drains. Its normally done at 90 degrees to the way the drains run, and every 6 feet or 9 feet. The metal foot (bullet) on the bottom of the blade is around 3" diameter and the ceramic expander (key ring) is 4" diameter, and its the latter compressing the subsoil that forms the tube.
I have a photo of some of my family running one of these tractors when they lived and farmed in KS. any idea what years these tractors were made?
This one was built in 1926 I think.
what is the switch on the shift level she keep playing with I think I can hear the engine change sound everything she made it click?. (I drove a 5 speed stick high /low range transmission military truck not up to speed on all this fancy stuff they have now days.
Hi John. Its the splitter. The ZF Ecosplit box has 4 forward and 1 reverse on the gearlever, then a high-low range change controlled by knocking the lever right across the gate (left for low, right for high) then in each of those 8 gears the splitter gives high and low. You don't normally need to use every gear, but I asked her to for the vid. We had those boxes in several trucks and they never gave any trouble.
Thanks
Manorfarmdenton Thanks for the info
What an old gem!!....runs and sounds really good.......
Yes!!! <3
I've only once driven av Iveco 320.26 (?) and it was otherwise nice but for it's Twin Splitter box which the salesgirl wasn't able to drive. Great brakes, powerful engine and a responsive steering. We had it in the company for ""tests" for about a month. There were two drivers and me (a freight co-ordinator) who could get it moving. Boy, was it fast!
The Eaton Twin Split is an acquired taste! I have seen experienced ( on other boxes) drivers grind to a halt while looking for the next gear! I've heard it said that the Twin Split doesn't have 12 forward gears, it has 13 neutrals!

You must be having a joke using that tractor on that mole plough, lol
Looks like someone ran the belt pto into a tree or something.
