Making time to write helps me to make sense of the world we live in. I love the tactile experience of holding a book as I read or feeling comfortable with seeing them on my shelves.
Alongside the process and craft of writing I like to explore the themes which pop up most in my own books. Some of my books are around Personal Budgeting, Household Finance and the place for Frugality. Others focus on Declutter and Simple Self Help.
Some of my ASMR videos feature either walkabout tours or static camera videos of towns or cities I love (Mexico City, Oxford, Scarborough, Whitby, etc). These are included to share the atmosphere of places where I love to write.

ASMR Writing Places : COVENT GARDEN, LONDON #asmrwriting #writinglife #writingplaces
I love the background sounds of a city street, urban park or a busy coffee shop. Such noises help me greatly and serve as a white noise that I can write through with ease.
This video I recorded late one afternoon in the ever changing, constantly improving Covent Garden area of central London. I was there for two days of the Self Publishing Show where I got the chance to mix and chat with other authors, but also to listen to some fascinating talks from a good range of speakers.
Enjoy this and others of my ASMR Writing Places video series. Pop them on in the background as you write. Let the sounds be part of your writing space as you work on your own manuscript or story.

The conference was great. 22 speakers over two days. A first night party with live band and plentiful drinks. Multiple industry partner stalls and so much great content shared across the event. But my goodness, the freebies! I arrived with just a notebook and pen, but came away with a couple of tote bags filled with treats. Reedsy gave me a hardback copy of Ricardo Fayet’s book “Amazon Ads for ...

It might be that you prefer this approach to the managing and handling of your audio content. Perfect video snippet Nick!!!! Tin Tin is a fav of mine, and next to that superb travel wrist bag, with a fountain pen and paper.....brilliant!! Thanks for this :)
@@barrysanaloginsights For sure! And great mussels in a white wine sauce
Covent Garden is always an interesting place to visit. Last time I was there it was the Moomin shop I enjoyed :))
I wish you "Happy Keyboarding!"💙🖥⌨💻
Probably, using the Alphasmart Neo is better than using a typewriter, as for typing on the keyboard.

Beautiful colourful shot with great atmospheric music. It's one of those shorts you can just leave on repeat! :)
Saltaire is lovely, have visited many times. There used to be a ‘ pay as much as you can afford ‘ charity cafe there I once visited, I wonder if it’s the same place?
@@Dave-zn3gf Evening Dave. Yes, Cultures occupies that same venue. Almost ten years ago we ate sometimes in that former incarnation. Saltaire is a short train ride from home and I love to visit. One of my walkabout videos here on the channel features Saltaire.
Lovely!!
Thank you for sharing this Nick. I too have struggled with Amazon Ads. I have tried seven or eight times and there were no results. I have tried to follow their (complicated) advice online but have given up now. I hope you find the free Amazon Ads book is much clearer and that you can make the ads work to your advantage. Lovely lot of freebies - ALMOST worth flying in from Mexico for... - and I love the tee shirt's slogan, 'I'm not quiet, I'm plotting' 🙂. Do let us know if you can work the Amazon Ad maze out won't you?
As always, this is so helpful and motivating, Nick. It really is encouraging to see how you track progress and income, and how perhaps I can add that approach to my system; just waiting for delivery of a Filofax ZIP Personal, which I haven't used for a while for productivity, so will see if I can do something with that. Looking forward to your fiction book(s) :)
Hi Barry, Glad you like this one. I seem to get more traction on these month review videos and so the tracking of the habits and activity seems to be of interest. Certainly, they are different from what I had thought to be creating when I started the channel more focussed on the writing life, but combining the tracking with things such as my time invested in reading or the time spent on a writing project, these seem to be well received.
@@nicksturgeonbooks @nicksturgeonbooks That's interesting. Another couple of channels I follow also show their tracking in a similar way, and those videos are always among their most viewed.
I'd love to be part of that company! :) I've been voiceovering for many years, and it's a great business to be in. This was very interesting; thanks for recording it.
Glad you enjoyed it Barry. Consider registering with Quest, but also ACX and Findaway Voices. FW is now a part of the Spotify group
@@nicksturgeonbooks Top tips! Thank you Nick.
Steve is a terrific writer, incredible model for all indies, and a helluva good guy. I expect we will soon see a tv show or movie from one of his books.

Thank you, Nick! You really are a great encouragement and influence. I've even just bought the same Faber Castell pen and, as you've said, it is indeed a lovely writing experience, for such a great price too :) Thanks again and take care! Barry
Nick, Thank you for the positive videos. I really enjoy listening to you describe the countryside and the places that you visit. The train ride sounds like a bit of heavan on earth to me. I am currenly reading Anna Karenina and I am enjoying it very much.
Hello Bam. Anna Karenina is rich with the train station as the place where she meets Vronsky and the influence of the railway is very strong. I read it decades ago, but it isna tempting suggestion. Perhaps after I have read Conrad's 'The Secret Agent' that I mentioned in the video.
Stay positive and keep shining! ☀️
Thanks for sharing
Good morning earthabdcesong. What are you currently reading? Nick
Hi Nick😊 I'm reading Adam Grant's Think Again, and also children's books like Pinocchio and A Perfect Time for Pandas (Magic Tree House series). The former one for knowledge and the latter ones for leisure. 😊
@nicksturgeonbooks good morning to you from Minnesota. I generally read more than one book at a time. I'm currently reading The Last Full Measure: The Life and Death of the First Minnesota Volunteers, The Intentional Father by Jon Tyson, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (This is my first time reading the HP books)
@1517hutzel HP! I'm planning to read it, too! I bought the first 4 books of HP series from Plymouth, the UK, back in 2000, but didn't read past the first 5 chapters of book 1 🙈😅😅 ... Will you read it alongside some audiobook track? I'm about to do so.
@@4061earthabcdesong so far, no. However, that sounds like a good idea.
Well done Nick 🎉

Muy interesante este contenido, muchas gracias por compartirlo.
I recently welcomed an AlphaSmart 2000 into my life, eager to tap away at its keys and unleash my creativity. But fate had other plans. Just as I was getting acquainted with my new companion, a morning mishap sent it tumbling from the bed to its untimely demise. It was a brief but beautiful journey. Undeterred, I’ve now turned to the AlphaSmart NEO, a worthy successor with its sleek design and robust build. I chose the NEO not just for its durability, but also for its distraction-free environment that promises to keep my creative flow uninterrupted. Plus, the addition of a data cable ensures that not a single word of my stories will be lost in translation. As I embark on this new chapter, I’m filled with excitement for the tales yet to be told and the characters waiting to come alive under my fingertips. Stay tuned for the adventures that lie ahead with my NEO!
Good afternoon Reiana, so good to hear about your new constant companionship with the NEO! Such a great and reliable keyboard from which to write happily in pretty much any environment. Have a look at Andrea's comments here from a few days ago, where she uses a cable to connect her AS with a notes programme within her phone. I had never even thought of that and love the idea. If I take my NEO to the coffee shop or the library, my MacBook Air and transfer cable stay home and I transfer the file easily when I return. Either way, we are all fans and users of this remarkable device, here to make our writing process easier.
THIS is the setup I've been searching for to help me get back on track (no pun intended). Will pay a visit to Rymans tomorrow, Lord willing, to get myself one of their large notebooks for my anchor journal - can't wait to set it up! Thanks, Nick!
Glad it helped. The great thing about a blank journal or note format is that you get to work with a different format each month until you find what works best for you.
Love looking at old books :) Every place I visit I always look for an old bookshop to check out - the Oxfam bookshops have some great selections in them too, including Penguin ones, which in the past I've glanced at, but you've piqued my interest to spend a little extra time reviewing them! Thanks for sharing a part of your collection.

I also use mine and if I don’t have my laptop at hand I connect the AS to my smartphone and send it directly to word…
Great idea! I never thought about sending one of the 8 files direct to my android phone. Genius!
Very interesting video - I stumbled upon it thanks to UA-cam, and am glad I did. Francois's note is a treasure. I've subscribed.
Thanks Cind. Yes, it is nice to pick these things up and be surprised at what we find. Since the video I have actually been using the Filofax very regularly.
Oh my god... I press play because of title, but then a Kaweco and a Neo2!!! I already like you!
Good evening Andrea :) I laughed out loud at your comment here. Yes indeed! A Kaweco and an Alphasmart. BTW if you like the Neo there are a couple of videos on the channel about the Alphasmart in particular, but I also reference it in multiple videos as being a great productivity tool. Glad you are here. Enjoy the videos and of course the regular newsletter 'Notes from the Desk'. Nick
Always love hearing the sound of the sea. Just taken delivery of a new Filofax to store some writing ideas, so will have this video on now as I customise it and make it mine :) Thank you for this! God bless!
Good evening Barry. Lovely to hear that you have the new Filofax. Since I recorded the video last week I have been enjoying looking through my stock room and finding little packets of lined and blank sheets to put into the slimmer of the ones I have kept. But also glad to know you are enjoying this video. I decided to upload it without ads as I think it is much nicer this way, giving yourself two hours without distraction.
It's very relaxing indeed! :) Have finished Filofax setup, now on to Castelli Milano notebook organisation for taking meeting notes, jotting down ideas and processes. I use A5 size and they are beautiful notebooks; fountain pen bleed is a little worse than others, but I actually quite like it :) My current writing tools are Lamy Safaris - gun metal blue and burnt orange - and Blackwing 602 pencils that I've used for years and are simply the best!

Really interesting viewing. I liked the address book with your old school. I lived next to the comprehensive for a few years in the 80’s and used to play around the school grounds.
Can I ask what make that wrist bag is? Very useful
Hello Jay. Can't help you there. I bought in Mexico City in the early 1980's. I've seen plenty of similar bags in trips to Portugal, Spain, Italy and in Belgium. I featured the bag strongly in a video a couple of months ago, called my Every Day Carry. Hope you enjoy it. Nick
Love that tucked in ephemera with a note from Francois. Such a treasure to keep. 💙
Good evening Davao. Thanks for your comment. Yes, after recording the video I went online to find the car that I had that lift in with Francois down to Bordeaux. It was a lovely Citroen with a massive cabin and red dashboard lighting.
Great video. The company I worked for in the mid 90's supplied a Franklin Planner. Man I had arrived packing that beast around everywhere I went. Haha! About once every few years I flip through my diary and journal collection. They hold alot of memories. I really appreciate you sharing your experiences with us. Have a great week!
Thanks Steve. I love the structure that Franklin Covey have given us with their pages.
Paper all the way for me. Writing as opposed to typing feels so much more fulfilling. And don't get me started on tick-lists! 🙂
Thank you JT. Very tempted to ask you about the tick lists. It sounds as though there are some fascinating personal stories tied up in that comment :) Nick

Thank you Maria. Very kind of you to say so. Nick
Wow, brilliant, humbling. Thanks for sharing your life experience and notebooks with us. Its nice going to our past every once in a while without having to charge or stare at a screen for a long time.
Yes indeed. I like to try and limit screen time to just a few hours each day and am happy with that. I tend not to send or read email using my phone and only check it every couple of days. Using the journals and the Filofax products is where I find an easy way of self-expression and also bringing my thoughts together..
very powerful moment. It shows the layers a journal can provide if you keep one. lovely!
Hello Kickrocks. Sorry I haven't got round to replying before this evening, but really appreciate you taking the time to comment. It does matter and it is special to read such comments. Keeping a journal has always been a very special practise, serving as both useful and enjoyable.
Thank you for sharing your analog history. What a delightful, beautiful stroll down memory lane! I'm from around the same time period, but we used Franklin Covey (which has been enjoying a renaissance recently - what goes around, comes around). Today I use a hybrid analog/digital system, but I'll always be a PlannerGirl at heart. The affirmations and notes, etc you collected would probably find their way into a commonplace book today. Such an incredible legacy for your family. Thanks again for sharing with us.
Thank you Mae. I think we have it good with our understanding of defining projects, managing a diary and planning with paper and ink. Franklin Covey served me so very well for at least 15 years. I still use their Compass Cards each month for a focus on my core roles and a reminder of What Matters Most.
As an independent contractor, I used a Filofax for decades. There was usually a mad dash to the stationery store in the week between Christmas and New Year’s to purchase the insert for the upcoming year so that I could claim it as a home office deduction for the current year. Now in retirement I still use a “hard copy” notebook, albeit a much larger one (eyesight not being as acute). I use a Franklin Covey zippered affair that houses both standard US size printer paper (cut in half) and Universal A5. I’ve kept all my previous notebooks, as well as - and you’ll love this - an original IBM leather-bound Think Pad from the 1960s. It still has many unused pages.
Good afternoon Cathy. You're right! I do love the IBM reference. They were the best employer I ever had and I learned so many good processes while with them in the UK at their North Harbour site just off Portsmouth island. Franklin Covey was my move from the Filofax usage of the 1980's and until the late 1990s. Hyrum Smith and Stephen Cover worked well together and Hyrum's book Time and Life Management remains a steady inspiration for me. Thanks for taking the time to comment here. Nick
This video showcasing your Filofaxes was so intriguing. It tells such a life story. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Tiffany. Glad you enjoyed it. It was a joy to record. I have been amazed by the response. Nick
Lol! I'm using my old Filofax as a notebook, too. I even purchased a fountain pen.
Morning to you Deb. Great idea about using your Filofax as a notebook. I'm going to see quite how many stationery packs I have and look at combining these into one good size Filofax for jotting down ideas and contact details
They’re still more useful for organizing information than phones. They don’t go dark when you’re using them and don’t require charging or passwords. Plus I can add info lickety split compared to my phone.
Good morning Christine. Yes indeed, paper and pen is quite good enough for capturing and saving information
So true! I use an A5 ring binder for my note taking and I use all different types of papers - it’s so easy to customise.
can relate to those!!
Hello Evangelia. Have you got a Filofax that you still use? Perhaps a nice address book you keep aside from pc or phone based contact screens?
@@nicksturgeonbooks I have an older version of a filofax like ring binder which I use for disposable to do lists. I have no address book, I never had one, still relying on memory. I think as I grow older I have to write more things down, telepone numbers and adresses on a small notebook. I almost fainted when I lost my mobile phone!!
I enjoyed this Nick. I haven't read the Laurie Lee 'A Rose for Winter' but after your description, it is definitely going on my 'to read' list. I had/have the same problem as you in book accumulation - and luckily found a local bookshop which had just opened and they bought a lot of my books at a good price. You mentioned Three Men in a Boat. It is one of the comic gems of English literature. I have two copies (must get rid of one...) and read it every few years to cheer myself up. Like you said, that's the thing about books, they each bring back a particular memory, which is why I have such a hard time getting rid of any!
