I had to laugh at your Stephen King comments. I adore his books and have read each multiple times. But The Dark Tower series? Would you believe I struggled all the way through until a third of the way through the final book and said NOPE, enough and DNFd it.

Over here in the states, varifocals are called progressives. I love them! You may find you adapt to them very quickly! Currently reading Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. I know it has good reviews, but I’m not loving it - not hating it either, just meh. Not a likable character in the whole lot. 😖 But definitely will finish.

I tried varifocals and hated them. It has been more phaff but I switch between distance glasses for driving/outdoors and glasses for mid-distance/screen display for work

Sectarian conflict was huge here in Canada from the early 1800s through to the 1960s. At one point, there were more Orange Lodges in Canada than in Northern Ireland itself. One of my ancestors was a leader of an Orange Lodge, I’m not proud to say.
