My Enchanted Journals
Australia
Приєднався 3 лип 2022
Hi I’m Di, a middle age woman with my own UA-cam channel.
I’m making these videos so my grandchildren and great-grandchildren etc etc will know who I was and what I liked & thought about etc instead of looking at a flat photo, like I do, of my family tree & not knowing much more about the generations before me ❤️
I also make beautiful hand-made art journals as well using cardboard, fabric, lace, doilies, digitals, old books, old passports, tin cans, tea bags, leaves and flowers from nature and vintage ephemera including old plane tickets, wallpaper, bus tickets, baggage claim stubs........I think you get the idea!!
If that sounds like your kind of thing then I hope you’ll join me as I work from my home studio in the South West of Western Australia, an Aladdin's cave or depository of the enchanted as I like to call it in a gorgeous craft room.
I hope you're happy creating and making things too.
You are very welcome here ❤️
Hugs

Extra embellishments for your art journal
Definitely not just you! I find that I destash, I have a couple months. Teaching a class helps. Because I don't feel like i'm wasting it.I just bring it to class, and we use it there. The only places in my house that are cluttered are my art areas. 😅
Well I am a newbie so I don’t have a large stash of anything. I also have very limited space. I am thinking that what you saved a long time ago maybe isn’t your style now? I need an “ organized” mess to be able to create anything. Good luck with the rest of your craft room!
You’re NOT a hoarder! I’m exactly like you: my house is immaculate, well organized, not a shred of clutter, everything in its place, BUT my craft room is… well… a bit of a mess… ok, let me be honest: it’s a mess! It seems my craft room belongs to a different house and to a different person. So, two conclusions: if you’re that organized like me in the rest of your house, you need a kind of “escape”, where you can be totally messy and chaotic and free and a bit crazy too; second, as artists, we tend to collect everything related to art supplies that we like, so it’s absolutely normal to have things we later don’t use. It’s even possible to find things after some months and think: “did I buy this? Is this actually mine?”😂 Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure that all artists are like that and I know for a fact that many don’t keep their home as organized as we do, so we’re in an advantage here!😂 I have to clean up my craft room every now and then otherwise I feel overwhelmed, because I’m a bit of a minimalist and I don’t like to have what I don’t need or use. Exactly like my clothes, if I don’t wear them, I have to donate them, or I go crazy 😂 So, you’re not alone, I’m sure and rest assured: all artists are seen as a bit insane, because most people are used to what the majority does and tend to judge the minority. There’s a quote from Nietzsche that says the following: “And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn’t hear the music”! Remember, Di, most people can’t hear the music 🎶 💙❤️💜🩵💚🤎💛🩷🩶🧡♥️ Sorry for the long message 🤭🙏🏻

I’m a bit astonished at how afraid of the blank page artists can be.
@@ladyflimflam Yes, I guess some of us are a bit afraid of a blank page! I just like having something on the page when I start even if I end up covering it over. Thanks so much for leaving me a comment ❤️
That's funny that the first time I heard about Montreuil flea market was while talking with you.... Now seeing what you found there, I need to go there. Did you go early in the morning ? Can't wait to see the next video ! ^^
@@isabellebernard7876 thanks, Isabelle, it’s a great flea market! I think its on Saturday, Sunday & Monday’s. Hope you find some bargains ❤️
This is so good. I did mine a different way. It wasn't a sewen signature one. I pulled out about 5 pages and glued the pages together to hide where it was torn. However, when it's closed, it doesn't sit straight. The front goes forward. Next time, I will look for a signature one and try it your way.
@@julieparker1114 thanks for sharing that, Julie. It truly is trial and error, believe me, I’ve tried so many different ways! Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment ❤️

@@julieparker1114 there’s quite a few Aussies finding me now!!! Welcome, Julie 🤗 I’m glad you like the tea-bag journal, they’re so easy to make and I love the patina on t-bags ❤️
You found gold! So fun to see a Paris flea market that you always hear about. My favorite piece was the box full of stamps! Thanx for sharing!
@@heyjude85 hi Jude, it was definitely great fun! Just wish I spoke French 😂😂
Really love all the things you purchased , would love to do a day browsing at any flea market. When you purchase something old, mostly books, do they have a musty smell ( from storage in damp places) and what do you do to get the smell out?
@@normaschurman2202 hi Norma, the flea markets were awesome! Some books do. I have tried airing them in the sunshine or put them in a plastic bag in the freezer for 48hrs (make sure the plastic bag is sealed!) Good luck and thanks for leaving me a comment ❤️
Hiiiiii lovelies 😉 Part 2 of my Paris flea market tours, boy! It was so much fun. The variety was amazing and I just love rummaging 😂 this was more like what I imagined the flea markets to be like, let me know if you’ve been or have something similar near you, see ya in the video ❤
I could spend days in a place like that! We have that in Lisbon, but not where I live, and I know they take advantage on tourists. However, as secondhand things are now a trend, everything is too expensive, I think, for the real value it may have. That velvet purse was my favourite! But everything you bought is really, really great 💙🤎♥️🩷💚🧡💛🩵❤️🩶💜❤️
@@alexandraalmeida3661 thank you, Alexandra, I loved it. I know a LOT of antique dealers go to the flea markets the world over and the vendors are now wise to it all I guess! If I had these near me I’d go each weekend and then I think they’d be used to seeing you. It was amazing to see the variety and so many postcards but not a lot of old documents, if I go again to France I’d go out in to the country more❤️
Well, I, for one, just LOVE you, Di, and all that you are sharing with us!!! I think you are a gorgeous woman, inside and out. 😊 I only just found you, and am thankful that you have a ton of videos for me to enjoy over time. Thank you for all that you do. 🎉 You are a delight to my ears and eyes. I've been repurposing old books into art journals for a few years, but never knew the trick of using what we call 'freezer paper' in Canada, between gessoed pages, enabling to keep working on pages and not needing to wait for each to dry before moving on to the next. What a time saver!! And, no break in creative flow. beautiful.❤ I haven't found your video on your house flooding, how awful for you to experience that, heartbreaking and soooo much work too!! Glad it's mostly behind you... Bless you, Di, and your channel xo
p.s. Just back from thrift shop with 2 old books for repurposing to art journal... you have certainly inspired me 😊 thank you sweet pea!
@@micheleswiderski7080 hiiii Michele, what a lovely message, thank you so much!! 😊 I’m so glad what I’m saying is resonating with other like-minded people like you, I think there’s a lot of us out there that are tired of “young influencers” that have no relevance to how we look or think!!! Beautiful, beautiful treasures! I love old postcards. My mother had lots of them, but for some unfortunate reasons I couldn’t keep them. I also loved the religious pieces. I wish I had those flea markets where I live ❤️💙💚🤎🩵💜🧡🩷🩶💛♥️
@@alexandraalmeida3661 the postcards are so lovely, Alexandra. They are almost too good to use I just love looking at them, like small pieces of art. The shrines and crosses are stunning, so much work has gone in to them.
