Have you tried quilting thread? It’s pretty tough and comes in tons of variegated colors that are super pretty as well as tons more solid colors that you can use!

Re: alternative threads. You might have better luck finding it online than in person but i find that tatting thread works well for micro crochet and does come as thin as sewing thread. The kind i like and that is fairly popular with tatting is by a company called Lizbeth. Its mercerized cotton so no fluff, has good sheen, is very durable and holds up well. Aunt Lydias crochet thread is a good one to look out for. Also Mercerized cotton is almost on par with synthetics when it comes to durability and ive gotta say having used sythetics vs cotton i really prefer cotton for crocheting tiny things

I'm working on a mini gnome with a Christmas tree hat for my son using 10 thread and will be making the micro mini ornaments for the tree decorations! I have one suggestion for you is to try the "invisible weave" for your last stitches...it makes them neater and more secure. Thank you!!!
