Musing With Reba
Приєднався 12 жов 2011
Hello everybody! I'm just an average Gen-Xer trying to get through this crazy thing called life! I really enjoy backpacking, and hiking and camping and I really wish I could get out and do those things more often, but lack of motorized vehicle and this ongoing pandemic have put a crimp in things! BUT! That doesn't stop me entirely from getting in as much adventure as I can!
I like to be an inspiration to other women of my age who feel like they are "too old", or women in general who think "I can't do that!" and well, of course you can! Some folks have even told me "you can't do that!" and I say "yeah! Watch me!" And then I started a UA-cam channel so they could :)

Halloween Cemetery Tour - Carbonear, Newfoundland - First of a Double Feature
I have recently moved to Carbonear Newfoundland, from Toronto, Ontario, and I went for a wander around my local cemetery. It's so local, I can see it from my living room window!
Happy Halloween!

this trail was not nearly as difficult as the Biscan Path on the ECT we did the week prior. It was a beautiful day, but really windy, and the trail is quite exposed. There is no water sources, so take lots of water! www.alltrails.com/trail/canada/newfoundland-and-labrador/shoreline-heritage-walk-madrock-trail

How I spent my 4 day long weekend in May - part 1
Looks like so much fun! My boys would like these type of festivities.
@katanaguttman4063 it was fun despite the weather. The kids who were there seemed to be enjoying it too, but they're hardy Newfoundlanders, and they're used to the conditions.
@musingwithreba9667 Has it been mostly the wind so far that is much stronger, making it feel different than here for this time of year? Over here we've been having more dry and sunny, warmer days than usual. It's been more windy days than usual for us but I'm sure not the same type of strong winds you are getting over there!
@katanaguttman4063 it's only windy on days that end in "Y" 😉 but the rain and sleet and hail this week was just crazy!
@musingwithreba9667 Ah I see, regular hail ans sleet would be rough to take over and over again!
@katanaguttman4063 mostly its rain, but the past week was just weird, even the locals said do.
What if it's not a sink hole? What if someone was trying to get out? 😱🧟
@@chrissiewb721 or what if they ALREADY got out!? 🤯🧟♀️
Happy Halloween! I can't believe that was Cindy-Lou's first zombie walk! 🧟♀️
@@chrissiewb721 I know! But Toronto hasn't had a zombie walk for a long time now, so we had to move here for it! 😁
That was some wet, spooky fun 🧟
@@TerressaZook wet is right! And cold 🥶 🧟♀️
I love cemeteries too.
@@TerressaZook we are true kindred spirits ❤️
Change the harness. Dont worry about your dog pulling. Shes helping you. She loves helping you.
@@lifesahobby she's not helping so much if she pulls so much that I fall! 🤣 The harness she had on that day connects to her backpack.
Did the little pond look ❤ shaped? There is one somewhere in NL. You'll have to look for it. Cool lighthouse! Funny to encounter a goat on the trail!
@chrissiewb721 I don't know if it is heart-shaped. I'd have to get a drone (or take a ride in that helicopter). I would like to get a drone, but they're very spendy 🤑, and I'm only working part-time minimum wage now, so I won't have one anytime soon. I like goats. Cindy-Lou seemed to really like her, too. The couple said they had another Frenchie and another goat at home, too. I imagine the goat enjoys the trail a lot. 😊
You are so lucky to have all of these beautiful hiking trails close to your new home! Amazing how the trail terrain resembles mountain trais(although NFLD is relatively flat compared to Colorado 14ers, but the trail ground cover is virtually the same). I wish I was there with you doing these hikes with the peace, quiet and beautiful scenery, unlike the stress filled loud GTA!
@katanaguttman4063 well dump the boys somewhere, and hop in the car 😉 I have a spare room. I've never been hiking in Colorado, tho I've been there many many times for work in a previous life. Maybe someday. So many trails, so little time! And money 😕
@@musingwithreba9667 I'd love to come visit you and Cindy Lou at some point outside of the winter season. I'd hop on a plane though....don't think me or my car could make a long distance drive like that in one piece.🤣
@@katanaguttman4063 it is a rather long drive!
great hike.

I don't know who enjoys these walks more, you or Cindy Lou 😅 I know I enjoy them ❣️
@TerressaZook Aaww, thank you Terressa 😊 ❤️ we all enjoy them.
We even dance to Rock Cake.
We share. Co-op is about agriculture and grain. Saskatchewan is the most important of me. A twileght on the trail.
@perrycomeau2627 I have celiac disease so wheat crops are not very important to me 😉
I love Saskatchewan. It saved my life.

@@chrissiewb721 there's an idea!
Nice view! That bench was at best a 9.6!
@chrissiewb721 Cindy-Lou said 9.8. She usually always gives a full 10 unless she falls in between the boards 😏
Ohh also Reba, we have the healthiest bee population and the cleanest air in North America. Go Newf!
@@candytoo3729 Do you know of any local honey bee keepers where I can get some honey?
@@musingwithreba9667 Try Paradise Farms. Also the Farmers Market in St. John's as well as Belbin's in The Goulds. Belbin's specializes in Newfoundland products. Rock solid spot. Even get local butter there!
@@candytoo3729 awesome thanks for the tips! 😊
Newfie here Reba. Welcome to the Rock! There are no snakes here either or crickets. Lots of wildlife where I am just outside of Clarenville. Fox, sea otters and we see lots of whales from our deck. Enjoying your content.
@candytoo3729 OMG I hadn't even noticed there's no crickets! That's weird. But I haven't had a chance to go camping yet, and that's usually when I hear them in Ontario. I haven't been up by Clarenville yet. It's on the list. If only to take my van to the Honda dealer for service 😉
Wish you were here and I was there 😅 A slow, quiet life without a crush of people, living on island time, is the dream for me ❣️ 2009-2010, my husband and I lived on a 13 mile long, 8 mile wide barrier island, Pine Island, in S.W. Florida. I wish we had never left 😢 🕊️😀❤️ to you & Cindy Lou
@TerressaZook that sounds amazing! when I lived in NC, we visited Ocracoke and the other Outer Banks islands a few times, I LOVED Ocracoke! I kept trying to convince my then husband that we should move out there. With the stipulation that we'd be the first ones on the ferry to evacuate when a hurricane was coming! ☹️
Prayers and love from Australia we are watching and our thoughts are with the everyday people. Thanks for sharing.🇦🇺😎❤️🙏🙏❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

First you need a copy of the map with the big X on it. Then a metal detector and a shovel.

What a great hike my friend, this whole area looks amazing! Love it
@@ervinslens thank you! Yes, the whole area is absolutely gorgeous. There are so many trails still to explore 😁
Okay, now I'm just getting jealous of you 2 and all your neat places to walk so close to home 😜 I'd be tempted to move there, but I think the winters would literally kill me. My husband and I lived in SW Florida from 2000 - 2010. It was the best of times and the worst of times, (hurricane's). I read both article links you gave. May the wind be always at your back... HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU ❣️
@TerressaZook I'm told different stories about what to expect for winter here. I do know its typically warmer here than Toronto, but the amount of snow varies with the telling 🤣 I will definitely need to buy snow shovels, but I'm not sure if I'll need a plow on the front of my van or not 😉
Can you go back & get that green rock for me please? The one by the yellow rock, just to the right a bit...😊
@chrissiewb721 Sure, I'll go check to see if it's still there 👍

Neat dog park with the fire hydrants inside of the fenced in off leash area 😂 Yard work is hard work yet must feel great to have a nice yard after all the years of apartment living in T.O! The quick shot you got at night with the moon and house all lit up by generator while the power was out is very petty!

16:43 very steep cliff. Pretty view though!
@chrissiewb721 there are A LOT of very steep cliffs here on The Rock
Looks like a lovely hike with absolutely beautiful scenery! This trail, resembles trails in the Colorado rockies the patterns the trails make, jagid rocks, talus and scree. Only thing missing is mountains surrounding the trail(s). This one looks like a trail I might be able to do? The ECT sections you've done so far, looks like it may be too tough for me... Plus looks like good weather, despite the wind! We are having dry sunny weather, though getting very hot; next week over 30C humidiix highs are being predicted!
@katanaguttman4063 Yes, you could absolutely do this trail for sure! There were a couple of spots I had to scramble, but I think you could manage if you go slow and watch your footing. None of the scramble bits were close to an edge.
Prettiest trail ever and I love the go pro ❣️
@@TerressaZook it is a very pretty trail! Thank you,😊 I think I still need some practice with the GoPro chest harness, but overall, it's not bad
