Outback Australia Dash Cam - Dangerous Driving Caught on Camera | EP 129 Caravanning Vlog Australia
After more than 2.5 years fulltime travelling, we have seen our share of stupidity and unfortunately also some accidents due to crazy driving. Some people simply don't consider other road users. It's all about themselves and their tight time frames.
On our way from Noccundra to Eromanga we had again some of those 'heros' behind us. Despite our UHF radio sign at the back of the caravan (and yes, our radio is always on in rural and remote areas) they did not bother to contact us. Upcoming traffic can clearly see our UHF antenna at the front of the car. So ... the question here is: why do those drivers DON'T use their UHF radios to safely pass or inform us of their actions?
For example these guys in the Ute, towing a trailer. We stopped on the side of the single lane road, to let the approaching road train pass safely. These guys, however, where too much in a hurry to just wait behind us. They thought it would be ok to overtake us on the left - on the partly still soft grounds after all that rain - after they realised WHY we had actually stopped. First they attempted to overtake us on the road, then hey must have realised that we have stopped for the road train and quickly moved to the left, as it probably was too late for them to stop safely without running into the rear of our caravan. They even had the nerves to call us idiots. Really?!
Please people, drive safely, use your UHFs and most importantly your COMMON SENSE, especially in the outback. It's always better to arrive late than never.

Thanks for tuning in and following us. This channel is our connection to family and friends here in Australia and most importantly in Germany and other parts of the world, where ever they live. Since travelling internationally has been so hard and over a period of time even impossible we decided use our channel to invite you all to follow us virtually.
Please don't be offended when we here and then switch languages. Our mother language is German and we would like to help our German (non English speaking) family, friends and followers to be part of our journey and new chapter in our life. Flooded ... again | EP 127 Caravanning Vlog Australia - AS Nomads

We got stuck due to rain yet again. While visiting Noccundra in West Queensland, a rain band dropped 18 mm of rain overnight, and blocked the exit out of the campground. We had two options: a chance of getting bogged or stay put and wait. Noccundra Waterhole is a beautiful campground with lots of birds and wildlife. We leave the blacktop and hit the red dust. Charleville and Adavale are connected by a very dusty main road. This is the road locals have to travel to go between the two cities. It's an adventure for travellers, but perhaps not so much for the locals. Although ... we talked to a few people who love it that way, as 'it keeps the crowds away'. Having been c.vanners for a long time, we gave it up, and went back to a hardfloor campertrailer, something we always wanted to do again. We still have it and we still use it but mainly for local trips. We went further into the dark ages again, by buying an Adventure Motorcycle , I am a returning rider at 65yo, so wanted to get real remote , and do it as cheaply as possible. The only thing we miss about the not having the campertrailer is a fridge. We both sleep on self inflating mattresses and we both are loving it. My wife was the one who suggested we go back to motorcycling, I was always hoping to but was not sure she would get onboard, I have subbed your channel, as you go to the places we want to go to again. When I say remote, we have a range of 800km with 2 X 6 lt jerry cans strapped on the front racks, The bikes' tank is 15lt., so long as their is fuel in the area within 700km we can get pretty remote.

      Wow, that sounds exciting. Simon used to drive and love motorbikes. I am not really a fan, I prefer 4 wheels over 2, and rather jump on a horse then a motorbike. I totally get it, feeling to be much more connected to the environment when not having a chassis around you. For the sleeping arrangements: good on you. :D And wow. Again, my favourite comfort is having a comfortable bed and a toilet with me. Please don't judge :D In saying that, we also loved tent camping. Are you going to share some of your rides on UA-cam? We sometimes watch UA-cam channels from bikers travelling around and through Australia. It's amazing, what you see what others don't see, including us. The roughness is addictive. Just a question, why not fit it in front of the mudflats of the van?

    • @asnomads
      @asnomads 8 днів тому

      It's designed to be fitted that way. They are made on order, for the specific caravan and car model you tell them (they have all the details). If you move the fitting closer to the car, it's hanging too low and will touch the grounds eventually. Have you ever seen stone stompers flapping crazy because they hang too lose? :)

    • @tubby5006
      @tubby5006 8 днів тому

      Not really what I was asking. I’m just about to fit mine and your wife (?) said you were going to cut the front mud flaps on the van. I assumed you were going to attach it in front of the front mud flaps?

    • @asnomads
      @asnomads 7 днів тому

      We thought about cutting them, but ... we yet didn't cut the front mud flaps. After all we decided to keep them where they are, as they protect the connections behind the way they are, even if we would ever tow the caravan without the stone stomper (you never know). So we left everything outside the way it was at delivery, except for the Stone Stomper. We know that a lot of people modify their Zone caravans even further, but to be honest, we think they are absolutely fine the way they are built and delivered. A lot of thoughts and engineering went into building those caravans, so why change a (for us and our needs) perfect product? ;-)

      Thank you for your kind words. The issue with the music underlay, I hope and guess, I improved the editing. After I noticed the mix sounds different (and better) on the laptop, then later on UA-cam, I started tuning the music down :D Hopefully you find the more recent videos have better audio. If you have any question don't hesitate to send us a message via our Facebook or Instagram, so we can talk and give recommendations. :) The best is to ask Zone RV for a list of services in your area, closest to you. Coolum RV is very popular, we ourselves went to another place. Next time we are in the area we would probably try to book in with Coolum RV. ;)

    Fun fact. Years ago, you could smell Barcaldine before you saw it coming from the east. The town used bore water with a very high sulfur content, leading the town to smell like a big furz/fart. It was quite confronting the first time I drove into town.

    • @asnomads
      @asnomads 16 днів тому

      We got used to the smell, since we learnt where it comes from 😂. But we found that the water quality improved over the years. Many years ago at our first visit to Winton it was just as bad. Last year and this year: all good, great drinking water with no smell.

  • @BradGryphonn
    @BradGryphonn 17 днів тому

    15:20 Back in the 70s when I worked out in artesian country, most of the bores poured into open drains that carried the water all over the properties to water stock without using troughs. Some years ago, legislation was passed to cap old bores and using pipes to carry the water to troughs because far too much artesian water was being lost to evaporation.

    • @asnomads

      At the Yowah museum they have a few laying around that they haven't cracked yet. They can be quite big! Was very interesting. We couldn't film it all, as we didn't want to show the inside with all the beautiful stones. The owners told us stories from attempts of robbery (unsuccessful but still frightening), so we decided not to publish anything of that in the video, for their safety.

      Dankeschön 😊🥰. Naja, es war noch keine wirklichr Touristensaison, als wir da waren. Die meisten Touris fahren im Winter ins Outback. Ja, die Stahlschafe. Toll gemacht, oder? Leider ist die Schafhaltung in dieser Region extrem zurueckgegangen. Nein, Krokodile gibts in dieser Gegend nicht, die sind erst weiter noerdlich zu finden. Ich denke, fuer die Crocs ist der Wasserspiegel uebers Jahr nicht zuverlaessig genug.

    Great set of camps. We have added your bonus one, Yowah Rest area, to our trip starting in a few weeks. If your headed up further North, may I suggest Gregory River, Gregory Downs. We had a great time there 2 years ago and I would definitely go again. Probably my top camp site for QLD. Plus you can still cross the border to NT from there, but you would be taking the track through Hells Gate which apparently is a bit on the rough side.

      Thank you, guys. We can read your excitement through your post about your new caravan. :D Gregory Downs is on our list, and guess what? That's because we watched your videos and loved all those remote camps you have stayed at. ♥ So yes, this and Lawn Hill is on the list, but we HAVE to go to the Leichhardt Falls as well. See you on the road soon :D

    HI, I noticed that you had covers around your ankles, I presume they were protection from snakes. Just wondering if you made them or bought them. Loving your videos. Just reviewed the bucket hat video which I think I will make.

    • @asnomads
      @asnomads 2 місяці тому

      Hi Judy, thank you for your kind words. I make those covers (and sell them within Australia to fellow travellers). I call them sock savers, they protect my shoes and socks from stones and prickles, when hiking. They are not really snake gaiters as such (those are more sturdy and protective) but I guess they will keep snakes off, better than not wearing any at all. The bucket hat is pretty handy as it can be washed easily. :) Cheers Ann

      It's not more expensive than in other outback towns. The fuel prices are the ones you should look up before heading off. There is a good app for it, where you can compare prices. It's called FuelMap

    Thank you for picking up the rubbish left by some grub. I too get angry when I see that sort of thing. In regard to vandalism of rock art, it’s a shame that you didn’t catch the pigs in the act as fines can run into the several hundred thousand dollars. Just love your Dudley!

      Thank you Scott. We believe the vandalism has been done a while ago, it didn't look new. We even saw some on other rock art places, where people put the year in as well. Some are about 100 years old, so this isn't a 'new' thing.

    • @asnomads
      @asnomads 3 місяці тому

      As much as the caravan mirrors are a pain, the beauty of the car mirrors is that they fold in as soon as the car gets locked - and the caravan mirrors are not in the way. That is the reason we did not change to the Clearview. Not sure if there are better versions of those after market mirrors available now, but there are a few more reasons why we don't change the original mirrors. We don't like the 'elephant ears'. 🤗

    2:30 Von diesen flugunfähigen Vögeln gibt es leider nicht mehr viele. So wie dieser Vogel nicht auf das vorbei fahrende Auto reagiert zeigt wie sehr er sich schon an den Menschen gewöhnt hat. Diese wunderschönen Tiere gelten aber als recht gefährlich weil sie bei einem Angriff ihre sehr scharfen Krallen einsetzten.

      Ja, wir sind auch brav auf der anderen Strassenseite geblieben und haben Abstand gehalten. In dieser Gegend dort stehen ueberall Warnschilder und die Einheimischen kennen ihre gefiederten Freunde. Friedliche Ko-Existenz. Gefaehrlich wirds nachts, aber das gilt ja generell beim Autofahren in Australien.

      @@asnomads Profound isn't it... I have a deep passion for the Coast because that is where I grew up, but I moved away 46 years ago and sadly now the Coast of my youth is no longer the same. Where I moved to is considered Semi-arid and would be nothing without the irrigation scheme...on my darkest days I refer to it as the Desert. So on the rare occasion we travel the Outback I become board very quickly. On the other foot I watch Bikepacking videos from Europe and am always enchanted by the scenery...where as you would probably watch one of those videos and think ho hum!! Blessings to you both🙏

      Europe is beautiful. We travelled a lot in our own childhood and with our children. It is so totally different to Australia in many places. But the Great Dividing Range , the further south it is, very much like a 'home in Europe' feeling. No wonder, it is full of those European settlers there, especially from Germany and surrounds. It must remind(ed) them of home.

    • @asnomads
      @asnomads 4 місяці тому

      Hi, thank you. Dudley's bed is just at the end of our bed, on the floor. He has memory foam dog mattress from Kmart, with an additional cover for easier washing, and on top - a mattress topper so to say - one of those bath mats with those thousends of tiny 'bubbles' on the top (also from Kmart, but you can buy them everywhere in different sizes), which he loves sleeping on doesn't matter where I place it. He wouldn't sleep in a bunk, he loves sleeping close to his pack = us. :D
