Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Review Part 1: Klonoa Door to Phantomille (Switch)
I was so addicted to Mario 64 20 years ago and Mario Odyssey made justice to that. The best switch game!
@@gustavoc6812 cheers! I won't say it is better than Zelda BOTW, but I was actually more blown away by Odyssey personally.
For my taste, Shining Force 1 has a lot more charm to it than the 2nd .From the music score to Zelo, Guntz, Domingo Egg, Gong, all awesome characters. The first battle, the circus, laser eye, the trap in the chapel, it all felt unique. Even the vilains feel more serious, original and intimidating. Michaela, Kane, Darksol, laser Eye, Balbazak, Elliot. Nothing will ever beat this game for me in the strategy Rpg genre. The second I liked but less. Slater and Peter are my fav characters.I too wished the turtle had more Hp.
There will never be a new F-Zero 😢
And probably no knew Punch Out
@@pharmcat8484 Ouch, so much for optimism :)
My only experience with the Xenoblade series is the one on the WiiU.
You start by saying youve barely touched wii u games, then half your series feature wii U ports. So, an interesting list (particularly DK) Dont think I can put DK on the same peddlestool with no new releases, just ports and an upcoming remaster. And MK8 - the DLC tracka that come from the switch console are incredibly underwhelming compared to the original tracks... Pikmin (which has all the ports plus a new game), fire emblem (3 houses despire being easy was a phenomenon), metroid (dread, prime remaster and 4 coming soon), xenoblade (arguably strongest trilogy of JRPG games of the modern era?), Zelda (kicked it off), Mario (as ever) and smash bros (everyone was there) are shoe ins... So, with those locked in i'm going to need to think about the remaining slots. Nice video and diacussion. Heres hoping to the next generation being at least as exciting as this one if not more so.
@@AFriendRemembers I only played Mario Kart 8 on a friend's Wii U, so pretty much all the Wii U ports were new to me otherwise. That said, Nintendo only has x amount of series and most of their top tier series did see ports or remasters. I don't blame Nintendo for putting their Wii U games on Switch as many of those games were awesome. It is just a bit disappointing to not see stuff like a new DK game or fresh Mario Kart in a decade.
Zelda is always the number 1 answer. Even against Mario 😎. Good list though. Be interesting to see this list, but non Nintendo companies and the best that they offer
OOh, I dunno about that, but Zelda is very rarely bad. That would be a really interesting list, but that would be very challenging to make, mostly because of just how many great series are on Switch. I may consider returning to something like a more subjective favorite Switch games list, but with more than 10 entries since always seeing BOTW and Mario Odyssey at the top isn't all that exciting.
Goldeneye is not just a multiplayer game, imo better than any game ever on ps1. It's story mode matches the movie and is really really good.. Plus the wrestling games on N64 boosted it a lot, even if you don't like wrestling those games were better than any fighting games on ps1 even Teken..
Thank you for sharing, love No.8 Donkey Kong!
Yessssss! I would put DK higher if there was actually a new game.
Hi all, hope you are all having an awesome holiday season! Let me know what you think of the video and let me know what Nintendo franchise you think is the best on the Switch. Cheers!
PS1 if you have a brain N64 if you have friends
Just finished it and enjoyed immensely, I actually liked how they removed town exploration and how stream-lined it made the experience. Currently playing through Gaiden: Final Conflict
@@BigEyeGuy Interesting. There does seem to be two different camps on SF CD and whether the lack of exploration helps or hurts it. You and I are enemies ... Jk, I respect your take on it and hope you enjoy Final Conflict.
Fantastic video! I haven't beaten II although I am near the end and I must say that I can't believe it, but I rate II as high as I. When I first played II, I thought that I wasn't going to love it as much as the original because of the visuals and battle system even though I thought that it had one of the best stories that I had seen in a game, but my goodness. I restarted it and wow! This game is phenomenal and I am so happy that I restarted it with a fresh mindset. The story got even better and now I have been paying attention to the music and it fills me with so many emotions. The battle system is far easier than I gave it credit for. It is one of the greatest JRPGs that I have ever played. More people need to play this game!
@@MigrantBirdStudio so glad you have found a new respect and love for Vandal Hearts 2. It is one of the most criminally underrated RPGs of all time imo. So much fun, and so unique!
what is wrong with Sega? They just sit on this game
I feel like the ps1 was the true successor to the super nintendo because of the 3rd party support. No Street Fighter, 2d megaman, SOTN and lack of rpgs really turned me off about the N64
I think the 90s games are way more stylish.

One series I was interested in but never played. Great job!
@@pharmcat8484 If you play any of them, I'd say play 2 or 3. Those are the two essential entries that still hold up relatively well imo - granted SF3 is divided into three scenarios.

Great video! I had a great time with Astro Bot, it is definitely Mario 64 for Playstation (which is a great thing!). One of the best games to come out this year for sure. Thank you for shouting out our channel!
@@MainWaveGaming Thanks again for letting me use the footage! Cheers.
Nice review! Astros Playroom was a defining PS5 launch experience so i will definitely be latching onto this full release soon!
@@AFriendRemembers Playroom was very good, Bot is near perfection. Enjoy the game, and thanks for the kind words!
This game sounds like it tried to do everything and succeeded.
@@pharmcat8484 yeah, it must have had amazing QA and testing. I think despite the fact that it has so many ideas. They really nailed the fun factor from start to finish.
Mega Man Legends was great
@@MostInterestingManInTheWrld that is a game that has been on my wanted list forever. I dabbled with it as a kid, but barely remember it. A cult classic for sure!
Could you not get actual footage instead of using an emulator?
Great video but i feel like theres so much more to be said than this! Took sf1 and made it better in every fricken way! The Genesis at its best!
@@midniteghost89 for sure. It was one of the earlier videos, and I don't typically make super long videos, though I do have one longer series planned. I hope I at least spoke accurately about the game and encouraged people to try it, or maybe even replay it. One of my favorite Genesis games.
1. Doom Resurection (Viktor Luchitz) 2. Space Harrier 32X 3. NBA Jam TE 4. Mortal Kombat II 5. Virtua Racing Deluxe 6. After Burner Complete 7. Star Wars Arcade 8. Virtua Fighter 9. Motocross Championship 10. Metalhead

@@anfromanx1981 hahaha, it is the 32X, not the PS2.
Good to see you again bro!
Cheers @pharmcat8484! Thank you for your continuous support, comments, and contributing to the channel. I am trying to get an Astrobot video out in the next week or two - not a retro game I know, but it is inspired by many of them. Always happy to take requests too - as long as I am familiar enough with the game or have interest.
Hope you're well as well!
Knuckles Chaotix was just trying to be like MarioKart. 😂
@@pharmcat8484 LOL, all it's missing is the blue shell right before the finish line.
I really like the idea of you specifically looking at games on ‘bad’ consoles. It’s not only interesting to see highly ranked games, but also get a general insight to see if some of the biggest failures had diamonds in the rough.
Thanks! Did you get to play the 32X at all?
@@radicaldreamersteve5743 I played an emulator of Knuckles Chaotix, but that’s it. I played a lot of Genesis growing up, but didn’t know about the add-ons until many years later.
@@Electrohead92 I was a SNES kid at that time, and not very in the know about new hardware, but I have to imagine most of the hype was for PS1 and Saturn.
Very interesting to hear a fresh opinion from someone who never played a 32x before. You are spot on, had Virtua Racing, Star Wars or Chaotix been released on the Saturn (as it was probably originally intended), they would have wiped the floor with their 32x counterparts. BTW, what was the criteria for choosing those top 10 games if you had never played them before? Most of those games are indeed the best the console has to offer, but I rarely see Metal Head on any list of best games. Try instead Pitfall or Mortal Kombat 2, those were solid ports.
@@gilbertonascimento8008 I just did a number of Google searches for lists and opinions, tried to be as objective as possible. The 32X library is so miniscule that I saw most of the same games, granted some people seem to really like MK2 - as you said - and Doom.
Decided the 30th anniversary of this console was good enough reason to finally try it and make a video on it. I typically like to make more positive reviews, instead of games/consoles I am less fond of, but I did enjoy a handful of the games on this list, and do see the untapped potential this failed add-on had. Please let me know, what 32X games have you played, and which ones do you enjoy?
It's weird that I like Final Fantasy 2 more than Final Fantasy 1. Liking FF2 comes down to whether you like the leveling system or not, and I love it. FF3 takes what 1 and 2 did and combines them into the best FF game for the NES. Ranking the games I've played so far from worst to best, I'd rank them as 1, 2, 3, and 4.
I don't know why, but Wave Race 64 still looks and plays beautifully!
@@scottvincent184 I agree on this. It is crazy how well they handled the water physics in 1996.
I concur about the fan base wanting another shinning force style game! Not the other styles. We want another Force style entry in the series.
Probably what we all miss from gaming in the 90s is that we had a lot of time back then and were easier to please.
As great as Shining Force 2 was at the time, Growlanser eventually took what it did and did it even better(Growlanser 1, 3 and 4 have fully explorable worlds plus heavy political plots and even full blown dating sim elements that actually influence the ending and the battles throughout the game). Growlanser completely perfected the blending of RPG and SRPG and the real time strategy combat is more fun than the more basic turn based strategy combat with very limited options. Without Shining Force I don’t think Growlanser would have existed though.
@@westonmeyer3110 Thanks for the input. I really need to try Growlanser, and Growlanser Generations on PS2 (first two games?) is on my list of games to try. I will only slightly push back and say that the charm of Shining Force for me is, in part, the simplicity. Shining Force 2 is just so pick up and play compared to many games in the genre, even with the exploration elements added. Shining Force 3 has a much deeper story that is also more political in nature, though the ending cannot be altered as far as I know. Maybe this is just nostalgia talking for me, but Shining Force 2 always feels cozy to play, and I do feel like the simplicity could be seen as a strength or a weakness.
@@radicaldreamersteve5743 Growlanser Generations is actually Growlanser 2 and 3. Unfortunately Growlanser 1 was never localized despite being arguably the best one in the series. Growlanser 4 is great though and it was finally localized for the PSP. Edit: I also didn’t mean to belittle Shining Force. I definitely understand the appeal of simplicity as my favorite game series is Dragon Quest. Personally though I need a little bit more as far as gameplay goes for my SRPGs. It’s fine for Dragon Quest to have basic attack and defense commands because battles go by quickly but when you are fighting 20 minute battles on a grid it gets really stale to have units with no differential abilities, and basically just a couple different ways to use the “attack” command for every single “class”. It was great that Shining Soul showed that SRPGs don’t have to be just anime chess but the gameplay in the battles clearly suffered because the creator didn’t like SRPGs and the limited town exploration even in Shining Soul 2 doesn’t make up for it imo.
This looks like Illusion of Gaia.
Interesting, everyone always says Landstalker since it is the same developer. I can see some similarity aesthetically speaking between Illusion of Gaia and Alundra.
