Making a Two Part Mold - Prosthetic Makeup FX How to
Переглядів 2,2 тис.3 роки тому
This Mold (and Core) was created to produce a tight fitting "rubber glove" for an actor to wear, and give the illusion of a second skin on top of their real skin. The negative mold gives the surface details and skin textures of the hand, and the inner core creates an empty void in the mold that the rubber will eventually fill and produce the precise even thickness of the glove, that can then be...

The Making of Chris - a Large Scale Silicone Portrait Sculpture
Переглядів 1,4 тис.4 роки тому
In 2007 I created this hyperreal silicone portrait sculpture, based on my friend, Chris. It wasn’t really an exercise in creating an exacting portrait likeness, but rather in capturing an intensity of character in the sculpture. To this day, it is still one of my favourite works. Two editions of this work were created, both now residing in private collections. In addition to the silicone portra...
The Making of “Sumo”- a Large Scale Hyperreal Silicone Sculpture
Переглядів 6384 роки тому
This is a brand new edit showing the making of my 2008 work titled “Sumo”. This was a commissioned piece, and now resides in a private collection in Portugal. It was the last time I created a large scale sculpture without utilizing any modern digital tools to help with the enlargement process such as 3D scanning, 3D modelling and cnc foam cutting tools. The enlargement of this sculpture from th...

In Part One of this video I show the sculpting of a mini clay bust (using Monster Clay), showing the initial blocking out and establishing primary and secondary forms. Part Two will show the refining and adding skin textures. I decided to go with something fun and simple for this first video, and what could be cleaner and simpler than a Grey Alien?! Painting a PLA 3D Print of The Thing (1982 version)
Переглядів 6784 роки тому
The purpose of this video is to show the test painting of a translucent PLA 3D print, which is something I hadn`t tried before. It`s not meant to be a detailed Zbrush modeling or 3D printing tutorial. I`ll show that in other videos. I wanted to see if I could use this translucency to my advantage. For this I used a Zbrush model I had previously sculpted. Fans of The Thing 1982, should get a kic...

How do you get the glove off of the core without ripping it ? The fingers are so spread out the narrow wrist won't clear them.

very lovely! what is that white stuff you use to create the core? and do you have any tips on how to use it? I see you were putting something on it? was that vaseline? did that make it easier to work with? you also ran a hairdryer over it. Thanks!

I think if they would have increased the contrast on the displacement map, the skin texture would have come out sharper on the print. With SLA prints, I've found the detail must be exaggerated by ~10-15% to print true to life. Peopoly Phenom has large scale MSLA printers that are pretty reasonably priced that can print an entire head. I own one of them and the quality is also very good.

very cool! one question about the recesses sculptet at around 3:30 : Are those for squeeze out when doing a compression casting? i ended up injecting silicone with a huge diy catridge gun. since the mold is closed there is practically no seamline and you only have a pour spot at the bottom and tiny vents at the fingertips. And when fiberglassing i apply a soft microballoon - putty after the gelcoat. That saves some time, weight and resin, gives you shell thickness and stiffness and eliminates all creases so you can apply the mats in big pieces - especially handy if you work with woven mats. You certainly dont look like you need any advice though!

Have you made larger sculptures in Monster Clay ? Would love to know .... Thanks for always sharing your knowledge !

Hi Richie, I usually use around 50/50 mix of naphtha and alcohol. More naphtha if you really want to aggressively smooth it out, but not on detailed areas as it will obliterate them!

Also, how are the separate parts of the final silicone attached to one another?
