    You do not have depression. You just enjoy the negative narrative, feeling outraged (and entitled to "more") and the attention with it. If you weren't spoilt, you'd work more and complain less. Your voice reaches high octaves while you're trying to mock normal things. Instead of nitpicking, find a point, and make it simple.

    warning, this is very long, and not that good either: Also note, whenever I call you biased or anything bad really, I don't mean you are actually biased, I mean that your wording and tone could confuse viewers. (also from top to bottom, these are in order) Intro I enjoy AJR, even though I have listened to very few of their songs and I have no experience with music, but personally, I disagree with many points that you have made, however, there are some that I definitely agree with. I do agree that their choice of lyrics can be questionable at times with the swearing and bad decisions in general, as well as a few other issues, which I will discus later. However, I am wondering about how many perspectives you assume. Bias What I mean is do you just see yourself as a person describing what they dislike about a song, or do you see yourself as a sort of narrator, that has no bias and simply speaks what it believes. I noticed that in your last video about AJR, you failed to discus what you thought was good about the music except for a brief period at the start of this video, which implies that you are a bit biased, I am not saying that you are, and if you are, you likely don't realize it. In your first video, I felt that you did not interpret the lyrics properly, like you took things literally when they are meant metaphorically, or you took things metaphorically when they are meant literally. Take the song "I'm Not Famous", you were dissatisfied with the fact that AJR is clearly famous, which they are, however, you did not look into a deeper meaning, like for example; much like in Birthday Party, where the baby is in denial, maybe he doesn't enjoy that the whole world knows him, maybe he wants to believe that he is not famous, as it brings him comfort. This is probably wrong, but its more likely than him actually thinking that he's a nobody. Another "biased" thing you did was when you would sing parts of the songs in an out of tune, screechy voice, which could be confusing to people who haven't seen AJR, it may give them a false bad impression. Even if they know that the song doesn't actually sound like that, it can still make them associate AJR with bad singing. Your judgement You dislike repetitive language, such as the following lines in 100 Bad Days: "We had to work a bit more hard. Only just to get a little bit less far.", honestly this is just down to preference, I enjoy it though. I also disliked the pre-chorus of 100 Bad Days as well as Don't Throw Out My Legos, just as you did. General misunderstandings At 11:26, you said that they did not get the film, even though Ryan never said that, he said that the song was very good, except for one part, which they changed in Birthday Party. They may have misunderstood the film, which would have been a part of why they hated it, but they never said they didn't understand. That portion of the song being in there still doesn't make any sense though, its just kinda weird. Conclusion Jeez, a person can really talk all day. I agree with you on Don't Throw Out My Legos(It is very not cool). Maybe I just enjoy outrageous songs that aren't traditionally good, but are silly and charming in their own way. I hope this comment actually made sense and you know what I'm talking about. Also, please take this lightly, no offense was meant in the making of this essay of a comment. And the very next video that I just started watching is an AJR song lol

    i subbed to him a while back when he wasnt streaming at all, just making videos, and i loved those videos, full of funny editing and actual commentary, hes since dulled down a bit and started streaming and now all it is, is spamming the soundboard at songs and giving a little commentary but it definetly is way lower effort, kinda sad to see one of my favorite channels becoming a generic music reaction youtuber. on the other hand, fantano found a style that worked for him and stayed true to it, his style feels more genuine and well thought out. instead of being chat influenced and trying to be funny with stupid soundboard sounds.

    i did wite a fuck-ass huge comment about what i think of music critics in general but imma keep it short: Fantano is hated because he's the face of "music review" so that's a given and also 'cause he's not as likable(?) but, in my opinion, is far healthier for music in general while Brad is just... "HEY LOOK GUYS SONG BAD! *queue soundboard spam* " Like i legit felt a little bit more cinic of music as a whole the more i watched Brad. If i knew a band i liked was gonna put out something new i'd think "gee in wonder what they'll fuck up this time" instead of thinking of what could be good/interesting and that feeling is something, for as much as i hate his pretentious ass, i never felt with Fantano. That feeling KILLS Music. Point being: Brad acts more approachable/Likable than Fantano but in the long run i can see how constant exposure to his content could afect not only my perception of Music, but also large groups of people and we all know how well that always goes. There's only so much that DJKhaled jokes and sounboard bullshit and overracting can cover bro.

  • @FELLABORIS

    Wish his content was more like is AOTY reviews because those are really precise and well written and I know that it’s hard to be that critical on a livestream but I just wish he went a lot more in depth and used a more extensive and sophisticated vocabulary whilst also using his funny skits

    I really hope brads channel isnt ruined because of this and he goes back to his older more personality driven content. Also the overwhelming hate hes been getting over all of this is pretty undeserved, its not like hes some evil guy for just making lazy vids

      @stoogel 2 місяці тому

      He has opinions on music. That means he ends up shitting on artists that other people obsess over. Hence you have an army of Melanie Martinez fanatics praying on his downfall.

  • @stoogel
    @stoogel 2 місяці тому

    The value of those streams was the discussion and "listening party" vibe. It turned me on to multiple great artists. If the record labels were smart they would let creators pay for a license to keep doing it. Whether someone's reviewing good music or reacting to trash music they get paid. Twitch has similar sort of contracts with publishing companies (BMI, ASCAP) to allow musicians to cover songs on stream. I'm sure it would limit what can be requested, and people like Brad would be making way less than they were, but the $9/minute would make more sense...

    • @musicallyoptimistic
      @musicallyoptimistic 2 місяці тому

      The issue with record labels letting anyone and everyone freely use whatever, even through paid licencing, is that it could further devalue music. The barrier to listening to music used to be buying a project from your record store for full price ($10-60ish), then music got cheaper with itunes (which was a response to Napster's rampant piracy) for $0.99 a song, and then it got even cheaper with streaming services being like $10/month for infinite music plus UA-cam and other platforms being free. Music has essentially been devalued to practically nothing and allowing anyone to broadcast as much music as they want to an unprecedented amount of people would essentially mean less money for artists, which is my issue. But yeah, his pricing is dumb as hell

    • @stoogel
      @stoogel 2 місяці тому

      @@musicallyoptimistic Spotify is mainly carrying on the trend of devaluing music right now by paying less than a penny per play- unfortunately people do expect to be able to listen to anything on demand without paying for it upfront. Then if they like it enough they'll go to shows, buy records, merch, etc. Brad's stream isn't an on-demand music service though. He takes requests but the stream is ephemeral and music has unlimited replay value. Plus his VODs could never contain full songs. What I'm suggesting is essentially the same kind of umbrella license that internet radio stations have to purchase. So if you hear a song or album in Brad's review stream and like it, you have to go somewhere it's distributed by the artist or label to listen more. That should bring attention to artists (including the independent artists who frequently submit their own music to his listening streams)

  • @lonelyweeb6772

    I like brad but the crying on the video seemed like a very manipulative tactic. He should have known he would eventually face this issue because its always been a problem with his style of content.

    • @stoogel
      @stoogel 2 місяці тому

      This, he's a smart guy. He has to have known what he was doing wasn't legal, if the stream getting shut down 3-4 times every day was any indication. UA-cam could shut it down permanently any day.

    • @Impala101
      @Impala101 2 місяці тому

      I dont think we should always look at crying in a video as some sort of manipulation tactic because while it can be used like that, sometimes its just good to be vulnerable with an audience and its impossible to know someones motives. Also with the risk of losing his income source I dont doubt that brad started crying genuinely

    • @mike04574
      @mike04574 2 місяці тому

      He’s just an emotional mess not a tactic I dont think . He’s had other videos where he got so triggered and mad to the point of crying

  • @taiirino480
    @taiirino480 2 місяці тому

    I totally agree, brad is making HUGE amounts of money from essentially his audience to paying him to listen to music, to me what makes it really questionable is that aspect. Fantano (I know the comparison is stupid but hear me out) has streams where he listens to music, but he doesn't get paid for it like brad does. Making it worse is that brad most of the time doesn't even make his reactions substantial enough when he is literally getting paid to react.

  • @diabeetus_9837

    Great video. I do actually like Brad’s videos quite a bit, and I’ve always felt like he’s got a “good heart” as stupid as that might sound. But yeah, listening to his videos I kept having this weird feeling of dissonance. He’s saying that he makes transformative content but like…not really. I enjoy the dumb little skits he does throughout, but his transformative content is often just loudly playing “DJ KHALED” over a song that he thinks is bad or good, commenting on it, and then moving on. The videos were giving off this panicked vibe of “I’ve finally figured out the game and am earning shit loads…shit!” As much as copyright and that can be confusing, I don’t really see how Brad has a case here. If he wants to review music, do what Fantano or Spectrum Pulse or DEHH do. Talk to the camera about the music. They don’t need to listen to the songs on stream to make reviews. He makes bog standard reaction content at the end of the day, and react channels are always carefully managing warnings and strikes. Really great stuff though, I thought you made well-constructed and sensible arguments about what could easily be a golden boy of a certain corner of the internet.

    • @musicallyoptimistic
      @musicallyoptimistic 2 місяці тому

      I don't think all of it is exploitation, but a lot of it can be. My main rule, and other's from what I've heard, is this: If you removed the source content, would the viewer know what is going on? A good reaction example I can think of off the top of my head is CDTV. I remember when he introduced his reaction channel in 2018, and I was a bit skeptical at first because of his content being more scripted than that. However, his reaction material is mainly him breaking down lyrics or the sound. Snippets of the music are given here and there for context, but you don't have to listen to the album to understand what he's saying while not giving enough of the music to form your own opinion.

You just don't live in England JIK isn't a Christian Rap album? In what world mate Okay, I'll name some important ones they completely missed out: Emo Rap, Hardcore Hip Hop, Lo-Fi Hip Hop, West Coast Hip Hop (why the heck didn't they do that last one? they did east and south!)

    Based take, Brad's work is parasitic. If I were an artist that was used for his content I'd be pretty pissed to be honest. Like obviously someone like Billie Eilish is a lot more wealthy than he will ever be, but thinking back on all the artists he reacts to that are only popular in more niche music communities that are making like 10% of what he is making yearly as a funnel for his "content" is not something I respect. It's the lowest effort form of content there is and he is making insane sums of money off it.
