Empires of the Indus by Alice Albinia SUMMARY
"Empires of the Indus: The Story of a River" by Alice Albinia is a historical and travel narrative that explores the history, culture, and geography of the Indus River and its surrounding regions. Here is a summary of the book:
Summary
Alice Albinia embarks on a journey along the Indus River, which stretches from the Tibetan Plateau to the Arabian Sea. Her narrative weaves together the ancient and modern histories of the diverse civilizations that have flourished along the river's banks. The book is divided into several chapters, each focusing on different aspects and regions associated with the Indus.
Tibetan Plateau and Upper Indus:
Albinia starts her journey in Tibet, exploring the river's source and the cultural practices of the Tibetan people. She delves into the region's religious and historical significance.
Pakistan and the Ancient Indus Valley Civilization:
Traveling through Pakistan, Albinia examines the remnants of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization, one of the world's earliest urban cultures. She discusses the archaeological findings and the civilization's contributions to human history.
Islamic Influence and Conquests:
The narrative shifts to the Islamic conquests and the establishment of various empires, including the Ghaznavid and Mughal Empires. Albinia highlights the cultural and architectural legacies left by these empires along the Indus.
British Colonial Era:
Albinia explores the impact of British colonial rule on the Indus region, focusing on the changes brought by British administration, infrastructure projects, and the partition of India and Pakistan.
Modern Day and Environmental Issues:
The book addresses contemporary issues faced by the Indus River, including environmental degradation, water disputes, and the impact of climate change. Albinia meets with local communities and experts to understand the challenges and efforts to preserve the river.
Throughout her journey, Albinia provides a vivid and engaging account of the people she encounters, the landscapes she traverses, and the rich tapestry of history that defines the Indus River. "Empires of the Indus" is a blend of travelogue, history, and cultural exploration, offering readers a comprehensive and insightful look into one of the world's most significant rivers.

History is the subject he is very proud of. He quotes American history. He does it superficially. In Federalist Papers, American Founding Fathers feared a political leader with an aspiration to become tyrant. Napoleon and Marx do not fit into English-speaking civilizations. Having been witnessed to horror of partition of India in 1947 and having been a participant in Genocide in Bengal in 1971, this deranged Muslim has much to answer.

The problem is that at a lot of big companies, process becomes a substitute for thinking. You're encouraged to behave like a little gear in a complex machine. Frankly, it allows you to keep people who aren't that smart, who aren't that creative. I do love email. Wherever possible I try to communicate asynchronously. I'm really good at email. Brand is just a perception, and perception will match reality over time. Sometimes it will be ahead, other times it will be behind. But brand is simply a collective impression some have about a product. I think that's the single best piece of advice: constantly think about how you could be doing things better and questioning yourself. I think it's very important to have a feedback loop, where you're constantly thinking about what you've done and how you could be doing it better. The path to the CEO's office should not be through the CFO's office, and it should not be through the marketing department. It needs to be through engineering and design. When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. I think it's very important to have a feedback loop, where you're constantly thinking about what you've done and how you could be doing it better. I think that's the single best piece of advice: constantly think about how you could be doing things better and questioning yourself. If you go back back a few hundred years, what we take for granted today would seem like magic - being able to talk to people over long distances, to transmit images, flying, accessing vast amounts of data like an oracle. These are all things that would have been considered magic a few hundred years ago. When Henry Ford made cheap, reliable cars people said, 'Nah, what's wrong with a horse?' That was a huge bet he made, and it worked. I've actually made a prediction that within 30 years a majority of new cars made in the United States will be electric. And I don't mean hybrid, I mean fully electric. I would like to die on Mars. Just not on impact. If you're trying to create a company, it's like baking a cake. You have to have all the ingredients in the right proportion. When I was in college, I wanted to be involved in things that would change the world. There have only been about a half dozen genuinely important events in the four-billion-year saga of life on Earth: single-celled life, multicelled life, differentiation into plants and animals, movement of animals from water to land, and the advent of mammals and consciousness. The reality is gas prices should be much more expensive then they are because we're not incorporating the true damage to the environment and the hidden costs of mining oil and transporting it to the U.S. Whenever you have an unpriced externality, you have a bit of a market failure, to the degree that externality remains unpriced. Yeah, well I think anyone who likes fast cars will love the Tesla. And it has fantastic handling by the way. I mean this car will crush a Porsche on the track, just crush it. So if you like fast cars, you'll love this car. And then oh, by the way, it happens to be electric and it's twice the efficiency of a Prius. I don't spend my time pontificating about high-concept things; I spend my time solving engineering and manufacturing problems. Patience is a virtue, and I'm learning patience. It's a tough lesson. It's OK to have your eggs in one basket as long as you control what happens to that basket. Life is too short for long-term grudges.

Excellent summary! If a person doesn't respect himself and value himself he will not be valued by the other person. One must insist one will not be "run over" by the other person. There must be mutual respect and love. I do not engage with people who insult, abuse, take advantage, or laugh at me. I've only seriously dated one person. I will not marry a person like that.

We are glad to see Prof Pervez Hoodbhoy, Professor Ishtiaq Ahmed, and many others criticizing the Two-Nation Theory, questioning the partition of India, and exposing Jinnah. In India, intellectuals and professors are also lambasting Gandhi. However, the credit for initiating this discourse goes to author Nasim Yousaf. He was the first writer to expose Jinnah and Gandhi's dirty politics in his two separate books on Allama Mashriqi and Jinnah (published in 2007) and Allama Mashriqi and Gandhi (published in 2013). He criticized Jinnah and Gandhi’s politics, the partition of India, and the Two-Nation Theory long before professors, intellectuals, and the public started to question them. There was a time when Jinnah and Gandhi were heroes, but the situation has fast changed, and people with political acumen do not consider them heroes, rather tools in the hands of the British. According to author Nasim Yousaf, "It has been established that Jinnah and Gandhi helped the British in partitioning India. Moreover, Pakistan was created by the British and not by Jinnah. Under these circumstances, writing more books supporting Jinnah and Gandhi and their politics is not a good use of time. It is now necessary to write more about how Jinnah and Gandhi helped the British to divide India. Why did Allama Mashriqi refuse to support Jinnah and Gandhi? People need to know this interesting and eye-opening information. Such a book would be in great demand and read by a large number of people." Views & News Channel, April 21, 2023

an angry person will respond to his life with anger and cause more problems than a reverent person who deals with his problems by showing love and understanding. To learn lessons in life and move from one stage of existence to the other seems to me to be his message.
