How To: Acclimate new fish to your aquarium

This video shows how we acclimate new fish to our 10 gallon aquarium. The important step is to slowly add water from your aquarium to the water that the new fish is in. The new fish slowly adjusts to the temperature, ph, and hardness of the aquarium water in this fashion. Once the fish is adjusted, you can move the fish into your tank. We hope you like this video. How is the sound on the siphon? Is it noisy? Im thinking of adding this to a tank an existing overflow/sump, and it took me much trial and error to get that one relatively quiet. Great video BTW! Super solid.

    Great idea, I just wanted to ask 2 things, has the media been cycled already? Meaning does it have all the needed bacteria or do we have to cycle it again?

    • @justponics7785

      Hi, This will depend on your fish tank. If your fish tank is cycled, then you do not need to recycle again. The bacteria will eventually develop on the clay balls.

      Bell siphon auto-primes. Regular siphon needs external work to start the process like sucking water through a tube.

    Do you need to keep another pump going in the tank? Or does the siphon suffice for aeration in the fish tank?

    Is bell siphon is perpetual in nature if water flowing continually in the hose ???so we found out that uncertainty with certainty of perpetual motion???

    • @AffinityPhoto
      @AffinityPhoto Рік тому

      Energy is continually added via the water inlet. You can’t connect the outlet to the inlet for perpetual motion because you’d need energy to lift the water up (potential energy increase).

    Correct me if I’m misunderstanding…the crops on the top level would get more water than those on the second level? It appears that the top shelf needs to fill to a certain level before the second shelf starts filling. Once the entire rack is filled with water, then, the entire system drains at the same time? If that is the case, the problem (over saturated top levels), would be amplified as you add additional levels. Not criticizing, just walking through potential Microgreen production issues. What seems great in theory may not be as great in practice. Good job for working on these problems though!

    • @justponics7785
      @justponics7785 Рік тому

      Hi, all the levels should get an equal amount of saturation. As long as the siphons run, all excess water should eventually drain back into the water reservoir.

    That looks so ugly, just go buy a proper small aquarium, but if you do I recommend a 7/8" hole saw, not that 7/8 wood bit, that would just crack the hard aquarium plastic.

    • @justponics7785
      @justponics7785 2 роки тому

      The wood bit works fine for the plastic bucket in the video, but we have since changed to using a step drill to make the cut even cleaner.

    • @momiropan9123
      @momiropan9123 2 роки тому

      Your tank will still accumulate some solids, but the grow bed will filter some out. You can install a solids filter to help with that too. You will need to top the tank off now and then from the plants consuming the water and from evaporation.

    • @justponics7785
      @justponics7785 2 роки тому

      The siphon breaks when air is able to enter the siphon. This occurs when the water level drops below 1/4”. The flood and drain cycle in our video is between 5 - 7 minutes.
