The Battle of Bushy Run 1763 - Pontiac's War | Total War Cinematic Military History
The Battle of Bushy Run took place on August 5-6, 1763, during Pontiac's Rebellion. It was fought near present-day Harrison City, Pennsylvania, between a British column led by Colonel Henry Bouquet and a combined force of Delaware, Shawnee, Mingo, and Huron warriors.
The British were marching to relieve the besieged Fort Pitt when they were ambushed by Native American forces. Despite suffering serious losses, Bouquet's troops managed to hold their ground and eventually routed the tribesmen, securing a British victory. This was crucial in relieving Fort Pitt and maintaining British control over the frontier.

It took place near Fort Detroit (present-day Detroit, Michigan) along Parent's Creek, which later became known as Bloody Run due to the bloodshed. About 250 British troops, led by Captain James Dalyell, attempted a surprise attack on Pontiac's encampment to break the siege of Fort Detroit. However, Pontiac's forces were r...

The long-term impact of the war led to the Royal Proclamation of 1763 -...

Absolute cinema
This is a very well-made documentary! I enjoyed it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very good
Well, this is something. A masterpiece. Kept content on the channel in my playlist on total war battles. As if I was watching The War that made America.
Not bad but not great either. Your channel is the least awful of all stupid TW battles. There were actually only 447 men with Bouquet.
You say that with a lot of confidence considering you're wrong.

Still not right.
After Pontiac's Rebellion, will you make videos on the American War of Independence or some other war not in North America?
There are plans to redo the zulu war, new content with the first boer war, and then the War of 1812
@@oliverjonesmilitaryhistory That all sounds good! Great work!
It was said that the Indians cut out Dalyell's heart and ate it. His head was placed on a stick.
Interestingly, the reports mentioned c.400 Indians but modern historians believe it could have been as few as 100, creating the illusion of greater number as they screamed war cries and appeared briefly to fire from behind tree cover or from prone.
Yes, it would be very hard to accurately estimate the number of Indians due to their tactics and the cover provided by the woodland. 100 or so Indians could seem like a limitless horde of attackers if they were spread out through the forest and kept appearing all over the place.
Little is known of this battle, but one account mentions the British crossing a bridge over Parent's creek when ambushed.
Really good
Brilliant trailer!
A little less music and a little key vocal narration would work good with this in my view
We only want to do a high quality production, and with this being a passion project, we unfortunately don't have the funds to hire a narrator.
Este vídeo retrata con precisión la postura llena de adrenalina de los hombres de armas ingleses. 👏🏽
Have the content saved on my Playlist for total war battles.
Great video! Bushy Run was a significant battle because it showed that British troops had learned from their experiences during the French and Indian War. They not only held out against the natives in an ambush but even routed them. Bushy Run is also interesting because of the unusual and diverse array of soldiers who fought on the British side: Highlanders from the 42nd and 77th Foot, the "Royal Americans" (led by mostly German and Swiss officers) and Bouquet himself, who was Swiss!
I used to work for CA from 2006-10. When the game was in development there were plans for an online co-op campaign and full historical Seven Years War/French Indian. With a small 1700- 13 colonies campaign including King George's War. Plus 60 maps and 180 units that were never added. Sega rushed us to release it by March 2009 when it needed another 6mo. The lost potential seems to have been picked up here. Great work honeybun.❤
Cheers! Would you perchance be interested in making a full mod for empire to release the whole game as intended?
@oliverjonesmilitaryhistory If only I could, I would love to. The team of over 60 developers had 10 for programming and game engine. I was concerned with ensuring Empire was the most accurate game, as a history graduate.
Show this to history classes in U.S. public schools sugar.
I ❤ your videos
The quality is outstanding for a small channel... thank you for sharing lesser-known history.
Our pleasure!
This is purely amazing. I am suprised your episodes haven't millions of views!
Cheers mate!
Good cinematic perspective
Well, that was something. A war that was overlooked. Felt like I was watching The War That Made America.
What a brilliant little episode this is. I used to teach the Seven Years War to my history classes.
Made my Christmas. This war is almost forgotten yet had an undeniable effect on history leading to the American Revolution. Looks amazing even though Empire's 15 years old!
Cheers mate! The whole point if this channel is really to document forgotten or extremely niche wars. They are also easier to do, as less people were involved.
British blunder .. washington learnt from.their Mistakes and formed his own army 20 years later as the british wouldnt give him a Commission in theirs!
Don't need the music. The sound of battle is enough.
And the music adds to it, creating a swirling sound of chaos that represents the actual siege.
The battle was the bloodiest ever fought on Canadian soil.
A few suggestions for future battles (of course, only make them if you want to): Fontenoy from the War of the Austrian Succession. Cowpens from the American Revolutionary War. Rossbach from the Third Silesian War. Poltava from the Great Northern War.
At this battle, the Black Watch suffered 65% casualties and became a royal regiment for their gallantry. They attacked the French breastworks FOUR times and were the only British troops to make it in. I know that there are limitations with Empire Total War, but historically the Highlanders would have been wielding broadswords when they leapt over the breastworks!
Unfortunately, we can't include broadsword wielding Scotchmen. I don't even know if there is a unit model with that avaliable.
@@oliverjonesmilitaryhistory I know, it's a shame! Good video though.
Incredible quality! Just discovered this channel. Subscribed!
Thank you! My upload shedule is all over the place as this is a passion project but I try to make it good quality.
Very good. My only comment is that you could have added bagpipes music for when the Highlanders charged! The British army was the only place where the Highland pipers could continue playing their "weapons of war" following Culloden.
That was the intention. The audio would've sounded wierd if we had done a fade out, and unfortunately we could not find a suitable recording of scottish military bagpipe playing. By this, it either wasn't playing a war song, had other audio layered over it. When they charged the playing would've become messy as the musicians ran, and we struggled to recreate that effect. Eventually we settled on no bagpipes rather than substandard ones.
@@oliverjonesmilitaryhistory Yes, fair enough. I think the pipers would have been playing the traditional battle rants of the clans at this time, rather than the regimental marches which were later created like "Hielan Laddie".
High production quality and enjoyable, but as a matter of fact, there were actually 4,375 British, and 4,980 French troops NOT 4,400 and 4,800, respectively, as stated in your text.
Marion, necesitas conseguir una vida.
We give conservative estimates for the sake of simplicity and it is easier to achieve even amounts with the units we have in game.
Can u do the american revolution?
We have 2 projects coming before that, but it's certainly on the list.
Nice one
Cheers!
Well, I've enjoyed the content so far. Major battles and all.
Cheers. This is a passion project, so people like you keep me motivated.
@@oliverjonesmilitaryhistory that means a lot.
What does the game means
This was filmed in Empire Total War, a video game, as unfortunately I am not a confident animator.
Well, I pretty much enjoyed watching the battle. When making the series of the French and Indian war, you have the soldiers fix bayonets with no chance of firing their weapons. It's like putting a cork in a bottle. Is there a way you can get a ring bayonet for the soldiers who can fire their weapons as well as they fight?
Los caballeros ingleses eran débiles y mal entrenados, lo que provocó este desastre.
We are not confident at modding and thus we have to go for a certain period option on etw. So in short we either have plug or ring and as far as I'm aware they used ring anyway.
@@DiegoLatino-tr7wl Nope it was bad commanding. There were many experienced troops in the army but they were just callously charged at well-prepared defences.
I wish ETW got remastered. I still play it with some mods.
They've just released a mobile version of Empire, so that could be on the way.
@@oliverjonesmilitaryhistory amen to that!
I think of this battle because of The Last of the Mohicans. The British made a noble stand, but they had to surrender the fort. Montcalm tries to make the Indian allies observe the terms of surrender, the chiefs of various tribes listened, and felt betrayed. Many warriors died fighting alongside the French, and expected to return home with the honours of war. In the film version, Montcalm gives Magua the go ahead to attack the British marching. In reality, the British begin to leave. Escorted by French grenadiers. Trailing the Redcoats, is a long disorganized line of American provincials and camp followers. As the column comes upon a clearing outside the fort, the Indians begin their attack. It lasts only a few minutes. When it was over, exaggerated reports of 1,500 dead fueled anger among New England colonists. The truth was that 75 were killed. Of the 500 taken captive, many are ransomed back within a few days. What should have been a great victory, leaves Canada in peril. Without their Indian allies, the French will lose the war for North America.
The action was not based of the Last of the Mohicans, we tried to keep it as accurate as possible.
@@oliverjonesmilitaryhistory I remember that in the Last of the Mohicans, the British soldiers were firing their muskets at the natives. However, as you have correctly shown here, the British were not able to fire back because they had surrendered their ammunition to the French!
Todos recuerdan a Diego Latino, soy la estrella de la televisión de los 70 y las acusaciones estaban equivocadas. Nunca malversé 300.000 euros del banco.
Who?
Is this empire total war?
Yes it is.
The battle was costly to both sides. Johnson's friend Hendrick was killed, Williams dead. The campaign ended in a stalemate. The bright spot in the campaign of '55 was the British achieving victory in Nova Scotia, formerly the French colony of Acadia. In the darkest chapter of the French and Indian war, 10,000 Acadians were removed by force.
Indeed, I hope the information was all ok!
British Artillerymen have blue uniforms. Not hard to get right!
Its also not hard to understand we're using a 10 year old game and have limited modding capabilities, because we don't slave away on our laptops building the most detailed historically accurate unit model to grace the earth. We have lives. You should try getting one.
We used to go to Jumonville Glenn all the time when we were teenagers to hang out on the old bridge and party at the Army Corps of Engineers dam over the bridge.
Very informative thank you for this Sir.
Glad it was helpful!
Ok, this is something. Good. When is the series going to wrap up?
The final episodes will wrap up by mid-october. We will be continuing this era of conflict with a follow up 2 odd episode thing on pontiac's war.
