Part 2 of What is the best Glass for Champagne?- The Champagne flutes

The flute. Synonymous with champagne and celebration. In my opinion flutes are for when the vessel is just as if not more important than what goes in it. When you pick up a flute it should be light, the glass should be shine, it is a thing that holds peoples attention before you give a toast, it is a thing you reach for when you have a special occasions such as a birth of a child new job etc etc

      No my friend it is not. The glass is a "grand Cru" glass. It is larger that a Tulip, but smaller that say a Burgundy glass. I'm a supertaster, for me I need a lot of something to be able to sift through all the flavors, notes and hints I get. You would think I need a little of something, but I need a lot. I'm a student of the more more modern ideology toward Champagne. It is at its heart a wine. a white wine. so technically, yes, it is a white wine glass. But so are all "Champagne" glasses. In many ways I'm very traditional when it comes to Champagne. I've used every type of glass and for tasting (not drinking, there is a difference), this glass works best for me. when I drink to enjoy it, I will use something like the Riedel Dom Perignon Champagne Glass, or one of my Zwiesel Champagne glass. thank yo so much for posting. Any feedback you have would be great so please let me know what you think I can do better?

      Hi. I love sparkling wine. in fact, the Schramsberg in my opinion is pound for pound just as good as any Grand Cru Champagne. I do drink Sparkling wines. Long story short, everyday bubbly is part of our larger company. we became "the Champagne Company" last year. the Champagne company is the importation , disruption and brand representation/ambassador side of the business. since you asked, I will be happy to do a review of the Schramsberg J. Schram Noirs when I get my hands on it. give me a few weeks as we are moving to a new recording studio with some professional direction and production. Hi Daz, really enjoying all your videos. Question on this particular bottling. I guess I was mistaken in assuming that Bernard Lonclas was a "grower/producer"? I saw on your label it was marked NM.

    • @thechampagneco
      @thechampagneco 7 місяців тому

      Ok, yes they are a NM. NM Stands for Négociant-Manipulant, it means that a winemaker or a company elaborates champagne in its own cellars : the vinification, the blending and sales. Grapes are sourced from the vine of the Domaine, or can be bought entirely or partially to winemakers. There are 250 Négociant-Manipulant in Champagne, among them the most famous Maisons de Champagne which control 50% of the market. The difference here between a NM and a RM is choice. Bernard has the choice to buy grapes. They however do not. They are a grower producer who has several lines of business other that the production of champagne. For example, during my visit I doriced he has 4 presses and large trucks coming in and out. I asked him about it, he does pressing for sourounding houses as a additional business. Because of this and the possibility of some grapes getting mixed is one reason for the NM class. keep in mind he produces over 2 million bottles a year. He is a great man with a massive vision. Soon, I believe he is going to join the ranks of the Big boys. I assure you that he grows 100% of his grapes and is a True grower producer

      Lol. Don't be. It's a amazing expression of his Chardonnay. He takes direct control over everything and you'll taste it. I would recommend chilling it just a pinch on the cooler side and experience it as it warms up a little. I find his BdB has a complexity that requires tasting it through the full range of temperatures. You will be shocked at it's sweetness for a extra brute.

    From a scale of 1 to 10 where would you rate it if 10 is best ?

    • @thechampagneco
      @thechampagneco 7 місяців тому

      I would say this is a solid 6. 100% worth the money and the experience. I’ve been exploring the Maurice Choppin and the Eleonore ranges; we are now the US importer for these houses, and these really kick things up a notch. But yes, a solid 6. For me any Champagne between 5-7 is going to be great. I would say the only weakness with the Philipponnat would be lack of malolactic acid. You will get a wonderful blast of sweet bread and a soft mouth feel, but the Pinot in it needed a bit more softness to round it out more. Perhaps it’s just a matter of preference, but I think it’s lacking in that area. Still a great Champagne! Next week I’m reviewing the Eleonore GAGEURE 22. Thank you so much for asking a question and for your support!

      All extremely good points. It was a little longer than I wanted. Good feedback. I have gotten some feedback on the length of the intro. So I will be shortening it up. And I do appreciate the idea of the timestamps. I'll be incorporating those two. also I do like the idea of incorporating content regarding it being an investment. You definitely got me thinking. Your thoughts on the music, are you suggesting I get rid of the music all together, or just tone down the volume?

      Paul Bara in Bouzy, and Dosnon in the Aube, I emailed them and asked for a tour. They both treated us like rock stars. Email your favorite houses, they may say yes.

Champagne Pascal Walczak les riceys just north of aube. go see my 2 dear friends in Claudette owner of Champagne Claude Thuillier, and my friend Max of Champagne Oudiette, bothe in beaunay. and if you can go see Bastien of champagne yves jacques in Baye

      yes - Pan-fried Duck Foie Gras, soft cheese such as Brie. It’s a perfect pair to fish dishes and beef. keep it lite and fresh. there’s enough acid to cut through most things but keep it fresh and not to rich!

    Suggest you reshoot the video when you make the same mistake more than, say, 10 or 20 times.

      I thought it to be more fun by poking fun at myself. Can’t take everything so seriously. Champagne deserves respect, and Marc Hebrart Cuvée de Reserve Brut, doubly so. But at the end of the day, the content was sound, and I took a few jabs at myself along the way. Mistakes show that only by getting things wrong can we learn to get the right. For me, I learned to never make that mistake again

    Hello, this was a great and informative video, and I just subscribed to your channel. I have a collection of wine glasses most of which I believe are the wrong types for red and or white wine. I hardly ever drink champagne, so I bought what I thought were beautiful wine glasses that are trimmed with gold around the lip. The lip flares outwardly rather than inward so what is best to use my wine glasses for now that I have the wrong types? I actually have two sets which I bought from antique shops, and I love the way they look. Please give your thoughts.

      Thank you so much for the support. When I do these reviews, all I really care about is keeping people entertained and knowledgeable on the wonderful world of champagne. When it comes to glasses, don't get too hung up on the size and shape. What really matters is does the glass give you the ability to get your nose into it to get the bouquet. Does the glass obscure the color in any way meaning it's not perfectly clear. The reason I stick with Crystal is because Crystal comes out well Crystal clear. And that allows me to see the champagne and be able to gather some of the nuances and its composition. I do tend to stay away from glassware that has metallic rims, even though they're supposed to be non-reactive, they are. That being said, when I first started my journey in Champaign I was drinking it out of a white wine glass. And truth be told the difference between drinking it out of us a regular white wine glass and the difference between drinking it out of a true dedicated champagne tasting glass is negligible. However keep in mind that the big difference is in Champaign are subtle. Sorry to ramble on, I just love talking about champagne and champagne glasses. I would recommend the riddle as a good overall champagne glass. Or any white wine glass that has a less rounded bowl the shape to it.

    Thanks for the review. Have you tried the Palmes d'Or Rosé Intense? Curious about your take and how it compares to the Brut and the other big names.
