I still tear up when I hear this. A lot of my family members, including me, have served in the Navy - and it's them I remember when I hear this.

A hymn that totally should be sung by the Navy.

After many years of war, Ukrainians have become not as emotional as they were before, but there are a couple of songs that you turn on and cry like a little girl every time, this is one of them, thank you for the wonderful performance and thank you to all the people who help us and worry about us 🙏

In memory of my late grandfather,Mr. Rudy Wittke,Corpsman First Class,US Navy,veteran of the Korean War. Granddad also served as a field medic in the US Army for about a year before switching to the Navy and serving as a corpsman and mortician aboard a US Navy hospital ship. During the final years of the Korean War,my grandfather was the head mortician and administrator of the military morgue of the US Naval Base in Guam. This hymn was played at his funeral and at the graveside service. He was buried with full military honors. My father served in the US Marine Corps Reconnaissance Service and saw active combat duty during the Grenada Conflict. He was also active duty during the beginning of the Gulf War though he was returned stateside before the war really reached its peak. Dad was honorably discharged from the Marines in August of 1984. Both my dad and my grandfather were not only veterans but patriots too and instilled in me a great love and pride for my country. Sadly, my father passed in 2021 and was also buried with full military honors. I am an American and proud to be. I will always salute our flag,sing our national anthem, bow my head in respect of a fallen soldier, and will always remember and respect our veterans. I love this nation and its constitution that grants us our freedom and independence. And my solemn prayer is for God to once again bless this great nation and return His favor and mercy upon our nation once more. To heal her wounds,restore her faith, and return her dignity to us with His mighty Hand. May God grant to us His continual provision and protection and may we return to faith and scriptural solitude our great nation was founded upon. And may those who lead our nation seek the face of Almighty God and implore His wisdom and understanding in the leadership of our nation. As King David of old wrote in Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance.

I was born on the 7th December, 1956. In some ways I have felt connected to Pearl Harbour, all my life. God bless America.

I just had a flashback of singing this powerful hymn while straddling the anchor chain in the chapel while assigned to MarDet on the USS Ranger from 89-91. Gives me goosebumps 35 years later.

I cannot listen to this but 😥form I am reminded of the sacrifice made by so many throughout our history for FREEDOM I still remember when we sang this on graduation day at Women Officers' School in Newport RI in '67 when we were commissioned. As I sang the tears rolled down my face I am a Navy brat also (my father served 30 years USN/MSC and an additional 8 in I Corps as an adviser. It still brings 😥to this day each time I hear it.

I cannot help but think of the 5 Sullivan brothers, all of whom died in a brutal night naval battle off Guadalcanal where their ship, the USS Juneau, was sunk. The eldest brother survived the battle and survivors recall him calling out for his brothers. He eventually succumbed to the ocean after several days in the water. Not many Americans are aware that more US Navy sailors died in the waters off Guadalcanal that Marines and Soldiers that died on the island itself.

Now that was fitting to hear & heed. I pray GOD help the few fingers full of true CHRISTian men & women in our armed forces. Its a sad thought to think of the Anti-CHRIST, anti-American, filth that governs our Nation & its armed forces. Oh GOD help thy remnant.
