Which is which? Which one do you like better? Trying to see something here. Plus, I will reveal in the comments later which one A and B is. I tried to mix to best of my ability on both based on the tools that I had. I did not try to EQ match them, or anything to make them sound similar. The only matching I did, was level matching so loudness would not account for which was better. Let me know i...

Mixing Session - Fredo V - Not Alone - Harrison Mixbus PRO

A wonderful live recorded R&B song by Fredo V. I think this mix turned out really good, and you can see how the processing is done following Mixbus' logical workflow and system. Mixed with the on-board SSL 9000 J EQs over the whole mix, grouping tracks, bus processing, master bus glue, and final limiting. You are in for a treat on this one, and I don't do "much" talking on this video. Enjoy!

Nice bro
Thanks brotha! 💯💯💯😊😊😊
Wow very nice
Thank you! 💯💯💯
I think you adding too much compression on each instrument like the guitars. But the drums sounds perfect to me. Just like a real band playing on my front
Thanks for your feedback, and I agree, I might have gone crazy with the compression when I did this video lol. 🤣
where is for download pls ?
It was from an old remixpacks website that no longer exists.
I think in the end, plug in wise, they are just tools, use them how you need to complete your job. Can some have more tools than they need or use? Or not know how to use them efficiently? sure. Can some do more with less? absolutely. Can some struggle, not having the tool that makes it easy? absolutely. Experience its what allows one to hone a preferred tool collection. Now I worked the trades my whole life, and I see the application as the same, clearly. Analog sound in digital daw? Same. I have heard some mixes sound great that were digitally sterile at the track level, up to the group busses and then saturation or harmonics applied there, as opposed to built up over the channels, where it has to be far more subtle and a guessing game based on the summing factor. Now he used group busses a bit more than I prefer, but it is how he worked, so I might not have the success he got. Either way the results were reached, and I grew up in analog like you, and can hear and feel the diff. Too many want an easy button, and it doesn't work that way with anything requiring the building up of experience, as tool use always requires. History proves it sells tho huh. Great points in your vid as well.
That's true. Even Serban said there is no easy button to this. 😊
Version 10 has 32c included for $15 bucks
This is the time to get it!

@@vigilantestylez Talking about the Harrison MPC CHnnel strip
Oh. They had it for sale during Black Friday. $99 at the time.
@ damn it’s 999 now lol
@MIXBYMALACHI oh damn lol 😂 Maybe they'll have a Christmas sale. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
It's not just one or two tricks up his sleeve it's a lot that makes for the overall sound, I noticed he cut his kicks and snares short so they give the illusion of snap without processing amongst other things
I agree, but this is just what I know from the magazine article. He did drop some gems tho.
@@vigilantestylez Yeah man I don't know if even Dre could get that sound now if he tried without all of the equipment and techniques they used, do they even make tape anymore. I guess all of the studios have been upgraded and modernised, converters replaced resulting in different final sound. I like trying to recreate it nevertheless.
@@sqwop Same. I agree. I think Snoop's Missionary album sounds nice, and you're right Dre probably uses different equipment nowadays. But I like to recreate his old sound, just has a better vibe to me.
Great work. Very informative content.
Glad you enjoyed it. 😊😊

@@vigilantestylezwhat is it
@JJaka1291 vigilantestylez
Mixbus 10 Pro is such an awesome DAW. I'm leaving ProTools for Mixbus for three reasons: one, because of the sound, two, fewer plugins are needed, and three, ProTools doesn't have scene recall.
I think when enough people find out about this, this may become the new industry standard.
Can you talk without cursing
No
What software is this?
Harrison Mixbus
Correct!
@vigilantestylez love your videos man. Been binging them! You drop gems. The dre stuff you did is crazy.
@@santaslilhelper4945 Thank you! I will make more!
I got the perpetual and permanent base version, mixbus 10 for free with my SSL2+. I absolutely LOVE that workflow already. The more i learn in college the more i just ADORE this. It's simple, yet elegant. It has everything I need and more! will definitely buy the PRO version in the future.
It is pretty wonderful!
You are so misinformed!
Does anybody know if the mixer scenes are limited to only 8 scenes? I hope not!
It might be on this version. I don't use them, so I don't know unfortunately.
@@vigilantestylez I found out it's only 12 scenes max.
@@kitmateyawa7829 That makes sense.
Ok so this is from 2022; i'm saying, I have also seen your recent video in which you praise the Harrison Mixbus 10 pro. Bro, between the BX SSL console and Harrison mixbus pro which would you recomend?
I'm going to say that I like the BX SSL better because of the compressor. It has that SSL smack, and Mixbus Pro doesn't have that, it just has the EQ, which is fine, and is a nice alternative to the Harrison EQ.
@@vigilantestylez ok and between the SSL compressor an the Harrison compressor?
@@stanleyassor3172 I like the SSL compressor more due to it's auto gain feature.
23:10 .... yeah, you gotta know who to pull that with, though 😅
🤣😂🤣
i remember wen fl studio was called MTVs music generator for PlayStation 1... shi was dope !
FL studio used to be called fruity loops and was just a drum machine program at one time.
@@vigilantestylez dam u older den me 🤦🏽♂️
That’s crazy. I actually started out with the MTV Music Generator on PS1 in 1999. I STILL have the PC cd version of that from 2000. Back in 2001, Universal Record ARs laughed me out the room when I told them FL was what I using. Years later, that same AR was in my basement studio trying out Reason 2.0. I mastered some of his records one an early Ozone version.
@@Sance21 Wow! That's crazy! I had a similar experience. I sent a demo tape to Loud Records around that same time, and they told me my beats were too repetitive and the sound quality was wack. Crazy, because I made beats on a Roland XP 60 workstation back then, and many hit songs of that era used that keyboard. I think all the A&Rs back then would just talk trash about demo tapes to discourage anyone sending them because they only work with people solicited to them from trusted sources.
I have this inserted right before Acustica Gold5. They compliment each other perfectly.
Very nice!
So what would the vocal chain be in order??
I think the 1073 into tape, then the DBX 160, SSL channel, then a de-esser I think. 🤔
@@vigilantestylez Oh ok because the way i tried it yesterday was 1073 into the Dbx 160 into Tape into the SSL 4000 ... and even that made my mix sound 10x better haha ... but i'm gonna try it the way you just said and see which way sounds better ... i appreciate the work you put in to making this video bro! you're the GOAT for this fr!
Love the insight! Keep it up!
Thank you! Will do! 💯💯💯
Yeap bro! Gettin too technical people forget about the emotional aspect of mixing, like if aliasing and shit like that, would make a difference on wich is going to make it or break it into success! One thing i learned over the years is : dont mix for other engineers, mix for the artist and their art! Even if in technical aspects every mixing move was wrong, if it sounds good is good! I have had rough mixes with deesers on mixbus and guitar cab sim on snares but shit sounded great i couldnt undo it!!!! It is what it is!!!
Amen to that!!!!! 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
As much as I appreciate and respect this approach it is only valid here as it sounds like you’re mixing pre mixed stems. In the real world mix where you get 80+ tracks with all individual channels I don’t really see how you can not bus things.
Yeah, on big sessions, I will use busses / groups.
holy balls that daw sounds insane
It's amazing! Now they have Mixbus 10 PRO, which comes with the SSL 9000 J EQ. Very amazing sound!
Hi u could mix sum for me?
Yeah, send me something.
What version did Harrison Mixbus32C transition from cramped EQ bell curves to de-cramped bell curves?
Version 9
I’m new to your channel but you right And I’m tired of running out of that damn dsp with universal audio trying to mixing my music so I’m doing my homework on SSL channel strip from brainworks thank you for the input just subscribed
Thanks man! Welcome to the channel! Yeah I'm tired of getting ripped off by plug-in companies too. I do have a couple UAD plugins but this ilok constantly checking the license is just BS. I can never run those plugins without an internet connection. Smh..
@@vigilantestylez yeah UAD once you start using to many of the plugins it’s don’t let you assign anymore I got the Apollo x4 its great but that DSP and the price for the plugins is Crazy I’m about to buy the brainwork’s ssl 9000 it’s on sale so let me jump at this now
This record was already mixed by the way it was produced and recorded
Cool. Were you there?
@vigilantestylez that was a very insecure response. I didnt need to be there i can hear it. It was well produced and recorded it sounded like a record from the moment you pressed play. I wasn't trying to devalue your mix. I was making a statement about the quality of raw recording
@@arnoldwatkins805 According to Serban Ghenea, the guy who mixes these records, the material they get is pre mixed from the producer and they usually have to remove plugins from the session or work with what's already there. That's no different than what I'm doing. And yes, you are trying to talk down about my mix because the tracks sound good already so I essentially did nothing. When you come to my channel with a good attitude, I'll give you one back. Have a good day.
Iv got a little tascam 8 track porta studio I use it with the mpc cause the mastering effects compression and eq on it go's very deep and helps make the mpc sound even better
Been thinking about one myself. People really love the sound of that thing!
What's the best ssl channel strip plugin for driving the pre amps? I've been using brainwrx off your recommendation but it looks like that's not the case anymore. I've read UAD preamp is great. Thanks
I've heard the UAD as well, or the Waves Ev2. You're right the BX SSLs don't have the preamp.
lol i just realized put that master fader back up, you only making your job harder. Gotta gain stage properly king
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
I'm enjoying getting to mixing with Mixbus Pro myself, however I find it's still not ideal to track in. There are some virtual instruments I like to use which cause Mixbus to become virtually unresponsive. Kontakt 7 and Iris seemed to grind it to an unresponsive halt, so I find I'd still need something else to track in even if I then want to export the stems to mix in Mixbus.
Yeah. I just use Mixbus for mixing. I'm happy with it that way.
And is it good for recording vocals ?
Very much! 💯💯💯
What’s the name of the software sir ?
Harrison Mixbus
if you use mixhead, it has nothing to do with the hardware, not in terms of sound or frequency response. its more of a distraction than anything. you need the actual hardware.
But the hardware is "digital".

Dre used the 4000G series console …..DBX 160 on drums into a tape machine through the 4000 G and then into another tape machine after that. Also he used the AMX R-16 for his reverb….he had the orange knobbed version of the 4000 G during the chronic 2001 mix. But if you really want Dr. Dres sound….you need to get an MPC 5000 or older. Matter of fact even though he used a 3000 the 5000 has a lot of his sounds in it. On the kick boost hard at 1200-1450 Hz cut between 500 - 700 and boost at 50-200 for his kick sound.
Yeah, the 4000 G was the Aftermath sound? And the 4052E was the Death Row sound?
@@vigilantestylez I believe that is correct….honestly I haven’t heard many better albums than Chronic 2001 as far as clarity and bass….i know his G console had the pultec orange EQ’s …..the Japanese version I guess. Of course his mastering engineer was a legend too.
Dre didn’t use MIDI sounds on Chronic 2001….Scott Storch played a lot of the keys in real time on the keyboard itself. He may have used the midi controller for some of the bass but I know the MPC 3000 has a lot of those bass sounds in the programs too. Another interesting fact is that Eminem’s aftermath studio now has the console that Dre use to use….that original 4050E series ssl…..it was originally Micheal Jackson’s.
I thought Michael Jackson's stuff was mixed on a Harrison 32C?
I think around 1999 Midi controllers and sound modules were quite popular. The Emu Phatt, Alesis stuff, and the Roland JV80 sound modules were the rave. Maybe he had a rack of modules and the midi controller for only that reason perhaps...
@@vigilantestylez it was….up till thriller I thought was the last one that Bruce Sweden produced
@@vigilantestylez probably, I don’t know why I feel like I know exactly what he was doing….i was just a big fan of all that stuff back then and I hear the MPC having the sounds he used in a lot of that album.
@@vektacular you're right. Dre did use the MPC as well, and a lot.
I have the studer A800 plugin from UAD but I will tell you that by far the greatest tape simulation if you want Drums and Bass is the UAD Fatso Sr.
Just got it 2 weeks ago! And the UAD ATR-102
How do you like the Fatso? I find it great on synth spreads and choosing the correct frequency to spread out in the Sr. With hard attack and released you can make the entire track hum.
I gotta just tell you something I remember when I was like 19….which was 20 years ago man….but I remember Dre performing on a show…Saturday night live? Late night talk show? I can’t remember but he performed Keep their heads ringing’ live….and he had an instrumental band behind him….they literally were ringing chimes and playing the drums behind him….if you could ever find it, watch it….youll be amazed at the sound. I was infatuated with Dr. Dre after I saw that….it was in 1995-1996 somewhere in there…..I already was into Dre then but after I saw that….it was over for me….then he really beat me over the head when he got Eminem….the greatest sounds ever!
@@vektacular I don't have fatso yet...
@@vektacular I'm going to go look that up! Yeah, I am a huge Dre fan, and want to know everything he does!
It depends on the string sound but I actually will compress a long drawn out one tone string sound where I won’t compress a shifting up and down tone one…..hey since we are a hang out group….i have a question for anyone with feedback….has anyone ever had any experience with the weiss DB1 MK2? If so, let me know if I should look into it or maybe if you haven’t tried it out….softube has a whole weiss setup for like $600
That makes sense! Yeah, the only Softube plugin I have is Softube tape, and after getting the UAD stuff, I don't mess with it anymore.
