    This is due to the FMJ’s construction. Not a full carbon shaft it has metal in it hence the name. When pulling them from your targets don’t just grab the end and pull them all the way out because if it’s not pulled straight back and the arrows bend enough they will stay bent. I’ve had the same dozen pack of 4mm FMJs for almost 3 years. I saw a video about this when I was buying them an always pull them half out move my hand up an pull the rest. Haven’t had any issues with the same 5 practice arrows with well over 2 years of use and thousands of shots

      @BartTheSpartan I guess of that's something you want out of your arrows...I don't want arrows where if you hit a deer at a weird angle or pull them from a target wrong they are trash...

      You can paper tune with a broadhead as long as your arrows are fletched....a bare shaft tune my arrows through paper with no fletchings..if you bare shaft tune you absolutely can't use a broadhead something bad will happen without the fletchings steering your arrow ...I bare shaft tune every arrow through paper and then fletch them...I can shoot any broadhead I want after that I have no need to tune them...and Goodluck to you this season also..we are getting close!

      I believe they for 340 spine. And 28 inch arrow at 70 lb draw.. which is what Easton recommends. I have switch to 100% carbon arrows and went heavier spine. Not sure if spine was the case or not.. My original feeling is that they are bending little by little everytime they hit the target. My hunting partner was shooting the same exact arrows but 1 inch shorter and was having the same problems . Like I said I switched to Sirius Apollo 250 spine 100 grain inserts and 150 grain broadhead and have never looked back lol

      @Whitetail Therapy good to know, I was just looking at those fmj's and watching reviews, wasn't trying to insult your intelligence or anything just wanted to make that that wasn't a posable reason for the arrows to bend. I've been looking at those serious Apollos as well. My current arrows are 340 spine Easton sonics and total weight is 375 grains lol good for target but not the ideal hunting arrow, so I've been looking up different arrows got a few in mind but I'm pretty sure the fmj's are off the table now lol Thanks for the info btw

    • @Sparky513
      @Sparky513 Рік тому

      @Whitetail Therapy both, without spend to to much, I dont mind spending money in quality, but do have a budget, not trying to spend $20+ per shaft. Anything from the 12-18$ price range. I like the Sonics 6mm, but there just to light, and I shoot a 27" arrow and dont want to add a 200gr broadhead, trying to get to 480-500gr overall.

      Have you looked into the carbon express pile drivers? My buddy runs them and loves them ..iv never shot them but he is really happy with his and I think that's more of a cheaper option and can still get into like a 250 spine that's 10.5 gpi or something ..hard thing in my mind is trying to get to that weight without having more grains upfront .. could always go into something like that and get a stiff spine so you could throw in a heavier outsert type of system and still shoot a normal broadhead.. I love my apollo but they do come at a price I think I have over 300$ in 12 arrows and that's not including fletchings. Broadheads,and lighted nocks

    I spent a ton of time a few years ago trying to get a Recurve tuned. It was so frustrating that I gave it up and went right back to the compound. I have noticed that as I've started going a little heavier, the penetration is getting better. Now, after watching Mr. Fairy, I have a better idea of what to do so I ordered a test kit for the trad bow. But, once I've got that one dialed in, I will be getting a test kit for the compound this year. My only goal is to find that perfect arrow combo and move to a single bevel cut on contact. It looks like your draw length is a touch long. Good review and great ability to keep an open mind while understanding there is a balance.

      Man I feel really diving into the heavy arrows has opened alot of possibilities from just wanting a hammer of a rig to people with light draw weights..And I always go all the way..this was just a text to see as it all sits what is shooting the best out of the bow..I then took all the arrows and nock tuned them through paper and fletched them..and just kept my best shooting for hunting and the rest for practice..and none shot bad such little difference that I myself don't notice when fletched ..just a peice of mind thing ..yeah my draw was a little long..once I done this video I actually could watch myself shoot and seen my hips pushed out... So I watched John dudley school of nock and really critiqued everything I was doing .. ended up shorten by a half inch and then D loop just a little smaller and made a world of difference.. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    You’d be better off shooting through paper. Imperfections and differences in material in the target can cause the arrow to go in crooked. Especially if it’s not a brand new block. Also there appears to be some wind that can change the arrow flight too.

    I use a 125gr head. I will be going with 100gr insert with a 20gr weight. As for FOC, If you're over 12% your OK. 15-17% is pretty darn good. Over that is icing on a cake. Changing over to Sirius too. knock right might be: "for right-handed compound archers using a mechanical release (CR). However, it can occur and generally indicates that the arrow rest position is too far to the right or that there is possible vane contact on the inside of the launcher rest."

    Thanks for posting this. Real helpful. I'm gonna get a test kit of the apollos and get tuned up for next year. Gotta rock what I got this year. I've seen your comments somewhat addressing this but I noticed that pretty much every single arrow appeared to be knock right. If you go back and watch every shot I'm a little concerned that shooting the right side of the target on your second shot every time gave the illusion that the heavier you got the more knock right it was.. It could be from the block moving more with each heavier/harder hitting arrow.. Did you adjust the block or have some way of knowing exactly what position it was in and resetting it before measuring?

    • @whitetailtherapy7908
      @whitetailtherapy7908 2 роки тому

      It makes a huge difference. Definitely taking the time and building them yourself from the ground up .. And as far as the target I woukd either step over to be square with the target or adjust it . Just depends how much it moved . And I only started getting wild with the 300 spine the 250 stayed pretty true and the 250 is a heavier arrow just by itself. And like I have said it was a very rough test I was never going to tune my bow like this . I just wanted to weed out any combination that was to extreme .. I then bareshaft through paper until maybe 1/2 tear and then I nock tune every single arrow by itself until its a bullet hole then fletch..Thanks for watching!

    Shorten your drawlength 1/2"-1" your bow arm is completely locked straight and when you anchor your pulling your head back to get to your anchor point. You want a relaxed bow arm (slight bend) at the elbow. You will shoot more consistent.

Spent 3 weeks in a tuning hell. Finally realized I was under spined. Went to the local shop to get something to hunt with (opening day is 3 days away) that would work with my 200gr Samurai's and came across the Victory Xtorsion 250. Bought one to test, came with a 50gr insert, and starting shooting darts! Had them cut me 5 more. 666gr today arrow weight with somewhere around 15-17% F.O.C. I shoot Mathews Creed 65# 29"draw. Just a recommendation, u should shoot into a foam target rather then a bag because when ur arrows hit the cloth on the inside, they have a tendency to move and will shift the whole back of the arrow around. If u want to know exactly how those lines back to where ur shooting look, u should try a foam target, much more accurate results.

Why didn't the 250 spine shoot as bad nock right ? And also this is a test just to get a general idea.. I am not tuning anything in this video. All I wanted to see was a certain weight and certain spine all around more forgiving.. 300 spine were fine until I started getting higher into the weights and both 1st and 2nd shot were getting worse and worse ..If the target moving a little was causing my nock right why was I only extreme nock right on the 300 spine?

      @@whitetailtherapy7908 I'd guess it's compounding of small issues, amplifying visual outcome. You are correct that heavy poundage will flex a 300 or any spine more with more tip weight. I may be wrong but I believe his theory of this kit is similar to me changing powder charge in rifle hand loads to find a consistent vibration for accuracy as arrow leaves rest and string. Does this really work with arrow being it's not a bullet leaving flexing barrel idk. I'm playing around myself. I'm finding I can shoot bare shafts out to 30 yards into a round bale of hay and keep a 4 inch group with 125g heads. Good straight arrow flight is best 20 yards and under. I'm also in middle of setting up new bear redemption I purchased so I'm doing a bunch of stuff at once and don't have all the answers myself. @@whitetailtherapy7908 very cool. My father always preached heavy head. Said if I couldn't judge yardage then get better at it and don't worry about how flat arrow shoots. Also said when balancing arrow on finger it should be forward of center a few inches. Idk where he got this info in 70s and 80s but all of his hand me down gear I killed bucks. I bought new bows and high tech carbon arrows at the time it was new and an array of heads. Boy can I run a blood trail now. Lol. But I seen videos like Troy's and yours and thp. These videos you guys put out made me think of what was and what is.. the younger hunters in their 20s may never have seen what was. I enjoy being made to think. Thank you for the content and good luck with the renovation.

    Did you cut 28 1/4 carbon to carbon with a 29 draw? Are you planning to shoot single bevels or?

    • @whitetailtherapy7908
      @whitetailtherapy7908 3 роки тому

      Yes I plan on shooting single bevel. Maybe cutthroat 150s.. I mocked it up make sure nothing hits. And as far as my hand I don't shoot with any part of my hand over the shelf

      @@whitetailtherapy7908 Gotcha. I'm starting to tune up for 150 or 175 Grizzlies or Tuffheads for next elk season so I'm diving hard into these high FOC videos and the test kits from Sirius. What's the main difference between the Apollos and the Vulcans?

      @@ArchieRLib And the world of sledgehammer arrows is awesome! I can tell they hit way harder and in my opinion they are more forgiving downrange. The test kit is awesome , it's kinda pricey for 4 arrows that you may not use for hunting but I just changed a couple buddies 10 bucks to use them and made my money back lol. You plan on nock tuning and everything?

      @@whitetailtherapy7908 Yep the whole nine yards. I got my bow squared yesterday (a first for me, lol) so I'm just waiting for the kit so I can start from scratch and work my bow's load up all the way through. I'm a long time hunter but brand new to archery. This looks like a great system for bow hunting the way I'd like to do it. Thanks for your videos!

    One of the biggest things for me is the structural integrity, and having a broadhead that is about 200, you get thicker and better steel. Great video though, you're still not gonna be shooting a twizzler with 250gr up front and looks like you should have perfect arrow flight. Best of luck this season.

    • @whitetailtherapy7908
      @whitetailtherapy7908 3 роки тому

      Thank you! Making sure your arrow and broadhead don't just fly apart is a huge benefit lol. I am really happy with the 250 spine with 100 grain outsert system and 150 grain point. Bareshaft & nock tune though paper then fletch and they are complete hammers. This season will be my first season filming hunts so hopefully il have some awesome footage to share . Good luck to you on the upcoming season also. Check out our other videos and make sure you subscribe if you haven't allready!

      @@whitetailtherapy7908 Just bought the 150gr cut throat single bevels. Got them in the S7 steel, which is supposed to be the primo steel. I’m going to run basically the exact arrow you are with a Bear bow, but with a 65lb draw weight.
