Reclamation of hard waters of Ontario wherever they exist such as in Wellington County where I reside by using chemical treatment is not only cost prohibitive but is riddled with side effects as for animal and human health. Whereas, phytoremediation i.e., using select tree plantations extensively all along the river offshores has immense ;and promising potential to prevent and control the problem waters. Tamarind, Jamun, Red Sanders, Banyan trees have been well known in this regard. These have a significant potential to adapt themselves to the climatic conditions of Canada.

Prior to the 1970s it was difficult to sell a home and might take two to five years. The average price in Vancouver at the end of the sixties was $23,939. In Winnipeg $13,588. A house was a place to live in and while homes were bought and sold they did not form the basis of trade in financial paper in an unregulated monopoly market. In the early seventies the stage was set to change that. The newly elected premier of BC, for example, did not take a slow boat to China. The lease on Hong Kong expired in 1997. The Triads (gambling, drugs and prostitution) would launder some of their ill-begotten gains in Canada if conditions were in place that caused property prices to continually rise. Agricultural Land Reserve laws were implemented that inspired movements to place a halt on the use of _all_ land. Citizens were manipulated into establishing that they were a people of compassion and not deniers by rushing to rescue a tree. Each attempted use of land was met with organized opposition. Instead of increasing acreage commensurate with the needs of a growing population land was declared “protected.” Those most affected cheer each time another tract of land is _protected_ that through their action places home ownership beyond reach, tightening the snare on their own demise. Building _upwards_ while halting expansion _outwards_ causes home prices and rents to skyrocket creating a gulf between property owners and the remainder that in major urban areas is measured in millions. Residents of Canada may not utilize a land that was not promised to them. Couples that realize that their children cannot become established do not raise families. This country functions like a gigantic enterprise shunting the lifetime earnings of residents exacted through rent directly into the pockets of the chosen few. Tenancies are replenished by immigration. Life, liberty and _property_ as inalienable rights was changed to life, liberty and the _pursuit of happiness._ Before persons are admitted to public office, whether elected or employed at any level, they should be placed under oath and required to swear to the truth of their response to these questions: _Is your ulterior motive in becoming a public servant to place a halt on the use of the land resource? That was not promised to Canadians? That will cause home prices to skyrocket and shunt the lifetime earnings of citizens exacted through rent directly into the pockets of the chosen few? Unjustly enriching them and leaving residents impoverished and homeless?_

How Ford got elected is a mystery to me. But, then, how a chronic liar like Trump could possibly get elected is also a mystery to me. What I do know is if we wish to preserve our precious little home then we better boot out of office (and never elect) any politician who would touch the cleverness of the Greenbelt. I'm Vancouver-born and love the colour green.

People complaining about higher housing costs should stop hating the green belt and start questioning why we keep wasting our urban land with single family housing. We need more middle density housing like duplexes and triplexes because not everyone can afford or wants a single family house, and not everyone wants or can fit in a tiny closet on the 50th floor.
