ROXY the DOG goes on a HIKE in the LAKE DISTRICT
Saturday 16th November - Roxy our amazing German Shepherd went for an adventurous hike/walk to Easdale Tarn, starting at Grasmere, heading up towards Sour Milk Gill with the impressive Helm Crag to our Right. After passing Sour Milk Gill you eventually turn left and start walking towards the Langdale Pikes and eventually make it to Easedale Tarn.
It's good to be back out even if it was a short hike. to be back in the lakes, with the family and enjoying these open spaces again was wonderful and just what the doctor ordered.
Roxy will be out on another adventure soon.

Its a great little tent which is ideal for a quick pitch if it starts to rain while out on a hike. Love mine, but for a few nights out i much prefer my vango banshee 300. Thanks for the review.
Agreed it is a great tent just not for me primarily because of my height, I should've gone for Phoxx 2 v2. Wouldn't change my CloudPeak 2 now though, love it. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Nice video m8... lovely looking dog.. had one just like it called Jack. Keep up the good work 👍 ATB
Thanks mate, appreciated. Can't beat a GSD. Hopefully more content is coming soon.
thanks this is most helpful video before buying cloud peak 2
Glad it helped, thanks for watching
Wspaniałe duchowe miejsce ❤
Did you consider a down sleeping bag? Pump looks great and with the light makes it much more usable and worth carrying. What tent do you have?
Hey, thanks for watching. I have now bought a RAB Ascent 1100 for winter camps, I'll do a review once I've eventually got round to using it. The pump is fantastic if you've not got one I strongly recommend you do. I've got a Naturehike CloudPeak 2
@@BaldyOutdoors ohh a down bag. I have the OEX Helios EV Hydrodown 300 Sleeping Bag. But was thinking I need the next one up. The EX Leviathan EV 900 Down Sleeping Bag. If you watch my solo camp vl9g, you will see how many layers I had on at 5°c lol. My current bag is definitely at its limit.
I did consider that one but I want to do some serious winter camps and I knew the RAB had quite the reputation for being really good in minus temps. I'll give it a watch
Can I buy a stove fitting to use a frying pan on it?
Hi and thanks for watching. I dont think you can to be honest, Ive never seen or heard of one anyway. I'd recommend getting the latest Campingaz stove that I cover in the video if your looking to fry, really simple to use bit of kit and it now comes with a fitted igniter.
@nickmc_outdoors found a stove fitting... It's a jetboil part. You need to modify it by grinding down one side. Works a treat and fits inside the pot.
@@mishalchotai4721 if my Campingaz ever packs up I'll have a look at doing that
Well done. Epic trail indeed. Had the same feeling last year on my WHW adventure. Thx for sharing your experience.
Thank you for watching, it was my pleasure to share.
Good video mate! Very informative! Looking for a new sleeping mat myself for the winter, need to get my pack size down
Thank you Dave, those 2 are very good mates but as you'll know the market is swamped by different mats of all shapes and sizes, you're spoilt for choice really. I'll probably be using the Trekology for winter camps as it's thicker than the OEX with a foil line mat underneath. Got myself a new bag as well for winter the RAB Ascent 1100 so looking forward to that.
Фантастика
That place is everything you could want
When u going to scotland definitely when the navigation says it 5 min it feels like it takes for ever to get to the destination 😅😊🎉
I do agree but the scenery definitely makes up for it
Im 6'4 same as you was it long enough?
I did fit in it when down for the night but don't expect to sit in it out the rain or anything like that it's either lay down or nothing. I'd strongly advise buying the PHOXX 2 V2 if you still want that type of tent. If not then look at getting a 2 man tent like my cloud peak 2 for example.

the moles are an old country tradition if its any consolation there hung well after there dead so they feel nothing and when they die they dont no its coming .Farmers hang dead moles on fences for a number of reasons, including: To show how many moles have been killed This tradition may have originated when gamekeepers and shepherds needed to prove to farmers how many moles they had killed so they could get paid.
Hey, thank you for this. Ever since coming across them I have read up on it and had people tell me the same and it does make sense, horrible to see regardless but I do get it now and why. Thanks for watching, its very much appreciated.
Fantastic video really enjoyed this
Thank you, that is very much appreciated. If you've never done it I'd highly recommend it.
I ended up with the 300xl in a dry bag strapped to the outside of my rucksack. I got it because at 6ft8 and not slim it was probably the only bag I fit in comfortably for a reasonable price. I have just got a quilt which are always crazy expensive. To get one in my length meant custom made too. Until I found the featherstone. I picked it up for £175 and it is warmer, smaller, lighter and for me I prefer the quilt to the mummy style bag.
It is a decent bag to be fair I can't complain with it it serves me well, however do you find putting it into a dry bag is easier and does it condense down more than the bag it comes in once you've compressed it? I've seen quite a few videos that favour the quilt over a sleeping bag. I'm in a group on FB and they recommended the Alpkits for winter sleeping bags.
@@BaldyOutdoors it was easier to compress but also I got an Alpkit drybag that had two fittings that made it easy to clip to the outside of my rucksack. Otherwise it took up alot of space!
@@Waldo-Barnstomer think I need to definitely have a look at this Alpkit lot and start investing. I'll be ordering those dry bags very soon so hopefully that will help me out space wise.
I live in Astoria Oregon on the coast brightpoint Washington State Oregon to see ultimate for hiking and camping I enjoy your videos across the Atlantic
Thank you mate, that is very much appreciated. It makes it all worth the effort. Stay safe
Nice camping, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, appreciate that.
We were the ones camping on lower shelf stones … followed you after seeing your engraving 👍🏻
Haha this is awesome, thanks guys, hope you had a great camp it was a lovely night. Drop us a DM on insta and I'll give you a follow on there.
the blue one is 15D and the green one is 20D
Had a gut feeling the blue was a sort of lighter version. Thanks for making this point, appreciated.
I love the Heiro, works every time and mine's got easier to take apart when hot as I've used it. Mind, I also bought the OEX Etna stove top and a small frypan, 'cos I like Bacon of a morning!! Uses the same canister and tripod base, but does need a lighter of some sort ...
Yer, mine is getting easier over time. Nightmare when I first got it.
What a fantastic video thanks
Thanks for watching, appreciated
Loads of reviews say leaky. But I want it.
Hi mate, we had rain the night we first used it and it held up well. I guess it all depends on the extent of the downpour and how old it is at the time of leakage but that can be said for all tents. We're up in Skye in a few weeks so my view may change haha.
Haha ill have to watch. Thanks.
Scotland, where if you say the wrong word, you can go to prison. Socialist hell hole.
Out in the wilds and mountains it's all good.
get a down bag for less weight size and more warmth expensive though but if your thru-hiking often gear that would make it more comfortable to hike and give you more room its worth the investment
use your jackets like a duvet inside the bag which traps more air and you aren't compressing half the loft = or a summer bag inside boosts at as well, a one season insides two season gives you a four season sleep system. a bivvy bag also adds the missing season as long as its dry foam barrier under the mat helps but as you are using synthetic bags you don't need as much under insulation.
Hi mate, cheers for that I'll keep that in mind. When I did the wild camp halfway up Ben Nevis in March I kept my Peter storm jacket on, not the best insulated jacket compared to most but with my natural body heat it did the job nicely.
Recently bought a Eurohike Avon DXL 3 which is basically a 3-person version of what you have. Problem is, the sloping doorways. The front door slopes so much the rain pelts in when you unzip it. But worse still, the rain was coming in through the zip during the night as well, puddling on the ground sheet. Used it twice now, same problem. Just ordered the Adventure Tarp with the single pole which should fit across and in front of the tent to protect against this issue. My last tent had a completely vertical front, no water ingress to speak of. Poor design by Eurohike. I suppose the only real solution is to never go camping when it rains 😂😂
Haha yer have to confess that is a big design fault. You can buy poles separately for the doors but still leaves you with a big gap either side. Think we may go down the tarp solution next time as well. Never had an issue with our zips, on the Rydal they are covered over.
@@BaldyOutdoors yeah for sure, this could’ve been easily resolved with a little brim of some sort above the doorways (I have seen this on other tents) but I suppose at this price point perfection isn’t to be expected. The tarp is definitely a good solution though with the added benefit of a sitting out area as well. Note though, on my tent it renders the side door obsolete as the flap and guys are in the way. As regards the zip situation, you’re lucky as mine definitely isn’t fully covered; there’s just enough of a gap on the external zip cover and, bizarrely, it almost acts like a channel feeding the water down to the zip point.
a good tent. i bought it
Agreed 💯👍🏼
These Transition bags are so massive and heavy. I got the 400 standard size and realised it's way too heavy for me. It took up most of my 60L bag 🤣. Can't knock it for warmth though. It's tricky cos I don't want to support the down industry but I need a decent sleeping bag for cold weather. What to do what to do.
Totally agree mate, they are bulky, take up room and have a bit of weight but they are cozy and warm so for me it's a worthy sacrifice personally. I've got a good little system going now with it and my bag
Certainly a good unit for the price mate can't go wrong, av hammered 1 for over a year since 1st came out, no issues at all. Bought another 😅
100% mate, haha no harm in having a spare or to share the workload. I'm looking at getting the OEX skillet next, was tempted to get the jetboil version until I see that.
@@BaldyOutdoors I'm a bit of a tackle tart bro, so got the jetboil minimo the skillet and the ceramic pot, lovely gear, but it's so pricey a don't like using it 🤣 I've got toaks 750ml setups with msr pocket rocket. Got the jetboil Flash aswell and the micromo!! And me trusty trangia only use that and me heiro, must spent £700 last year on cooking gear, told the lass £300 like 🤣, but aye bad habit once it gets ya
@@davt8615 Haha I know what you mean the temptation is well and truly there but I'd be crucified. Think I'll stick with me 2 at the moment and the bigger gas cookers for family trips
Hi, great video and can i ask which size the carpet you have bought and what groundsheet you used? Did you also have to buy any extra pegs or poles? Thanks
Hi, the carpet is specific for that tent it's a Eurohike Universal Tent Carpet Medium (220x280cm). No all pegs and poles are provided with the tent. Only thing you would have to buy separately is the porch door poles/ropes if you don't want it rolled up.
Did the footprint come with it too? Thanks for sharing the cideo
@@robrunzhi and thanks for watching. The footprint was purchased separately but was specific to that tent.
Used this tent in the summer last year in a storm and held up amazing, no leaks and wind gusts up to 55mph, amazing tent for the cost
Absolutely mate
When booking campsites do you book where a campervan would go?
Predominantly yer but some campsites like fisherground in the lakes have a designated field for roof tents or coniston hall where you can pitch up anywhere. All depends on the site.
@@BaldyOutdoors Going to get on park4nignt when the tent arrives 👌
Hi, how do you find the jeep? Thinking about it for my next car.
Jeeps been alright to be fair had her since 2020 had a couple issues but not manufacturer issues though.
Il y a aussi une autre technique qui vous aurait évité de vous en séparer... C’est d’acheter une remorque et de l’installer dessus. Ainsi, vous pouviez laisser la remorque (avec un antivol) et partir avec la voiture...🤗
yes we see a few that did that but that wasnt how we wanted to use it. it was either roof or nothing.
How did you go on with getting your dog up and down? (We have a GSD too)
Hi, I lifted her in and carried her out. She did jump out once which scared the cr4p out of us. There are different hacks you can do, towel on the bonnet and see if they go through the side window. We were going to look at Ikamper steps they seem to be the in thing for getting dogs up to a rooftop tent (Google Ikamper steps) hope that helped.
Hi thanks a lot, very helpful. 👍👍
@@langdalepass not a problem, hope you find a solution
I came for the same question. 30+ kilo lab and we’ve just order the Tentbox lite 2.0 been trying to find ways 😅to
How come you sold it mate
Haha if you watched it you'd know 🤣 na we prefer being able to go places without having to constantly empty it, close it, open it, we'd rather pitch up, everything gets left in tent, no packing away and we can go for days out without that double daily routine if that makes sense.
Got your vid recommend, just wanted to drop by say happy belated birthday mate, also the vid is banging! Also did Ben Nevis after finishing my WHW with my mate, the views are absolutely amazing.
Very good mate, really enjoyed your journey.............your commentary was spot-on throughout, easy to follow and very ''matter of fact''... (which is a breath of fresh air compared to most youtube videos which usually come across as ''I know everything about long distance hikes and the countryside, I have all the best gear and you should do it like me'')..... You avoided all those self importance speeches and came across as totally genuine, for me its one of the best Cumbria-way videos. You dont need to know all the names of the fells just as long as you know how to get from A to B on a daily basis. You are right to be wary of cattle too(a warning to all)............the piece near to high pike was as honest as it gets when you realised it was much closer than you thought(the relief came across)...........all in all it was a cracking watch ''warts and all''......congratulations on finishing........all the best....Stu....👌👌👍👍
Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. I get what you mean especially those that have never done that trail or other trails etc. I'll be as honest as I can all the time, best way to be. Hopefully get some more content up soon, been super busy unfortunately. Again thank you for your comment mate it's very much appreciated.
@@BaldyOutdoors No worries.....credit whens credit due...👍
Great video, th8nk8ng of doing cumbria way myself next year. Also, not only do i have the same tent as you cloud peak 2 which i love. Light, spacious, compact. You also have the same stove as me, oex hero. Half the price of jetboil just as good, but i also have trouble getting it to sit in the lugs properly
Thanks for watching, haha yep them lugs are a pain. Definitely do the Cumbria way it is a stunning walk.
Awesome. We'll done
Thank you for watching.
The mole Catcher hangs moles on the fence so that the farmer can see they have done their job and how many moles that have.
Makes more sense now, thank you. Still grim, but I get it.
Thank you for watching as well. It is very much appreciated.
Lovely video - thanks for sharing!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it
How do you get the dog into the tent I have the same tent and a German shepherd
just lifted her into and out of it. its easier if they have a harness as you can grab that as support. There are other ways that we found online like putting a towel on the bonnet and getting them to jump through the window or buying a runner and putting it over the ladder at an angle and trying to get them to walk up.
Belting video mate
Thank you 🍻
Good stuff nick , well done mate . 👍
Thank you, mate. The first of plenty more.
Do our best mate. Love waking, i live in north wales and been all over these hills on my own, people think I'm mad but its all good for you. I suffer a bit of mental health also so its essential to do something good for yourself when you can
The great outdoors is great and amazing for personal therapy, to collect your thoughts, de-stress, de-construct a bad day/week, feel fresh and alive. The benefits are endless. Keep walking, bud 👍
