quite a well structured video and interesting to learn as i only read x men and daredevil and was a big intimated by the fact that spider man has such a huge catalogue but apparently none of the modern era stuff is worth reading, so thank you so much for distilling the issue for me. a couple of things i would mention outside of the actual content of the video but rather in terms of presentation - the exaggerated clapping in between segments takes one out of the viewing experience so if it’s a habit i would kindly suggest cutting the video around them, and the heavy breathing of frustration picked up by the mic also doesn’t make for the most pleasant auditory experience. hope you can take that on board, other than that keep up the good work!

At this point I just laugh how much effort they've tried to push Paul. I think they'll eventually retcon him with skrulls or alternate universe shenanigans or evil supervillain heelturn. Its just so silly that they are so desperate for Peter and MJ to be apart when Ultimate Spider-Man is on fire right now. I've only read the first 6 issues but seeing Peter still have the struggles of an everyday person (as a Dad) is SO refreshing as more spider people share the spotlight with him now. I think the problem with 616 Spider-Man or "main" versions of a character (this extends to DC as well) is that since they are the face of the branding, the status quo must be maintained. I don't really have a problem with that at times, its good to have a baseline other stories can expand upon since comics are iterative. My problem is that there were probably a billion other ways to split up Peter and MJ that don't involve chicken korma. Anyway, great video! :)

I'm planning a slight rewrite of modern ASM alongside this new ASM story I thought of: Ben Reilly recently discovered that Paul is working with Mephisto and did something horrible to MJ(Ben has psionic abilities in my rewrite). In Paul's dimension, while MJ is fighting against Paul, she is knocked out and taken to Mephesto, and she is in a cocoon. So the MJ, who is Jackpot, is a clone version of her with messed up memories. Ben, Janine, and Kaine all teamed up, took down Paul once and for all, and told Peter everything about this discovery. After the fight between the Parkers vs Paul and Jackpot, before Paul dies. He tells Peter about his entire plan all along while laughing maliciously until Kaine kills him. Peter feels guilty and angry with himself for leaving the real MJ in the other dimension. The Parkers and Janine all traveled to the other dimension, and all four encountered an apocalyptic Mayday and her team of Avengers to help her out.

Spiderman is parallel to Superman or Batman in terms of iconography. There is supposed to be a status quota that has to be maintained Superman has to be a reporter for the daily planet. Batman has to be a solo crime fighter fighting super villains. Spiderman is supposed to be down on his luck all the time which is something that people are getting tired of.

My personal fan theory is that Mephisto set up the circumstances that led to MJ meeting Paul. It sounds way too convenient that MJ leaves Peter for Paul, in the run that directly proceeds the one that establishes his reasoning for wanting to make sure they never have Mayday. Of course, this is just me coping to make myself feel better, but it softens the blow to imagine an actual narrative reason for a crappy NTR fanfiction tier plot line being canon to the books.

I think the writers have forgotten what makes Peter Parker Spider-Man. Remember when he was the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man? I get adding edge to it but writers do it for shock value thinking that correlates to a good story… it doesn’t. And also MJ belongs with Peter Parker! She’s not just some love interest, she makes Spider-Man better and stronger

If Tom Brevort ever decides to Retire the X-men might be on track for a better future but I honestly don't know how Spider-Man is going to be fixed. It seems like there's just culture that promotes stagnation for the peter and his supporting cast and I'm afraid that Miles might eventually get this treatment as well

The problem with American comics now is that writers and editors are trying to make the superheroes as close to real life as possible. It’s a dumb move and shows that creators don’t understand fictional stories and that superheroes are supposed to be aspirational characters for us real people to strive to become like. Not the other way around

I found it hilarious how Marvel wanted to end the House of X era to (mostly) have X-Men 97 synergy. Then X-Men 97 adapts elements of House of X. So it was all for nothing. It would be even funnier if House of X is adapted in live-action.

For me my definitive classic spiderman suit is the early 2000s merchandise Spiderman drawn by Scott Johnson. It was heavily featured on school supplies and kids toys. Its the most basic, default spiderman ever, which is why I love it. The light blue and red, the symbols are not too small or large. Spiderman is more toned out and muscular but still looks extremely nimble. The mask eyes are the perfect shape. Its a look that when spidermans name is spoken, that look is what immediately pops into my head. Its a pure classic spidey in his prime and im sad that its being forgotten. I'll say its tied with Raimi's suit as the most nostalgic look for the web slinger
