Watch This Before You Buy a Dust Separator
Everyone assumes you need a cyclone separator, but how do they impact your extractor's performance, and are they worth the money? In this video, we'll compare three common separators, see how they perform, how they impact your vac's performance, and figure out if they're even worth the cost.

Building Systainer Storage for the Outfeed Assembly Bench
I don't like it when they damage (age) a new guitar. I want my purchase to be new. I'll do the wearing the natural way. People buy them are trying to prove something.
You should take up knitting instead.
*_I wasn't aware Gibson was using scarf joints._* 👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣👣
I realize this is an older video, but I have alternate methods for separating the contact cement immediately prior to bonding. Try sheets of cardboard, thin mdf, 1/4" plywood, or plastic sheeting instead of wood scraps, or tubing. You can pull the whole sheet/length of material along as your bringing the glued surfaces together. Even heavily warped laminate will not be able to touch the surface. The contact cement should not be tacky to the touch when ready for bonding, so the materials should slide easily between the laminate and bonding material.
Good tips, I’ll have to give that a try
Amazing love the guitar, I love how much you put into detail and the time as a guitar luthier I enjoyed this. Favourite Metallica song wasting my hate 🥰
Thanks for checking it out!
Another Festool fanboy...
…and another Festool hater.
What is the model number of the Ridgid? I don't see a dust extractor on their site.
Looks badass with all that black hardware on the the all-wood finish. Now you just need to make a custom decal with your name or channel for the headstock!
12:01 I've mostly heard it pronounced "vuh-LOOT"
.. didn't even see a dent to begin with. Put a fuckin gauge in a piece of wood and show us how to fix it 🩸🪓
I love this video man. Big Metallica fan and a guitar player of 15 years. I have novice level experience with wood working from high school and I just recently took on a fascination of how the instrument is built. It’s a project I’d love to try and accomplish myself one day. This has been incredibly informative and entertaining, just subscribed. As a guitar player, some of my favorite Hetfield riffs are Dyers Eve, Battery and Holier than thou.
Honduran Rosewood is one of the best rosewoods found in Central America
Great video and great information. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Amazing dude. I’m sure you’re proud as shit! Looks amazing! Enjoyed the video!
Thank you for this very informative and clear video. What's the best way to position figure 8 fasteners on a 18" diameter red oak table top attached to a base with a round apron? The top is a ring with a recessed glass (built mostly of several quarter sawn segments glued properly to avoid cupping).
It would have looked cooler with gold hardware.
Anything from Master of Puppets or And Justice for All.
awesome work on the guitar and as for my favourite metallica song it might be overplayed but its master of puppets because its a song that has really cool vocals harmonies super fast guitar solos and heavy riffs
Favourite Metallica Song: Bad Seed 22:10
Ride The Lightning, Fade To Black and Frayed Ends of Sanity
Loved the video. Master of Puppets is my favorite song period. Metallica or otherwise.
One
woow that sounds and looks great! Btw fav Metallica song is Fade To Black
Howdy Bob, Looks like I'm a bit late to the comment section since your video is almost a year old as I write this, but just wanted to say great job! Especially for your first axe build. You sure have a very nice workshop and that definitely helps when taking on a project like building your first axe. Especially an Explorer. Maybe make the Flying V next to add to your Hetfield collection. Better yet, give me your address so I can come over and build one for me!! haha. As requested in your video, my fave song would be Master Of Puppets. This was the song I heard playing waaay back in the mid-80's and asked..."Who's that?? Wow!" "Metallica." Cliff was the one who got my attention at first. How could he not!?! The ultimate headbanger bar-none. As we know, he was gone soon after and far too young. Looking forward to more videos, Bob. I'm subscribed.
Heat gun was the wrong move. The heat softens the laminate. Next time have an old Gatorade bottle with a few pin holes in the top filled with lacquer thinner on hand. Squirt it in the area you want to lift the laminate and it will come right up. Let it dry and restick the laminate.
Cool tip - I’ll keep something handy next time I do laminate
great job! Sounds and looks amazing
For a first guitar it goes very well..quality woods..stuff…worth the time and result
This custom guitar reminds me of james guitar where he used the wall of the garage where they made their demos for kea rtl and mop
Just so you know man, you should be able to play a guitar cover of Metallica no problem. I've posted covers on UA-cam before with issue, and a lot of other people have too. The guitar turned out beautifully btw! Love the natural wood look!
I used an old blower/lawn vacuum hung it outside the garage. Adapted my 2.5” shop vac to the vac hard hose, and it works like a champ. Plenty of suction even with (doubled) 12’ of hose.
Progression from hand bending frets gives a very smooth radius very nice repeatable setup
Great build where did you find your templates to download. Seek & Destroy or Fade to Black
Fight fire with fire
How did you know where to put the bridge so that the intonation is correct?
The Unforgiven II, or My Friend of Misery
A thing I noticed is that where the the headstock meets the rest of the neck the wood is dangerously thin, that can cause the headstock to snap if you're not careful handling the guitar. The volute, the thicker part on the headstock, should be placed right where they join to prevent that. It's the part that you're working at at around 12:50. Try watching how it's done on other guitars to get an idea. I'm not a builder, I'm just a bedroom player.
That looks absolutely amazing. I was glued to the screen for the full duration. This was incredibly informative and the result is a one of a kind tribute guitar no one will ever match! Dyer's Eve btw!
1:00 I really expected something else than talking about the angle lmao
Right now it's ride the lightning Super fun to play
All I use is an old pillow case that is ziptied to the inlet and keeps the filter clean and easy to empty and reusable 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I haven't watched the video but am intregued to know why James Hetfield's guitar was in your garage.
The Four Horsemen is my fave Metallica track for sure. Great build!
Great video !!!!
That scarf joint is beautiful!
Ride the Lightning
great video! personally i think either sanitarium or house that jack built is metallicas best song
Raise the pickups, add bass on amp Great job
One or Master of Puppets
thanks now I want an explorer
I too am a woodworker, and I must say, you did a great job! Starting with a difficult build is something I do way too much! I just watched a video by a guy who "built" the "Flying M" guitar that Metallica gave to a fan. I gotta say, if a CNC makes all your parts and you just glue it together, it's not really a "build". It's more of an assembly. I have built a couple of Cigar Box Guitars, but they are simple junk compared to your work. Again, a really nice and real build by a real woodworker. 🤘
