Halifax would be the logical next city for possible expansion. After that, QC or another team in Ontario (Windsor or London?). If US locations are included, then it would be Spokane.

1. Start by adding either Halifax, Nova Scotia or Quebec City, Quebec to balance the CFL at 10 teams (5 in the East, 5 in the West) 2. NO to American cities ... EXCEPT possibly Buffalo IF they ever lose the NFL Bills. But as long as the Bills remain in Buffalo, the community doesn't have the $$$ to support a rival football league's team.

I grew up near the US/Canadian boarder, so I had access to CBC television on the US side. It's a unique, great brand of football, but with its rule differences and field dimensions, it's not for a US audience, and by evidence of past failures expanding into the American market, it's a no-go stateside. A Gridiron Club World Cup could be a way of growing the game outside of Canada and providing more competition, but that would require some tweaks to the CFL rules seeing that most global semi-pro leagues have adopted American rules.

US expansion was already tried and failed. Don't expand the CFL to the US. If you want a CFL team near the US border, out a team in Windsor, Ontario to get fans from Detroit. Buffalo is NOT a good candidate. It would draw fans from both Hamilton and Toronto.

I don't see the CFL making it in any US location. Although personally, I find the Canadian game much more exciting and entertaining than the NFL game, I think most Americans would consider the CFL as an inferior product. Any expansion should prioritize Canadian locations. The CFL tried putting teams into US markets before and they all failed.

The biggest hurdle for American expansion is one that the previous expansion 30 years ago exposed: American teams would not be subject to the Canadian teams' mandates for X-amount of Canadian players. They'd be free to stock their teams with college players and ex-NFLers - like the 1995 Grey Cup Champion Baltimore (Colts!) did. A competent front office could quickly build a dominant CFL team.

I would go with Halifax first. As far as the USA goes I like the idea of the Dakota teams but what about Milwaukee and Columbus for consideration? They will never get an NFL team.

The CFL is over 111 years old. This year's Grey Cup was #111. No seasons were played during the great wars, and 2020 pandemic year. TV were down because some games were shown on CTV Network, which has not shown a CFL game on in 40 years. Once the USFL folds, the #CFL should expand to established cities like St. Louis + 3 other American cities.

I would love to see a CFL team in Saskatoon. I would support them. It's areal pain in the arse to drive 265K to see a "home" game in Regina. We have 2 good teams already; the Huskies at the uni and The Hilltops. There are people that would never support a Saskatoon team but I personally think it makes sense.

As an American CFL fan, I was bummed that I didn’t get to watch my Argo’s this year. I’ve gotten so used to the CFL being broadcasted on ESPN here in the States, especially since ESPN and TSN are basically the same company. I really had no idea the CFL was on CBS. My guess is the CFL lost viewership in the US because of that.

The CFL needs 3 more teams Canada. Victoria out west and London and Halifax. After that works for a few years, they can expand in America again but not too far south. Stop hiding all the games behind a paywall, especially the Grey Cup. Only TSN subscribers get to watch games. That's no way to sell a product. Compare to a Sunday afternoon and evening of NFL games. Expansion of the league will not improve viewership since all the games are behind the TSN paywall.

Why do people keep touting Saskatoon and similar sized towns for expansion. There is no way the province of Saskatchewan could support 2 CFL team, the province has just over 1.2 million in the entire province. A large part of the Riders fan base is from Saskatoon. Same with Victoria BC, any mention of these as expansion sites is just nonsense.

Theres a few counter points to this vid: The decline of Edmonton’s fan base was initially because the team betrayed its fans with the name change. Pair that with fans unwilling to comply with mask restrictions during covid. Post covid edmonton had great alternatives to football such as the riverhawks and stingers. If the name changed back a lot of the fans will return no doubt CFL 2.0 largely failed due to Canadian football being too different to American football and the rise of 4 down alternatives like the ufl and euro league football. Because of the CFL unwillingness to adapt to broader american rules expansion should only be looked at within the country. Halifax has too many opportunities for the league to focus on. Quebec city is the best option for a balanced schedule and conferences. the league should maintain its touchdown events in the Atlantic and victoria. Other than that the league needs to get Canadians interested in canadian football especially since it wont switch to American rules. Best case is to get the CjFL and Usports football teams popular with youth and students and have interest trickle up to the CFL

As a America and a avid CFL fan I fully understand why Canadians would not want to expand into the US again. However I think it would be feesible to consider expanding into the Dakotas Montana These are markets have FCS college teams that are national powerhouses. Another fact is there are a good amount of former players from Montana, Montana St, North Dakota State and South Dokata St. are now on CFL rosters.

The CFL should have been this years ago: Eastern Conference - Halifax, Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton, London // Western Conference - WIndsor(?) Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver. Top 4 in each conference make the playoffs. 1v4, 2v3. No buys.
