Day 13 - Phinda Forest Lodge. BUSH WALK WITH MY BROTHER.
What an absolute privilege to see Phinda. My brother has recently qualified as a guide and works at this beautiful lodge. Thus we were lucky enough to go and visit him where he works. It was so special to be able to go on a drive and even a bush walk while being guided by my brother. As kids we used to argue about who knows more, I am definitely not arguing with him anymore.
Thanks boet for an unforgettable day in the beautiful Phinda.

Переглядів 2,3 тис.6 місяців тому
Waking up in the African bush is a bigger privilege than anyone who does it often could ever realise. Often we take these moments for granted. I hope the next time you are in the bush you realise how very lucky you are! After a busy couple of days, this relaxed day in the bush was exactly what the doctor ordered. Lots of biring, chatting to new friends, and a fire going throughout the day. Than...
Day 10 - Mkuze. THE FIG FOREST WALK AND THE MAGNIFICENT PEL'S FISHING OWL!
Переглядів 2,6 тис.8 місяців тому
Spotting the Pel’s Fishing Owl is one of those things every birder dreams of. Our dream finally came true when we spotted this beautiful bird on our walk in the Fig Forest. One of the most special experiences we have ever had. Just wow! Not only did we see lovely birds, but we also got to see Lion and a Cheetah at Mkuze! You don’t often see big cats at Mkuze, so this was really a special day.
Day 9 - Lower Sabie to Mantuma. KRUGER NATIONAL PARK TO MKUZE!
Переглядів 2,6 тис.8 місяців тому
We haven’t been this excited in a long time! WE ARE GOING BACK TO MKUZE! We absolutely love Mkuze it is (at the moment) our favourite game reserve in South Africa, which says A LOT! It has beautiful scenery, birding and we have had some incredible sightings there too (wait until day 10 😱). But what a lovely little afternoon at Mkuze.
Day 8 - Lower Sabie. WILD DOG CHASE IMPALA.
Переглядів 2,3 тис.8 місяців тому
What a beautiful morning in the mist around Lower Sabie. But then an even better sighting in the mist! Wild dogs chasing impala. Wow, what an adrenaline rush so early in the morning. Unfortunately no kill this time, one day we will still witness a kill 🤞🏼 But after a lovely day in the bush we started a lovely fire and had an interesting snack 🤔
Day 7 - Lower Sabie. LIONS FROM THE LOWER SABIE DECK!
Переглядів 3,3 тис.9 місяців тому
Probably the best thing we have ever seen from a camp. A whole pride of lions on a giraffe carcass. Unfortunately we didn’t see the actual kill (but whoever was enjoying their meal with a kill happening just across the river is was very lucky!) and we didn’t see the giraffe itself, we did however see lots of commotion and crocodiles trying their luck at the free meal on the sand banks. #african...

It’s always special being in the park, no matter what you see or don’t see. On this day we drove up to Skukuza Golf Club, played a round of golf and drove back to Lower Sabie just in time for an evening drive. It is such a blessing being back in the Kruger! What a beautiful day we had in the Lower Sabie area. Fantastic birding and exceptional sightings. Amazing video, as always! I'm a pretty new subscriber, but I've adored everything I've seen so far x Just one thing! The egret at 4:39 - I'm pretty sure it's a Yellow-billed Egret, rather than a Great Egret. Shorter bill, seems like a shorter neck and a much shorter gape than the Great Egret, which extends beyond the eye x

I have been planning to go to Polentswa. What time of the year did you go? We have been to the Mabuasehube area twice now, but have become disappointed in how run down and dirty the campsites have become. what is your opinion on Polentswa?

Stacy, Thank you so much for this video! My husband and I had the absolute pleasure of having your brother as our guide on our visit to Phinda Vlei this past June. What a delight he is! He absolutely made the trip for us! When UA-cam served me your video I cried out, “Look! It’s our friend!” Even though we only spent three days with Clayton he feels like family. I genuinely miss him. That giggle! Thank you again for the visit with him in this video. It makes us want to go back even more. All the best to you both. Please say hello from Jude and Craig. 🤗

Amazing video, I'm especially jealous of the Green Malkoha! It's been on my list for a while but alas, it evades me. One small thing, the Yellow-bellied Greenbul at 15:09 is almost definitely a Terrestrial Brownbul - a drab, browny bird with no yellow belly skulking across the forest floor x

Great video…spent 4 nights there in May 2023…very wet year and we struggled for “big” sightings, but we were 1st guest to do bush walk with Patrick after the floods….saw the Pels too….the hides in that place are next level…..that walk is so special…you are right, the park just needs more visitors…we literally were 2 or 3 vehicles in the entire main park…only saw other people once…

Definitely an immature African Fish Eagle. Brown crown instead of white crown is one good indicator. Also, whilst Ospreys do rarely overwinter (I have seen one at Sable dam in the middle of winter), they are summer visitors.

Hi Stacy, the nightjars at the intro are Square-tailed Nightjars. Not sure if it was one bird or two, I assume it was one. The buff uppertail retrice points to a female.

  • @Jaime-qd8cr

And the ‘Neddicky’ at the beginning is actually a Red-faced Cisticola 😊 notice the reddish cheeks and the rufous wash to the chest and flanks. This bird also has all brown wings, with no rufous wing panel (Neddicky usually have a rufous wing panel) The bird in the video also has some distinctive markings under the tail, and the tail tips are white. The wing tips also don’t seem to contrast with the mantle. These are all features of Red-faced Cisticola.

  • @Jaime-qd8cr
    @Jaime-qd8cr 6 місяців тому

I’m sorry to break it to you, but the bird at 9:43 is actually just an Ashy Flycatcher 😕 Grey Tit-flycatcher have a black tail, with white outer tail feathers - unlike this Ashy Flycatcher, which has an all grey tail.

Thank you for taking us along on all of your birding adventures. I watch and follow all of your videos. If you dont mind me saying, the bird that you identified as a Neddicky might instead be a red-faced Cisticola. You can clearly hear its call during the time of its recording. Have a look and decide for yourselves. Thanks again for a super fun video. Keep 'em coming.
