Tony Cottee Special: Highs, Lows & Fond Memories | Goodison Park: My Home
#EFC #EvertonFootballClub #evertonfc
Tony Cottee, the striker who joined Everton for a then British record fee of £2.2million in 1988, netting 99 goals in 241 games for the Blues, is the latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home. Snapped up from his boyhood club West Ham United when many had expected him to cross the capital and join Arsenal instead, the Londoner - now aged 59 - talks affectionately but candidly about the ups and downs of his six-year spell on Merseyside.
Cottee made a dream start to his Everton career, hitting the mark after just 34 seconds against Newcastle United and going on to complete the first of his half dozen hat-tricks for the club against the Magpies, the highest total from a Blues player since Dixie Dean, who registered a super-human 37, some 30 ahead of nearest challenger Bobby Parker on seven. Despite finishing top scorer in five of his six full seasons at Goodison Park, the diminutive frontman did not always see eye to eye with his managers and lifts the lid on how a difficult spell under Howard Kendall led to him facing an unlikely opponent while turning out for the club’s third team!
However, for all his travails, Cottee, who host Chris Beesley reveals netted the first Everton goal he ever saw, retains a passionate affection for the Blues and looks back on his time at the club with great fondness.

‘ABSOLUTE MESS’ | Manchester United 4-0 Everton | Joe Thomas Match Reaction
Let’s not be breaking out the violins for Calvert-Lewin. He’s the one choosing not to sign a new deal, so let’s get players in who want to play for us.
Devilishly good finisher TC
Wouldn't surprise me if the Leicester manager instructs his players to put Beto on the injury list for a month or two as it could make the difference between Leicester staying up at our expense or not. Going into the 2nd half of the season with one fit striker is bonkers.
Everyone keeps going on about doucoure, if he's so bad how come moyes picks him, maybe the manager knows better than so called expert fans.
-form was often poor, struggled to score, got dropped from England because he was out of form -nah I didn't warm up or anything, just had a cup of tea 🫣
Moyes will have targets unlike the dyche bag
Get beat tomorrow and it's panic attacks again .
Don't think tim is teady yet but I'd like to see Armstrong and garner start with gueye
4-4 against Liverpool up there as one of the best games under the lights
Hope ndiaye carries on the seagull celebration when he scores
Dewsbury Hall to take Doucoures place and a fit striker not Ferguson we cant take another chance like Broja. Im sure Moyes will have someone in mind and i trust him to get the right person in.
Dcl has scored one goal in his last 17 ..dont get all the hype..if chermitti was fully fit going off the pre season performances dcl wouldn't have been started .... I'm more worried about doucoure getting more game time he is pointless no matter where you're playing him
If we take a punt on a forward for now...he could become a good squad player as part of the rebuild. I'd go for Patson Daka if we can get him for under 10 million
He's a good player ....
3:46 Start
Really nice guy but a bit like everton ,jinxed,it wasn't to be should really be his and evertons epitaph!
Wow, that was really interesting.. sounds like a nice guy...
Ah. Tony. Hatrick on debut. Proper footballer. One of us and BLUE FOR LIFE Remember the 4-4 with the RS? He was phenomenal. God bless ya Tony. Proper player who understood who we were and wore the badge with pride. 99 goals for us is just sublime. NSNO. And as for that Copper blasting Tony (who didnt know) about the sad tragedy of Hillsborough ... it was his lot who triggered the whole thing. Twat. God bless the 96 RIP
I think i was at the window cleaner match, If it was 5 - 0 to Everton and Cottee scored all 5 , i was definitely there. Can you find out if that was the same match ?
Wow legend, him and Allan ball where mine and my dad's heroes ❤
Your shows have all been great so far but Cotee brought his team into it and spoke highly of our team.....sweet
Was at his debut match ! Great Everton Striker.
Great podcast and a great player for us
Upton Park was his home
Yes your right, but he had a real Affinity with us Evertonians, he really did..
Love tc only small but he knew were the goal was
Great interview. Tony scored at my first EFC game too - a hat trick even - against Spurs in Oct ‘91. Lineker scored a consolation goal
We broke the record signing Tony cottee 2 million , we are still paying 2 million for players 😂😂😂
What a Gent! Looks fit enough to still be playing. Hope to see him enjoying the new stadium surrounded by his old pals.
..also the 4-4, when TC came on and got 2. He even put Hansen it the net with one of his goals!!!
That was Graeme Sharps 2nd goal. And it was Steve Nicol.
I was at that Newcastle game, magic that hat trick was...went nuts went the third went in
Blackburn away - what a game. Wardy broke his leg (unfortunately),Mimms was in goal for them, Shearers first season for Blackburn - the away end was rammed...loads of us got in late because of the snow. But somebody had just come back from injury, cant remember who 😅 but he scored 2 and we won 3-2. Ill never forget that one!!!
Tony is a quality lad. Enjoyed this. Cheers
I took my son to his first game against Newcastle United he said to me who did I think would score first a said someone and he said he thought Tony Cottee would score and he would get a hat trick. I was going into the book keepers to put my bets on and I through a £1 bet on for him Tony Cottee to score 3. He won £50 I won nothing .
My dad took me to that one 👍
Went over from Ireland to see his first game against Newcastle (hat trick) Iam Macfall Newcastle manager came from my home town
I am not sure what I expected in this transfer window.. BUT. I real hope we can do better than Danny ings .This is not a good signing if it happens... Another has been ..And I believe that Everton fans are expecting more than this..
Richarlison has played in only 11 games out of 35 so far this season and in 2 and half seasons 63 out of 126 (Transfermrkt) hardly a reliable player anymore
We may not have an option other than seeing if Moyes can get a tune out of Beto? Just don't panic buy a striker and end up wasting even more money as we have historically! COYB! 💙
This week is the mark of whether we have turned the corner. If we don't win, it's back to the same old, same old.
Doucoure will play the Mangala role and Jack Harrison will play the number 10
God I hope not, it’s not a coincidence that we’ve won back to back games without Harrison playing a minute. His best position is on the bench
@@tonyc5772 no he f*ckin wont
Vardy won't get a sniff of goal with the current defence aslong as keane isn't near "the grass"
It’s impossible to measure Beto or DCL this season. The team created virtually nothing going forward all season and even a Haarland or Salah would have struggled to score. Moyes is already improving our style but he’s going to find players who will create and score.
Hahaha sure mate, I’m sure Haaland and Salah would struggle to score multiple 1v1s wouldn’t they… 🤦♂️
Beto will be better in a moyes system watch and see. He has shown some moments of quality finishing and is a serious physical athlete. Everyone is a worse player under dyche. Confident beto will step up. Its twist or bust for him and the big man has shown the heart of a champion 👊🏻
I like Beto, not terrible, not a world beater. He did get the penalty.
