POTA Activation Underground? Not exactly...
We (XYL KD8CXS - Lori, son Wyatt, and myself) took a trip to Mammoth Cave National Park in July... of 23. Sorry it took so long to post a video. We activated the park and then took a tour of the caves. Please Like and Comment. Let me know what you think!

What better to do at work than experiment with antennas?!
Переглядів 6873 місяці тому
Testing an EFHW during lunch hour. The only thing that would have been better would have been to actually attach a radio! I realize I didn't adjust my analyzer to the best 50 ohm match, I just wanted a quick reading. The Spiderbeam mast is heald in a hitch mount for flagpoles. I'm very encouraged and want to connect my 891 and see the results.

Ham Radio on a Parachute? Why Not?!

As Carlos, KD9OLN said, "You don't need a parachute to go skydiving. You just need a parachute if you want to go skydiving more than once." My name is Doug and I did a tandem skydive with Carlos back in July. This was a freefall from 14,000 feet. What an awesome experience. Please check out the video I posted on that one. This time Carlos and I did a tandem jump, but operated PARACHUTE MOBILE H...

NA1SS Voice Contact Astronaut
Переглядів 1,9 млнРік тому
I've made numerous voice and APRS contacts over the FM satellites and the ISS repeater. But I've always wanted to talk to an astronaut. Over the Memorial Day weekend I finally made that contact. I made contact with the ISS and talked to Woody Hoburg. What a thrill. The video got pretty lengthy so I've edited it for time sake. Please enjoy and 73!

This video is from my POTA activation of the Flight 93 Memorial, K-0774, in PA. We took a little vacation to Strasburg in 2021 to ride the J-611 and we stopped to activate the memorial on our way home. Feel free to forward through it as it is mostly me operating. Please check out the end however. I hope you enjoy this.
"DXPedition" to Mackinac Island
Переглядів 626Рік тому
July 2019 activation of K-1517, Mackinac Island in Michigan's UP. I've always wanted to go on a DXpedition and felt like this may be the closet thing to it. Mackinac hadn't yet been activated so we headed up to St. Ignace, and then to the island. Let me tell you, after that hike I've found that 1 - I need to be in better shape, and 2 - I need a much lighter pack. But we made it up to Fort Holme...
Kite Antenna FD2022
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
Field Day 2022. This is a random wire antenna, approximately 130' attached to a 9:1 balun. This in turn is attached to my LDG tuner. The radio is an FT-891. The kite is a 6ft Conyne Delta kite. The reel is a Hengda reel with 1000ft of line. I attached a 410K Ohm 2W bleeder resistor to handle any static. I had the kite up a couple hundred feet. It seemed to work very well.
J 611 Echolink Excursion
Переглядів 9043 роки тому
We were in Strasburg PA to see the J-611 Norfolk & Western steam engine. We took an excursion riding in a 1st-class coach. I was able to connect to my home-town repeater via Echolink and make a "train-mobile" contact with KD9SUI. Thanks for the contact!
Fwiw the cloud coverage also provides what's known as skip for the signal, which is why you can sometimes pick up randoms from outside your nation
Breaker breaker 19 in the sky this is the rubber ducky. Come in space master. My cobra 229gtl sears road talker is is connected to coat hanger just like yours.

He’s trying to reach the ISS about their extended warranty…
I don't know much about radio communication, so I'm wondering why are you just normally spelling NA1SS, but saying your callsign (KB8M) using the phonetic alphabet? Thanks
This is the America / world I want us to get back to.. where we promote our scientific interests and hobbies freely, peacefully, and without fear.
Wow lol yeah that redneck tv antenna communicated with space
🤓: I'm smart! 🤓²: I'm smarter!!! Doug: ...
Neat!
We were 2 days into Iraq when our satcom antenna was shot off the vehicle. We made a replacement out of a soda can and it worked throughout the first wave.
Ah man this is cool. Nice job mate!
Recieved this from the algorithm in the vastness of space 😅
Take that you space travel deniers.
@@RandyBaumery-u3g Thanks for watching!
It's literally someone across the street lmao
@@Xernive that's what Earth orbit is like, with modern communications.
@@RandyBaumery-u3g Well said!
@@Xernive I used to talk a lot of "skip" in the early 1990s on lower sideband of the upper channels on and near C.B. I even thrilled at contacting other countries near the US. I would STILL be carrying on about doing something such as this!
Some random dude in his car just responding lol
That is Awesome
@@jasonbrowne7525 Thanks! And thanks for watching!
That was cool. I could tell how tickled you were to make contact.

No idea you could do this. We should be trying to have conversations with them all the time. They are up there all alone I bet having others to talk to is a nice change for them
@downwiththesneaker9933 Thanks for watching! They do ham radio in their off time.
There are people in the "underground" doing some amazing shit. Why dont you get with them and colab? This is where shit happens

very cool man glad to see you got through to them
@azda.1 Thanks so much. It was really cool.
I would be so mad if every 2 minutes i hear this guy
It could have been a reply from Mars or a neighboring house?
I was playing with a radio before i knew i had to be "licensed" and i hit the red button... I got an answer.... Havent touched one since 😂
CHAT IS THIS REAL
this was really impressive and the most techy thing i have seen recently! brilliant
Did you get fines?
wow....this is great
That's a big antenna. Are you able to hear my band's Christmas concert at 7 pm CST?
Though I’m not even a particularly science-y person, I’m so glad this came across my feed! I rewatched their reply half a dozen times. So cool!
That was so cool
The best ive personally done was DX using a "peaked and tuned for Modulation swing" and power output CB and a 200 watt linear in Toledo ohio. I got a responce back from Mississippi...i was pretty in to CB and Sideband upper and lowers in the late when i was about 19 1990s, just as the CB hobby started to fizzle out sadly.... i used to come through my neighbors TVs and radios. They hated it. 😂 I had to cut it out. My home Base Antenna wasn't high enough at 60 feet. Apparently 😂 Good video though. I wouldn't have ever thought this was possible back then.
Congrats and good to know we you guys keeping hamm alive.
What is the frequency for the ISS? I read conflicting information online... 437.88 or 145.800
