Hi - I'm Sean, and I love music.
Armed with nothing but my guitars, a microphone and a record collection that has been politely described as 'getting out of hand', I talk general musical nonsense in the hope of spreading the word on sensational albums that have shaped me.
Please join me as we discover the albums that made me!

Incredible live band
Excellent album
Sick, thanks for sharing good music
Waiting for my copy
Definitely got a pink floyd/opeth feel to em, great album
Awesome channel. I’ll give some of these a listen
Thank you very much, really appreciate it - as you can no doubt tell by all the gushing in this video, I highly recommend all these albums! Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think.
I have been listening to Kanonenfieber's new album non stop 😂❤
GOTT MIT DER KAVALLERIE!
Any deftones album that impacted you? Great video aswell
@@wack8453 indeed, so many Deftones albums and songs that impacted me hugely! A particular pale equine will be taking pride of place in Season Three :) and thanks for watching and the kind comment.
Yeah🤘
👍
Great vid! ❤
listen please Realidad heart of fire
Thakn
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it. I would be careful with drawing stringent political messages from their work (although its clear they are anti war at the very least). Killing Joke were more interested in equality - rather than equity, but probably far more interested in the esoteric kabbalah. They have also always been fairly ambiguous around that and transcend the simple left and right tribal paradigm we find ourselves in today - this can be heard, for example in the anti EU song "European Super State" where KG call it "the new empire" or in Total Invasion where KG levy the same sort of criticism against the UN as Donald Trump does now...et al. Killing Joke are a typically English, nuanced, genius mammoth of a band that goes far beyond simple political platitudes imo. Other elements of KG typify the English experience in songs such as "A southern sky". It would also be hard to ignore the theatrical elements of KJ too - Outside The Gate is a good example of this. Thank you.
@@WestonzoylandSpeedWatchers what a well thought out and in-depth comment - love to see it. There is a unique 'englishness' to Killing Joke that as a Scotsman I'll likely never connect with - but their music certainly speaks to me on a bone-deep human level. Thanks for watching, and commenting! Have a great day!
@@TheAlbumsThatMadeMe Thanks mate that is very kind of you to say. Yes I think you are right about the bone deep level. I think KG have a lot to say about the erosion of English culture too (and beyond) and this can be seen in the video of "European Super State" , but in a similar way to say XTC; they also tend to focus on what unites us as working class. There are aspects of KG that will resonate with everyone of course - primarily (I believe) the anger that is carefully filtered into their songs and that present as well thought out (and somewhat esoteric in terms of its accessibility) argument that resonates with us all. They are truly a unique and underrated band, and perhaps that is what they want in a way... It makes them mysterious and somewhat romantic. It's great that they have been a big part of your life mate, us English and Scots aren't so dissimilar really and I think that is also a point they elegantly make. Cheers
the GOAT. no competition. all of music history had been leading to this moment in 2001, we just didn't know it. (all seriousness, this is a lovely a well put together gushing, similar to a lotta my feelings for the album and it's my favourite thing ever made by a human)
@@gothic_baby_doll all of the universe's billions of years of stellar development was simply the prelude to Origin of Symmetry! :D
What's your favourite Muse album and why?
Hi Sean, just discovered your channel so liked and subbed. I’m not sure we share the same taste in music, most of my videos are about classic rock/indie/psych. However, always happy to support a fellow Scot 🏴 There doesn’t seem to be too many of us in the vc. My heaviest records are probably Sabbath or some King Gizz. Though I do have one Cattle Decapitation record: Death Atlas. Keep on spinning, Jack
@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf Sabbath and The Gizz Wiz are always good by me! And Cattle Decap can always be relied on for a good time! Maybe give Anciients or Boris a go - may find something you like there too!
Been a huge fan of Manuel's creative songwriting approach. The heavier tracks on the album, particularly Clawing Out are some of the most genuinely brutal songs he's written.
Absolutely, every release has been so experimental but never at the cost of great, memorable song writing
Z&A is so good!
LOVE Zeal and Ardor!!!
@@ameliabrittain3689 one of the best modern metal bands out there!
Кайф
I love this song 🤘🏼
@@Rockstxrz632 it's a helluva opener! That chorus is haunting!
And yet still a killer song 🎸
Funky
Nice song
Great video!
What album outside your usual musical tastes hit you hard? Let me know in the comments below!
Nightwish made me want to be a singer in a band after Ronnie James Dio lol
Daathmetal, love it 😂

On the contrary... Rick Rubin, in his own words, doesn't know the first thing about a mixing desk (or anything else about engineering for that matter 👀) He's always been purely a kind of holistic performance coach for recorded music.
@@ehdrootofbeard4411 that's surprising - I always assumed he did! Learn something new every day! Thanks for watching!
wow, man i love videos like this, such tasteful editing
Thank you very much, such a kind comment! I feel the editting's come a long way since the Mastodon video, so seeing this makes the work worthwhile! Thanks for watching.
Hadn't even watched the video, but the concept gets an instant sub. Very curious about how music forms people. Thank you for your perspective.
@@g0dzilla_au thank you kindly, very much my favourite kinds of stories - hence the channel :) glad to have you on board!
Great video 👍🏻
Ah my boys get a mention in this episode ❤❤❤❤
Really nice!!! I could tell that a lot of time and care went into making the video. Thank you! I enjoyed it.✨ Watching the history of melodic death metal and the focus on In Flames brought back a lot of nostalgia. A friend of mine had me listen to "Stand Ablaze" for the first time, and I remember it like it was yesterday. It gave me chills and is still my favorite song to this day. BTW, in the past couple of weeks, I've been listening to "Path of the Immortal" by Black Earth(^▽^)ヽm/
Thanks so much, love hearing other people's experiences with music! And I'll check Black Earth out, thanks for the recommendation!
Underrated album from them. But I love Soilwork so I am biased.
Absolutely, it's such a strong album - thanks for watching!
figure number five and stabbing the drama are certainly my favorite pieces of work by them, but im sure their newer stuff deserves a lot of atention too. they may change but will never disapoint
I keep meaning to give their newer stuff a go, it's just knowing where to start sometimes! Thanks for watching!
great review! came from soilworks subreddit
Welcome aboard! Good to have you!
I totally bounced off Soilwork the first time I heard them too, and never ended up getting round to trying them again. Think I'll give Figure Number 5 a listen, I like what I heard from it :)
It's a great album, hope you enjoy!
whats your take on the kings of MeloDeath?
That would all depend on who you consider the kings of Melo-Death? For me that'd be At the Gates, still untouchable to this day!
@@TheAlbumsThatMadeMe Oh yeah ATG is prob my fav band of the Big 3 Gothemburg bands but I was talking about Dark Tranquillity, since theyve never put out a single bad record
@@ForLorNVuLgaR they're an amazing band! It wouldn't be long after Arch Enemy that Dark Tranquility popped up on my radar. Naturally, their 90's output is cream of the crop (The Gallery is phenomenal) and I consider a lot of their modern output to be solid gold also (Fiction deserves it's own video, and I really enjoyed Atoma). Now feel the strong urge to go listen their whole discography now 😂
@@TheAlbumsThatMadeMe Hahaha Exactly! Even at their weakest releases (Construct) I still Love the stuff they put out, dont get me wrong I love that album lol
great video, for me Anthems really didn't land at first, I think the glossiness of the production was a bit much. It grew on me over time though, but it's never come close to Wages of Sin or Burning Bridges. I do have one criticism of the video though, you weren't anywhere NEAR harsh enough about landlords!
Wages is the perfect Arch Enemy record for me. And I will endeavour to do better in future :D thanks for watching!
😍
