😡It does Have a self-timer! It's to the lower left side of the lens mount, and also sets times for longer exposures(see manual) A better meter head is the "SB" head, which uses a Diode centering system, instead of the analog needle.

I just recently made a trip to North Carolina with my mom to visit family we haven't seen in about 18 years. My dad's uncle and his wife were a huge part of my childhood, they were basically my grandparents. But shortly before my great uncle died, they moved from California back home to NC. Now his wife has dementia and it's progressing, so my mom and I decided that a trip was way overdue. During that trip we got to look through their house and belongings to see what we wanted to bring back before my great aunt's daughter sold it. In there we found lots of photos from decades past when they were newly wed, traveling the country, visiting other sides of the family, etc. All similar to ones in this video, they remind me a lot of my family. I got to see glimpses of their youth, of my dad and aunt when they were my age, and my grandma who died before I turned 1. I got to keep my great uncle's old film cameras, his leather work bag, a cap, and some landscape paintings they inherited from my great great grandma. I got to visit his grave and see his final resting place. Seeing all that history was very cathartic, and although I was only a child when I got to spend time with my dad's side of the family, I can't help but feel connected to them as I travel through the Southwest, and live through them by carrying on their hobbies, interests, belongings etc. I grieve not knowing more about them and our time together being cut short. I hope to honor their spirits by making it apart of me. I'm glad this video came across my screen and know I'm not alone.

You got an awesome camera but it is just a light tight box so it’s the lens & you that do what it can do as you say. F2 just make the task smoother with versatility. The cds cells do ate but even so can work but slow. Again, just a tool. If on most basic Leica beside the TTL, you’re external metering anyway.

Just stumbled across this. I think the "ruined" shots actually look cool. You could very easily use them as textural elements and cuts in another project, if you were to lean into it. Or heck, send them to me, I'd love to play around with them!

Your grandparents were a huge part of my young years growing up in Angelo. I was very sad at the passing of each of them. Even now a year later, just watching this and hearing your mention of their passing was very emotional for me. I loved them both very much. You make great work of the Xpan in the city. Most people usually stick to landscapes as the easiest thing to shoot but those tight city shots were framed so well in black and white.

Similar thing happened to me, but I used the "defective" material artistically. 😉

i'm seeing this 3 years late but, i love my f2 and the way i lcame to love it is without that bulky head and the meter, by the way is totaly possible to be quick and have perfectly good exposures without a light meter its called sunny 16 rule it works all the time if you undestand what you are doing

AH HA! Its been over 13 years since I ran a roll through my Bolex and this explains the results! Had always planned on having a better income to film more but it got shelved and there it sits. I am so inspired to go dig it out of storage right now and tighten the gate.

Your videos tell a great story, are really well made and edited and not only that, you actually make good images too! You could be the most popular photography channel on here (if you'd only post some videos now and then 😉).

Mind asking how you attached the NF on the Bolex?

Thanks very much for this outstanding video! Marvelous! During the short test run with the open camera I saw that the loop formers were still closed. In older models the closing of the lid does not automaticaly open the loop formers. This gives also an effect like you got.

Many things can cause shutter ghosting like this --- loop formers not opened; loss of a loop; pull down claw not engaging properly; not properly closed pressure plate; or a misaligned shutter.

What lens are you using on your Bolex?

Re metering. Power from the battery box gets to the meter via 2 studs on the body top which connect to 2 corresponding studs in the prism. These get messy and interrupt the power. Take the prism off and clean all 4 studs with a mild cleaner like spectacle cleaner or ladies make-up cleaner using a Q-Tip.
