Simple Footwork You Need to Be a Great Shooter

Any tips on speed drills that could help me run the floor better?
I love good old school basketball
great drill, thx!🔥
I’ve had a front row season ticket with the Utah Jazz since the Jazz moved here from NOLA in 1980. Watching Gonzaga’s John Stockton and the Mailman Karl Malone was sheer perfection.
Triangle offense is the only thing that beats the pick and roll
Pure PGs, with a focus on half court sets, WITH the same big man for 18 seasons to perfect their play will never happen again. After almost two decades of mastering their legendary pick & roll, they could damn near read each other's minds, to rack up points/assists with ease. If not for the GOAT and the best team ever, with Pippen and Rodman playing ridiculously effective interior team D, and Jordan locking down the perimeter and doing his GOAT sh*t on offense, cockblocking the Jazz from rings in '97 and 98, we'd be talking about late '90s Stockton/Malone as the #1 duo of all time.
why is it called pick and roll?
You pick the defender off with the screen and roll to the basket
The PnR has been so refined and adapted for the modern game that watching teams get absolutely fried by such a basic action 30 years ago is crazy. No disrespect intended, they were the pioneers
Facts like why do they keep doubling the ball handler ?
The kick by Malone, always cheap
Is there any way I can turn off the video and just listen to your voice?

Hey coach do you have a vid on the STEP OVER SEAL
No, but I like that suggestion. I am going to do some more research on what that looks like. In the meantime, I think Jay Wright has done a video on it.
This is great, I just shared with my son.
And why the high release? To slow down the ball. The distance the ball travels is determined almost entirely by initial velocity and release angle, so the closer you are to the basket, the slower the initial velocity must be so that the ball does not sail over the backboard, which is one of the reasons you have a lot more blocks closer to the rim. If you bring the ball from your waist you only have three main alternatives: - accelerate the ball through your shot and overshoot. - slow your motion through your entire shot slot, in which case it can get stolen or blocked - extend over your head as quickly as possible, and then release the appropriate slow velocity shot. This is one of the most poorly understood aspects of basketball.
Thank you, great explanation! Appreciate you.
Yeah, that's a travel if you don't release the ball before lifting the pivot foot. Surprised you explained it on second movement and ignored on the first. Edit: Otherwise solid drill.
Thanks! Yeah, I should have explained it on the first move.
This is not only for point guards. Every basketball player should learn this.
Sorry but is that even a jab? There much better saucer hoppers do a better job than this. No disrespect just a positive criticism. Peace.
I appreciate the feedback, if you look up the way Jay Wright has his players do the jab it is very similar to this. I did my best to emulate what i saw him teach.
Nice and simple. No complications. Also there is no cast In stone rule to making moves, variations are allowed
Perhaps trainer like DJ sackman, drew hanlen, M.lancaster might show how is it done convincingly infront of camera:-)

Simple, i Like IT. But is IT No travel ?
I have a game tomorrow so i'm hoping i do well by watching this

Excellent video thanks
John Stockton is a top 10 NBA point guard all time. Karl Malone is a top 5 NBA power forward. Thats how good these guys are.
Top 10 pt guard? Lol he's top 5 easily and probably the most pure pt guard ever.
@@andresrojas7924 Don't get your panties into a bunch.....I agree Stockton is a top 5 but people its up for debate. My top 5 in order are: 1. Magic 2. Steph Curry 3. Isiah Thomas 4. Oscar Robertson 5. John Stockton
@@mr.cookie7308it depends on how you rank them: Pure PG: 1. Magic 2. Stockton(maybe even #1) Best player playing pg: 1. Magic 2. Poassibly Oscar or even Isiah. Best PG/scorer/shooter: 1. Curry hands down. We can all agree it’s Magic, the then the rest with whichever criteria you’re using. Stockton best pure pg though.
Nowadays because teams can play zone, it's harder for them to play pick and roll...
But its much easier to get an assist now beacuse of pacing and fastbreak opportunities.. not to mention the 3pt era where 4 players are in the outisde of 3pt line so you can just drive and dish it like Cp3 or Doncic likes to do in todays era
The zone defence has always existed.
Pick and Roll is deadly with versatile small and big.
Legendary play and still my favorite players and team of all time. Sad they never did get a championship.
🔥🔥🔥
What do you know about basketball nerd
Who tf are u nerd?
I often use it when play basketball
Sadly they never won champion... Acctually i think pick n roll is one of the best tactics...
Pick and roll is a fundamental attack tactics. If it's the best one i don't know but it's one of the first invented for sure or it would not be fundamental. Altough there are different and more articulate offensive scheme that employ more than 2 players. One of the most innovative attack scheme that time was one the Bulls implemented in their game and this was the Triangle offensive. The bulls won 6 play-offs titles. This was the same era of the Jazz. In fact they most of the time have lost in the finals against the bulls. In my opinion there should be something better for sure than the pick and roll. Let's just say that it is classic and orthodox offensive scheme.
It sucks that they never won a championship
Not winning a championship doesn't diminish what Malone/Stockton were able to accomplish in their careers. They're still hall of fame players and were fun to watch. Malone is the 3rd all time leading scorer and Stockton is 1st all time leader in assists.
@@zerimar26 Doesn't change the fact it sucks they never won one.
@@zerimar26 and steals…. Dude was unreal
Well.. It's just that they were not the better team. They were strong of course but there were players better than them, that's it.
The Stockton/Malone Pick and Roll worked because of John Stockton.
75%
I actually have a season ticket for the Jazz. Karl was massively strong! Led in scoring in NBA every season. You needed BOTH a great assist guard and power forward! I was there…you weren’t.
@@nuschlerclark895 who gives a shit? I live a mile from John Stockton.
Damn. This is some good shit. Great insight. How the hell did you get to this level?
Nice! It would be interesting to see how that pick and roll they ran would work vs 1-4 switch commonly employed these days
I appreciate the feedback. I'll get on it right away!
1-5 is common these days right?
Turn on an NBA game; the pick and roll is about the only "offense" teams have now. Harden, Paul, Doncic... etc.
2 things changed everything on todays game: The rule change of ilegal defense, allows the defensive team to be "closer" to the guys doing the pick and roll. In the 90s there was an imaginary line that either forced teams to double team or move the defenders away. The second is how all the switch are happening today, which has created the opportunity for the offense to also bring more shooters and open up the space.
@@mave007funk yeah, I was gon say because of all of the switching on defenses today that I don't think the pick n roll would work that effectively in today's game. People like Steph Curry have made today's defenses acutely aware of screens, so, imo it would be really hard to run a pick n roll in today's game. That doesn't mean that it can't be done because you can still catch some defensive guys off guard that will have their "brain in the fog" for an instant with a simple pick n roll where you give it to the guy that sets the pick once he breaks free and "rolls to the goal".
Super great. You should coach if you don’t already.
Good stuff, you should analyze players like D-wade and rondo.
You really know your stuff! Thanks for sharing! I like how he walks or jogs to avoid offensive fouls.

If temple wins does your bracket change? What kind of changes would you make?
If Temple wins then I like Maryland beat Temple, and then beat LSU. Maryland matches up really well with LSU especially down low.
