I enjoy gardening 🌱 and travelling ✈️ when I get time away from my busy work schedule 👩🏽💻.
I live in beautiful Vancouver part-time as well as the Fraser Valley and go between the two 🇨🇦.
I garden in the fertile lands of the Fraser Valley, in the Pacific Northwest 🌧️, where I grew up, in zone 8b.
I found documenting the progress in the garden is helpful and is great for remembering what plants you put where! 😄
I’m just an amateur who enjoys the peace and beauty in the garden.

I went away a few days and found my garden destroyed when I got back! 😥
During the third week of October, I was away a few days and returned to find that many of my plants had been dig up and flung aside or were buried under piles of dirt.
This included my Generous Gardener David Austin rose, many hostas, pulmonaria, a boxwood, willows, a rhododendron, astilbe, anemones, ferns, ajuga, heucheras, and a dogwood amongst others.
My neighbour had brought in a landscaper to replace the old failing retaining wall that was made of landscape ties and which was more than 20 years old.
There was a miscommunication to put it in the best possible terms, and he didn’t let me know or give me time to dig out my plants. I was apoplectic!
It took me this long to process and get past the anger 😄. This video shows some of the destruction and reveals the new, concrete block wall. The current reveal was filmed in December 18, 2024 on a mild, sunny day.
I’m looking forward to adding plants back in next season to rehab that garden.

October Garden Tour 🍂

It’s almost mid-October so I did a tour of the garden. I added the front yard onto this tour so it is a little long, but I know it will be great to look back on. There were a lot of changes to the garden this year! #smallyoutuber #backyardgardentour #backyardgarden #garden #flowers #budgetgardening #pnwgardening #zone8b

Adding Two Parterre-Style Garden Beds with Lilacs on Standard & Splitting & Transplanting Coneflower

In this video, I add edging around my circle garden along with two new parterre style garden beds. I needed a good place for my two lilacs on standard and finally got them planted after holding on to them for more than a year. I also split my wildberry coneflowers and transplanted those. I can’t wait to see how these turn out in Spring! #garden #backyardgarden #budgetgardening #flowers #smallyo...
Black + Decker LE750 Corded Edger/Trencher Informal Review 👍

I bought this electric edger as an open box sale on a bit of a whim to help with the difficult edging along sidewalks, driveways and along garden beds. I didn’t realize I also had to purchase a special extension cord as well! 🤦🏻♀️ Anyway, I gave it a try and found it’s lightweight and easy to use. A bit annoying to store, but overall it gets a 👍 and I’m glad to have this tool. #garden #smallyo...
Adding Edging, Hakonechloa All Gold, Honorine Joubert Anemone, Double Pecan Echinacea & Alnwick Rose
Переглядів 2863 місяці тому
This project took a long time to get started and get wrapped up. Honestly, I had been avoiding it because I knew it would be tough. I had planned to install edging at the back of this flower bed to prevent washouts. I found a pre-rusted metal edging that fit the bill. After a few hiccups, I got that in and then weeded and added my amendments. I was able to add in some Honorine Joubert anemones ...

The second is a Visions in Pink astilbe to go across from the one I already planted in my narrow garden bed in a previous video. I saved the best for last! I got a bonus plant 🙂. Replacing a Spirea & Some Boxwoods 🪴
Переглядів 1693 місяці тому
It’s a great time of year to shuffle plants around! We are getting some rain mixed in with some dry days with part sun so it’s a nice time to be in the garden 🙂. I gave away a spirea that was getting too large for its location and replaced it with a lilac on standard, clematis and two Munstead lavender. I also finally got around to pulling the dead boxwood that have been in their containers all...

This little strip has always been a problem area. It floods in fall/winter and dries out in summer. I had tried Carex in it for years without luck, basically replanting Carex like it was an annual. I looked at it all summer and finally decided to try and fix it. I added two Shrimp on the Barbie lungwort/Pulmonaria and put a Visions in Pink astilbe in the centre. (Pink theme!) I had a Japanese Andromeda (Pieris) removed to make room for a plant I’ve wanted for a long time - a Daphne! This variety is called Perfume Princess and it blooms mid-winter to spring. I also transplanted a Carex and added a clearance anemone to my front garden bed. Zone 8B. #flowers #backyardgarden #garden #smallyoutuber

I added some plants to a neglected and challenging corner of the garden in zone 8b. An evergreen Rising Star Yew, Kitten Around Nepeta, Sparkle White Gaura, white Yarrow and Onyx & Pearls Penstemon were added under a partiallydhafed area under a plum tree. I ran out of steam but the next day was overcast so I was able to get it mulched. Looks so much better 😀! #garden #flowers #smallyoutuber #s...
Giving Lavender a Severe Haircut & Staking a Few Plants 🪴 💜

The last day of August was a hot one! But I was excited to get out in the garden and work in a shaded area. I gave some lavender a very severe cutback and staked a few plants that had been nailed by a windstorm. I cleaned up a garden bed and top dressed it with compost to prepare it for fall. Awesome! I just subbed to you as well 🤗. Love seeing other gardens!
I would be heart broken. Sorry you had to have your plants destroyed. Way to be optimistic. The new wall really does look nice. New beginnings Beloved and Happy gardening.
Thank you, I'm trying to look on the bright side 🙂
This is heartbreaking. I would have thought that access for work commissioned by your neighbor would need to be accessed through their own property. I appreciate your good attitude about the whole experience. New subbie 💕
Thank you! I’m trying to stay positive 🙂.
Hard to control contractors sometimes and I'm sure your neighbour was not happy about this disruption.
I don’t think anyone was happy!
I hope all the plants thrive.
Thanks! I hope so too.
I am hyperventilating for you! If I came home to this... I would not be happy. I hope the neighbor gave you a $$$ budget to replace your plants. I don't think people realize how much time and effort goes into growing and nurturing plants. OK, I hope you give us a spring update.
I will assess in spring and see what comes back. No $ yet until we can determine what was lost 😞.
Shocking that a company would do such destruction.
@@mitzi605 I agree!
It is shocking that they had to come onto your property to do this and STILL did so much destruction. I wonder if the neighbor kept assuring the contractor that you were fine with it and that you "talked". Isn't the contractor worried about you posting the mess on FB so others see their work? I would never hire a company that left the worksite so tore up. Never.
So is there a fence going on top of the concrete cap or do you have to look into their yard forever and vice versa? If I came home to that my inner banshee would have come out and it would not have been pretty.
@@margofelice a fence will be going up when the weather improves. I was livid! My inner banshee definitely came out 😂. This happened in October and it took me this long (December) to calm down.
They destroy your side worse than them and should know a heavy machine would destroy the wet grass and should pull down some board & wood.
You would think!
You are being too nice.
I’m trying my best to stay positive!
Oh, I have no words! I’m so sorry this happened. You are WAY more understanding than I would have been. If that were my neighbor I would have him and his contractor repairing everything back to how it was- out of their pockets. That was personal property they destroyed. I’m in the States, so I’m not sure what laws you have in Canada, but man, I would not have paid anything after what they did to you. 😢
Yes, it’s tough because trying to maintain a civil relationship but will see about any lost plants in spring.
Wow friend! So sorry that happened to your garden. So disrespectful and disappointing your neighbours didn’t consider your property during this project. Hopefully you will have a beautiful spring to welcome back your garden ☺️
Thank you! So looking forward to springtime for the revamp 🙂.

Beautiful garden, awesome colors. 👍😊💚
GREAT place for the yarrow--they are indestructible! And there are so many colors too. And funny--I have that same bird bath--love it!
It’s a great choice for a tough spot!
Love my lungwort--it gets HUGE under the shade of a tree--2 feet across and so lovely as you say in the spring!
I can’t wait for mine to get that large 🙂.
What a great idea--I can't believe I haven't bought that yet! Grest suggestion!
Hoping I have enough drainage for them. It’s been a very wet fall. 🌧️
Yes, LOVE bleeding heart! Thanks for reminding me --I only have one and I need more! BTW--how did your Canterbury Bells do that you planted winter sowing?
I just finally transplanted them out! I had no space this season but hoping for blooms next year 🤞.
In PNW also, in Oregon. I also did Canterbury Bells but in seed trays in September. They are coming along and I have them in a gallon can in a clear tote that has all the holes in it--kind of a green house effect also. Can fit 6 gallon cans in it. Whats nice is these should be ready for the garden in March and flowering by May! Fall planting these "cool flowers" is explained SO well in Lisa Mason Zieglers' "Cool Flowers" book--WELL worth the buy. Like you, though, I also have milk jugs ready for winter sowing in December. So fun to try them all and see what works best!
That sounds like a great plan! I’m excited to hear how they do for you! 🙂
Very nice..you have a lot of knowledge. Your garden is very beautiful, with different flowers the garden looks very beautiful.I am a news channel journalist in India. I have my own news channel. I can show you my news channel
Please remove that orange tag as your plant's trunk base get larger the tag will become ingrained in the bark and cause it to girth and strangle it. Also, sometimes with shurbs the frist year or two after planting it takes a year or two to develop a good strong rooting system. When I frsit planted my Rose Sharons they took two years to bloom perfousely. I live in Georgia in zone 8a or 8b depending on the temperatures during the winter. My hibiscus are going into their dormancy. They bloom here midsummer till early September depending on the overnight temperatures.

Is the edging not sharp? Like if ever u accidentally trip over it?
Hi! it’s only sharp at the ends if you cut it, but you can fold it back over. The top isn’t sharp but of course with enough force, anything could do damage. I checked the Amazon reviews and couldn’t find any complaints about the top being sharp or dangerous if that helps 😊.
