I'm sorry I missed uploading a garden tour last month! To be honest not much has changed over the summer - everything has just gotten taller and is now starting to transition to fall mode.
Thanks for watching!

It has been hot this month, and the garden is just about in full bloom. I've had lots of flowers and veggies, but also some weather and squirrel issues to contend with. Thanks for watching! PS The flower at 6:53 is stock, not phlox.

This month I enjoyed pottering around in the garden and found myself swimming (/drowning) in sweet peas. Lots of other flowers are starting to pop up, the veg garden is fully planted, and it's starting to feel like summer! 0:00 Intro 2:07 Flower Garden 7:30 Vegetable Garden Thanks for watching!

I have officially been working on restoring the garden for a year now! This month I finished planting out my main flower border, as well as most of my veg garden. I'm trying to grow mini pumpkins over the archway in the veg garden, with inspiration from @emmasallotmentdiaries. Check out her excellent video here: ua-cam.com/video/BOaCkQYhI7M/v-deo.html Thanks for watching!

It's a relatively quick (and fairly chaotic) garden tour this month! I had an extremely busy month, but also got a few things done in the garden. Thanks for watching!
February 2024 Garden Tour | Vegetable Garden Adventures

It gets worse before it gets better, right? This month I had some (mis)adventures building my new vegetable garden, while my husband dug up our perimeter drains by hand. It's a huge mess out there right now, but things are slowly starting to come together. I started a bunch of seeds recently, and followed this excellent advice from @eliandkate on how to sterilize seed starting mix: ua-cam.com/v...

January has been an interesting month, with lots of winter weather, some garden clearing, and a bit of mysterious broken glass. It's looking pretty bare at the moment, but spring is just around the corner. Thanks for watching!

Well I didn't get all that much gardening done this month, but I did do a bit of Christmas decorating! Things are looking pretty bare and muddy at the moment, but there are also a few signs of early flowers to come in January. Thanks for watching, and happy holidays!

There has been a lot of change over the last month! In this episode I dismantle a broken old shack (aka "The Cabana"), reckon with a rotting hawthorn tree, and clear an overgrown corner for my future greenhouse. Next month I will try to hold my phone steady while walking around. (Sorry about that!) Thanks for watching.

I've just moved to a new house, and the garden is huge mess! This is a (very) rough first tour - apologies if it's hard on the eyes in places. I'm planning to do a monthly tour video, to be able to look back on my progress. (Hopefully my videography skills improve along with the garden!)

It's the end of month two in the new garden, and I've made a bit of progress on the clean-up! This is no less awkward than last month's tour, and I was definitely caught talking to myself by the gentleman who just moved in next door. Featuring blackberry removal and the construction of a janky archway. Thanks for watching!

I managed to clear a bit of surface area this month, but have found my plans for the future layout changing as I get to know the garden better. This is a fairly chaotic tour, complete with the sounds of the neighbourhood. Thanks for watching!
Please film October, love your videos.
I'm so glad to hear you enjoy them! Will be doing a November tour for sure. Thanks for watching!
I ALWAYS look forward to your videos!! Your flowers are absolutely stunning and the greenhouse looks amazing!!! Yall have worked so hard and accomplished so much, and I love seeing all the wonderful things yall find in the garden. Those bricks you uncovered would be priceless here where I live. Keep up the great work and hope to see you at the end of October!
Thank you so much - that's really nice to hear! Sometimes all I can see is the work still to be done. I will be working on a November tour this weekend, although unfortunately there aren't many updates. :) Thank you for the encouragement!
Thank you for sharing your garden adventures with us!! It's amazing what our gardens give us!
Yes, always a joy to see progress in the garden. It has been a great growing season. Thank you so much for watching!
I got one apple from my 3 year old tree but someone else got it before me 😅. Love your videos 💚💚💚
Oh no! Hopefully there will be many more apples in your future. My single apple isn't looking too hot, no wonder the squirrels have left it for me. Glad you enjoy the videos - thank you for watching!
Love it , always a joy to see you get on in your back garden, those cosmos have been a real powerhouse! The last bit though, that coffee delivery, so cute! 😂😂 ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, the cosmos have just kept going and going! They sure are great for taking up space while I amass perennials. Thanks for watching!
I love that you put out a squirrel watering bowl 😂 and the humour over the harvest yields 😂, honestly so relatable !!!!! it's all looking fabulous 🙌 love it x
Love your dog, love the squirrels and love your garden!!!!
Another fabulous video. WOW, your garden is looking amazing. All that work has produced a paradise of flowers! Absolutely glorious! Vegetable garden also great! Love the little pumpkins! Classic choice of music for the squirrel pirate antics!😂
Muy buen video el de hoy 🎉
Great video! You have inspired me to document my garden.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would absolutely recommend documenting your garden! It's so neat to look back and see the changes as the seasons progress.
I love your over-planting. Looks gorgeous. I love sweet peas too! How lovely to give them away! I like the colours! I’d never get sick of the smell of them. Love your obelisks and wall of sweet peas! What, now a rat problem! You have the patience of a saint! Your garden is incredibly beautiful- what it was to what it has become is so fabulous! Congratulations on your lovely back yard! ( We are in a bleak rainy winter plus quite cold this year!) Absolutely nothing happening in my garden at the moment!
Thank you so much! Yes it's been fun giving away the sweet peas. All the neighbours have had at least one bunch, and I've put a few more out on the road as well. It's been hot this weekend so I think they're finished for now. Sorry to hear its been a rough winter for you - but hopefully not too long before your first bulbs start popping up!
My kind of garden 💗
Even under construction, it’s beautiful! It made me subscribe! Looking forward to July tour. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for watching - and welcome!
Beautiful looking garden, its a pollinators dream.
Thank you so much! It's been fun finding plants that the pollinators love as much as I do - though I'm afraid the bees will be disappointed when the lupines are finished!
you are totally cool! I live in a sub division in Idaho and your plants are a lot like mine!
Aww thank you! :) I love seeing familiar plants in different places. I hope you're having a good growing season!
What a gorgeous space!!! You guys have done so much it’s looking amazing!! So you have to question WHY you are having a rat problem? Do you have a neighbor that has too much trash on their property attracting them? We have a neighbor that are just pigs they don’t seem to know what trash cans are for! Had to report them to the borough office because they were attracting mice and I feared rats next!! Rodents show up because there’s food somewhere not the garden but trash food! Then they’ll start exploring into other gardens looking for more food and they found your space!!!
Thank you so much! Oh, the rats... The whole city has a major rat problem, and I think ours just left temporarily while I was initially clearing out the weeds and garbage we inherited here. Now I've probably given them back too many hiding places! Sorry to hear about your neighbour situation - that sounds like a nuisance!
Esta muy bien decorado
¡Muchas gracias!
Beautiful!!!! You've done such an amazing job!!!
Thank you so much!
I found you today and started watching all the videos from the beginning. You have done a fabulous job!! I was puttering in my garden and when I took a break I would watch one video...Watching has been my reward for working hard in my garden. Thank you for sharing your process with us!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Your comment motivated me to get back outside and keep weeding after lunch today. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Thanks for watching!
❤❤video interaction is great ❤❤❤❤
What you've achieved in your first year is inspiring, your garden is beautiful 😊
Thank you so much!
Beautiful garden and a lovely video. I can't wait for your June video x
It's amazing, congratulations on your first year in your garden.
Thank you so much!
It’s looking lovely. Sooo much work you have done, but very rewarding! Love the stepping stones and the bar top for neighbours drinks! I see squirrel hopping along your fence still haha Happy one year garden anniversary 🌸🌸🌸
Thank you! The year has flown by, but when I look back at some earlier photos I barely recognize the place. I think that the original bully squirrel has moved on, because there seem to be a few smaller ones here now in his place. Still lots of digging, but nowhere near as much destruction. Thanks for watching!
Looks just magical !!! ✨
Aww thank you! It's starting to feel more like home now. Thanks for watching!
Oh the tulips are beautiful! What a fabulous display by the greenhouse. Good job! I like the orange fluffy tulips too! And the hummingbird at the end was a very nice surprise. I expect you’ll see the squirrel back now that you mentioned he hasn’t been around much😂Shame about the caterpillars, but hopefully a lot of those plants will bounce back into life. I thoroughly enjoyed your garden tour!
Thank you so much! Yes, the squirrel was already back today, apparently. (Definitely should've kept my observations to myself!) The caterpillars too have been a nuisance, but it sounds like it's actually quite a problem here and so there are treatment options available locally. Fingers crossed I can at least slow them down a bit!
❤❤❤ a new subbie 'your gadern is a show stopper
That's so kind - thank you!
The garden is beautiful despite the caterpillars.
Thank you! (It would be so nice if the caterpillars would just eat the bindweed, though.)
Spring time, it’s my favourite. Your garden is full of lots of changes. Wonderful!
It's my favourite, too! Thank you so much! It's still very much a work-in-progress, but I'm glad to see things moving along. Thank you for watching, and happy spring!
You have made huge progress this past month! I hope your upcoming vacation is relaxing.
Thanks so much! I'm afraid April won't have been quite so productive - but the vacation was great. Thanks for watching!
Another thoroughly enjoyable garden tour! Lovely to see the daffodils, and I love those apricot coloured tulips. Love the flamingo garden too. I’m looking forward to seeing the tulips outside the greenhouse flower. I love the way things suddenly come to life as the days warm up. Happy Easter!
Yes it's really starting to come alive now! Even more so now, after our week away. The greenhouse tulips are starting to show some colour, and I'm hoping they'll be in good shape for this month's tour. (Fingers crossed nobody eats them in the meantime!) Hope you enjoyed the Easter holiday!
Wow, you have got alot done ! That fence is perfect 💙 The outer flower boarder of the new fence, really gives a glimpse into your vision ,with the trellis and topiary , it is going to be stunning 🤩 Happy Easter to you and your family and thank you for sharing 💐
Thanks so much, Holly! Yes, it's been pretty neat to see the ideas in my head starting to take shape - while it still feels like there's a long way to go. Thank you for watching, and happy Easter!
WOW! I can't believe how calm you are with all that going on. I'd be so stressed :D Hoping we can help you get your seed starting off like a rocket !!!!!!! I have no idea how you've been doing things so feel free to completely ignore me - but some of the seeds you were mentioning (especially the really small ones like foxgloves and snap dragon) will germinate better if you don't cover them, leave them on the soil surface to get all the light they can. That might help.
Why, thank you! I may look calm, but the two to three grey hairs I had when we started this project have definitely called their friends. :) Yes, the soil microwaving has worked brilliantly! By comparison, the compost that didn't get microwaved is sprouting some bugs and other things. I did surface-sow the snapdragons, etc., but come to think of it I may have been heavy-handed with the vermiculite, and/or trying to fit too many things under too few lights. Thanks so much for watching!
There are non so resilient as we gardeners 😂 and yes, we do it for fun. Have you tried putting food out for your resident squirrel? I imagine you've probably tried most things. It's been so wet here, too. It's very difficult to do anything at all out there, but we always get there in the end. Your garden is going to be stunning, keep going 😊
I've definitely considered putting out food for him - I'm just a bit worried he might call his friends. (Although come to think of it, he probably doesn't have any because he is quite territorial!) I might see if he settles down a bit as the weather improves and there's more for him to eat elsewhere, but keeping this in mind as a plan B. Thank you for the encouragement!
I wish i could upload a photo but in my veg garden i also did what you did, we put in “raised beds” they’re more to keep soil contained and so i can attach netting. I use the netting to keep squirrels out! They are my nemesis lol, also to keep neighborhood cats out and i get invasive bugs so the netting stays up all growing season. I prefer not to do that but it’s too much work and money that goes into planting vegetables to have animals dig up my stuff, or use it as a litter box or to have bugs decimate my stuff
I think the netting sounds like a really good idea. Glad to know it's also effective for your squirrels, in addition to the cats and bugs. (Which I also have plenty of!)
Oh wow, I nearly cried over your flower munching squirrel! And especially tulips! What can you do! Like you say, the squirrel was there first. And such a handsome bushy tail. No wonder Beatrix Potter wrote Squirrel Nutkin who was so cheeky his tail got wopped off 😂Then I felt the pain of your thumb! Ouch indeed! But spring is in the air and 4 weeks will make all the difference! Next month will see huge changes I know! Loved your video. Does your gorgeous dog chase the squirrel?
Oh, he is totally Nutkin! And the bushy tail is 100% how we tell him apart from the other local squirrels. (That, and he's about 30% bigger than all the others. We joke that he has a rack of dumbbells hidden out in the garden somewhere.) Thank you so much for watching - and for the encouragement, as always!
Tough month, but just look at how far you have come already! Really enjoying your videos, keep up the hard work it will be worth it in the end.😊
Thank you so much! Sometimes it's hard for me to see the progress, and I really appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching!
We have squirrels, they drive me nuts digging everywhere!! But they’ve NEVER eaten my flowers. I have crocuses in bloom and they don’t go near them. I have tulips and they don’t bother them. They will dig up my bulbs not to eat them but because they dig everywhere!!! I can’t believe you’ve seen them eat your flowers! Ugh our neighbors on one side had a trampoline. Their property is twice the size of ours and yet they put that stupid trampoline right against the fence so they could see right over the fence. So annoying! But they damaged it so it’s gone and they’re all gone now! Yay lol Your space is beautiful even with the dug up section
This particular squirrel (who I think is on steroids) is the only one I've ever seen eating plants. The ones at our old place were way less destructive! Sorry to hear you're also dealing with the digging issue. (But that's great you're no longer looking at a trampoline! I think I'm in it for the long haul with this one, and it sure gets a lot of use.) Thank you for watching!
😂" its fine " ... has become my gardening mantra also . I think your garden boxes are perfect ! (Sorry you got hurt ) So exciting to see things bloom 💙 thank you for another fun video !!!
Thank you so much, Holly! Yes, very exciting to see some things starting to bloom. I'm looking forward to putting the garden beds to use. (And thankfully I'm on the mend!)
Hey! Loving your journey just watched yours vids and was wondering if you’re in Vic- so am I. In a condo but have an allotment plot at CCAA - biggest site in Vic and my plot is pretty big too. Inherited a lovely eating apple ( once I sprayed for tent caterpillars which decimated it two years in a row.) I tried to over winter some kale but the wildlife moves in - like the geese - so I’ve just got some purple sprouting broccoli that I tried to protect from the critters and the tops are getting chomped and the freeze got them a bit but I think they’ll survive. Planted a fig too that was a prezzie from a plot neighbour. Love your greenhouse it looks fab. You’ve done So much work! Your taxonomy knowledge is impressive. I think your house Reno would be interesting to see too but filming even as much as you are must be a lot of work. Thanks for having us along☺️ Jenny
Thank you so much for watching Jenny, and for your kind words! CCAA looks really nice, and your plot sounds lovely, too. I never would have imagined dealing with geese as a garden pest, but that makes sense with being so near the nature sanctuary! Yes, the reno has been interesting for sure. At some point I'll try to share a few 'before' and 'after' photos. (I would have loved to trying filming it, but unfortunately most of the progress on the house happens while I'm at work.) Cheers!
Cool video! Loved the snow photos. Everything is looking good. I appreciate the amount of work you have done. Funny about the beer bottles! Snow drops are so lovely in spring. I had three bulbs last year so are hoping for more this year! The greenhouse is a haven in the winter and you must be very glad to have it.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! Sometimes it feels like the progress is really slow, but I'm hopeful that my vision for it will start coming together this spring. I have found snowdrops really slow to get established from fall-planted bulbs, and have had much better results dividing them from existing clumps in spring. Yes, enjoying the greenhouse so much! I feel very lucky to have it.
It’s 11 February and I have just found this lovely video! Thoroughly enjoyed it! Love your wreath ! It looks adorable on your greenhouse.
Aww thanks so much for watching! I'm always glad to see you in the comments. And thank you - I was happy with how it turned out, especially after leaving all the evergreens behind in our old garden.
My light , like that , doesn't have that many color options but my peppers do great on the bright clear setting (they do also recieve some natural light ) Your back garden holds so much possibility and promise 💙 I am so excited to see it come together ! Many blessings 💙
Thanks for letting me know about your pepper lighting. I've got exactly the same settings (clear artificial light, with some bonus window light) and will stick with it. And thank you for the encouragement! I'm glad to have you here for the garden reno journey.
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas ! 🎄 Can not begin to say how much I enjoy watching your garden journey ! Thank you for sharing 💚
That's so kind of you - I really appreciate the encouragement! Thank you for watching, and Merry Christmas to you, too!
beautifully done, my friend!
I'll be honest I've stored mine unchipped just in a drawer. Like the whole drawer is full. I started out with six individual dahlias. Now, after 2 years, I have like almost 36. Dahlias are easy peasy as long as you get them out the ground pre frost. Also I collect the entire heads off my cosmos, zinnias and marigolds. Then in the spring I plant the entire heads. I find they grow bigger and better that way. I also store them in a drawer. Just in an envelope.
Too funny - dahlias in a drawer sounds like something I would do! I did also pull a few whole seed heads off the seashell cosmos before composting the rest of the plant. I will definitely trying planting a few of them whole in the spring. Thanks for watching!
I would love to have a greenhouse like you have. On my dream wish list. Maybe someday! Why doesn't anyone give me free pots? Although a lady did give us cattle nutrition containers that were used up and after washing them and drilling holes in the bottom they make great containers. Good luck with your greenhouse [it is so beautiful], and happy holidays!
Thank you so much! Cattle feed containers sound like they will make great planters. Happy holidays to you, too!
Beautiful. What was the size of your greenhouse. Thank you
Thank you! The interior floor space is 6'x10'. The highest part of the ceiling is about 10', which makes it feel a bit bigger.
Love the greenhouse, and everything about this was just delightful!
Gorgeous garden and greenhouse. Halloween is a holiday….the origin of the word is Holy day and All Hallow’s eve is indeed a holiday !
