It's a matter of choosing the appropriate tool for the situation. I still keep a higher end bridge camera around for those times when I want better performance than my smart phone but don't want to deal with the much heavier DSLR and multiple lenses. Particularly in crowded situations where theft or damage is a concern, I'd much rather replace my bridge camera than a professional grade DSLR body and lens.

Everyone's missing the point, people are too focused on the medium. It's the photographer behind the medium that's important. Does anyone care what brush Picasso used! 🤪

It was just over £1600 brand new body only. I bought mine at the Photography Show at the NEC and felt slightly sick because it was a lot of money to drop on a camera back then. I’ve still got it, I can’t bring myself to sell it and it’s still going strong.

I bought a 35mm yesterday (used because new is unaffordable) and blanked to check if it was DX or ED (I shoot a Nikon D3x) and when I received it my heart sank that I bought the wrong thing but this gives me a calmness I didn’t screw up 😊

The smaller the censor the smaller the lens 600mm on a small censor vs 600mm on a full frame camera will be a hell of a lot bigger

Bridge cameras are good but they absolutely NEED a high amount of light to get the sharpest images out of them. If its dark at all or you are in the shade you HAVE to use flash, you might even need a slave speedlite on top of your onboard flash to help it out. If its dark dark outside, you need to have a flash light on your subject so the autofocus can pick it up, then you can shoot with the flash on top of that. i have my pro gear as wel but its fun using a bridge camera with its limits, just a fun way to challenge yourself. I have a handful that cost less than $20 each, cant beat that for some toys :D. They are great beginner cameras to learn the basics as well, for $20 they are a great learning tool

You cannot compare the Nikon d700 with any device, the colors are clearly superior, the d700 is a masterpiece of photography, there is no such device ever made. The colors are absolutely fantastic on the Nikon d700, there is no comparison with other cameras, I've tried them all, sony, panasonic, canon, Nikon d750, d810, d 850, z 6, absolutely all, the Nikon d700 has direct and real colors , there is no longer such a camera, I'm only talking about JpGs. They are all toys compared to the Nikon D700, the difference is huge!

It's funny how you're comparing everything to the D750... because YOU KNOW it's the benchmark. There's only 1 camera that's out performing the D750... and that's the backside illuminated sensor D780. It's whooping everything mentioned here. 😉👍

Hi James, I watched your video and found it very interesting. My concern is one critical point everyone explains incorrectly. There are 2 key points when discussing image sensors. These are the Optical characteristics and the Technical characteristics of every image sensor. You did a great job explaining the Optical differences and failed, like everyone else, on the Technical aspects of the image sensor. An image sensor is an electronic component with technical limitations. The size of the sensor does not change these technical limitations. For example, the sensor has an active noise component (floor) the moment the camera is switched on. Dishonest marketers decided not to tell the truth because selling more FF cameras is more important. We have the opportunity to manage the sensor's saturation and SNR. How does one do that? The daily repeated marketing phrase claiming "One sensor captures more light" is dishonest. The challenge we ALL face is how to best deal with the different reflected light intensities from the scene. All image sensors undersaturate in the shadow parts of the scene. That means a lower SNR and more visible image noise in the shadows. Your ISO simply amplifies the lower SNR in the shadow parts of the image signal. Why do all image sensors produce excellent image quality in bright light, and NOT only M43 sensors? Because the sensor saturates in good light. That means a high SNR, low visible noise, and more tonal data. Why? (think gamma & tonal data distribution) Go to my Blog for more information on what digital photographers should know... Best Siegfried
